Remnants of the Franco–Algerian Rupture Archiving Postcolonial Minorities
Free Download Mona El Khoury, "Remnants of the Franco-Algerian Rupture: Archiving Postcolonial Minorities "
English | ISBN: 1793617694 | 2020 | 316 pages | EPUB, PDF | 2 MB + 5 MB
At the end of French colonization in Algeria, four categories of people held French citizenship or had strong ties with France: European settlers, Jews, mixed-race individuals, and Harkis. The end of the War of Independence exiled most of them from Algeria, traumatized them in various ways, and transferred many to metropolitan France. Remnants of the Franco-Algerian Rupture: Archiving Postcolonial Minorities examines the legacies of these transnational identities through narratives that dissent from official histories, both in France and Algeria. This literature takes particular stories of exile and loss and constructs a memory around a Mosaic father figure embodying the native land, Algeria. Mona El Khoury argues that these filiation narratives create a postcolonial archive: a discursive foundation that makes historical minorities visible, while disrupting French and Algerian hegemonies. El Khoury questions the power of literature to repair history while contending that these literary strategies seek to do justice to the dead Algerian father, even as they valorize enduring minority identifications.

A large number of cultural heritage objects around the world are deteriorating or being destroyed due to the work of natural disasters, such as earthquakes and floods, and human-inflicted destruction, such as war and vandalism. In the wake of these threats, 3D data becomes a critical component to permanently recording the shapes of these important objects so that they might be passed down to future generations.

Archiving the Unspeakable Silence, Memory, and the Photographic Record in Cambodia
Archiving the Unspeakable: Silence, Memory, and the Photographic Record in Cambodia By Michelle Caswell
2014 | 231 Pages | ISBN: 0299297543 | PDF | 3 MB
Roughly 1.7 million people died in Cambodia from untreated disease, starvation, and execution during the Khmer Rouge reign of less than four years in the late 1970s. The regime's brutality has come to be symbolized by the multitude of black-and-white mug shots of prisoners taken at the notorious Tuol Sleng prison, where thousands of "enemies of the state" were tortured before being sent to the Killing Fields. In Archiving the Unspeakable, Michelle Caswell traces the social life of these photographic records through the lens of archival studies and elucidates how, paradoxically, they have become agents of silence and witnessing, human rights and injustice as they are deployed at various moments in time and space. From their creation as Khmer Rouge administrative records to their transformation beginning in 1979 into museum displays, archival collections, and databases, the mug shots are key components in an ongoing drama of unimaginable human suffering. Winner, Waldo Gifford Leland Award, Society of American Archivists Longlist, ICAS Book Prize, International Convention of Asia Scholars

Archiving Websites A practical guide for information management professionals
Adrian Brown, "Archiving Websites: A practical guide for information management professionals"
English | 2006 | ISBN: 1856045536 | 256 pages | PDF | 1.1 MB
The world wide web is arguably the most important, and certainly the largest and most ubiquitous, cultural and commercial information resource in existence. The requirements to actively preserve selected parts of it, and the attendant problems of archiving such a vast and ephemeral entity, are only now beginning to be fully appreciated. This important book is the first to offer practical guidance to information-management professionals seeking to implement web archiving programmes of their own. It is essential reading for those who need to collect and preserve specific elements of the web - from national domains or individual subject areas to an organization's own website. Drawing on the author's experience of managing The National Archives' web-archiving programme, together with lessons learned from other international initiatives, this book provides a comprehensive overview of current best practice, together with practical guidance for anyone seeking to establish a web-archiving programme. It assumes only a basic understanding of IT and web technologies, although it also offers much for more technically oriented readers. Contents include: the development of web archiving; selection; collection methods; quality assurance and cataloguing; preservation; delivery to users; legal issues; managing a web-archiving programme; and; future trends. Written to address audiences from the whole spectrum of information-management sectors, this book is essential reading for three types of reader: policy-makers, who need to make decisions about establishing or developing an institutional web archiving programme; information-management professionals, who may be required to implement a web-archiving programme; and website owners and webmasters, who may be required to facilitate archiving of their own websites.

Archiving Strategies for Evolutionary Multi-objective Optimization Algorithms
Archiving Strategies for Evolutionary Multi-objective Optimization Algorithms by Oliver Schütze
English | PDF | 2021 | 242 Pages | ISBN : 3030637727 | 17.3 MB
This book presents an overview of archiving strategies developed over the last years by the authors that deal with suitable approximations of the sets of optimal and nearly optimal solutions of multi-objective optimization problems by means of stochastic search algorithms. All presented archivers are analyzed with respect to the approximation qualities of the limit archives that they generate and the upper bounds of the archive sizes.
