Femtosecond Laser Filamentation
Free Download Femtosecond Laser Filamentation by See Leang Chin
English | PDF (True) | 2010 | 138 Pages | ISBN : 1441906878 | 5.2 MB
This book attempts to give a discussion of the physics and current and potential applications of the self-focusing of an intense femtosecond laser pulse in a tra- parent medium. Although self-focusing is an old subject of nonlinear optics, the consequence of self-focusing of intense femtosecond laser pulses is totally new and unexpected. Thus, new phenomena are observed, such as long range lam- tation, intensity clamping, white light laser pulse, self-spatial ltering, self-group phase locking, self-pulse compression, clean nonlinear uorescence, and so on. Long range propagation at high intensity, which is seemingly against the law of diffraction, is probably one of the most exciting consequences of this new sub- eld of nonlinear optics. Because the intensity inside the lament core is high, new ways of doing nonlinear optics inside the lament become possible. We call this lamentation nonlinear optics. We shall describe the generation of pulses at other wavelengths in the visible and ultraviolet (UV) starting from the near infrared pump pulse at 800 nm through four-wave-mixing and third harmonic generation, all in gases. Remotely sensing uorescence from the fragments of chemical and biological agents in all forms, gaseous, aerosol or solid, inside the laments in air is demonstrated in the labo- tory. The results will be shown in the last part of the book. Through analyzing the uorescence of gas molecules inside the lament, an unexpected physical process pertaining to the interaction of synchrotron radiation with molecules is observed.

Introduction to Ultrafast Phenomena From Femtosecond Magnetism to High–Harmonic Generation
Free Download Introduction to Ultrafast Phenomena
by Zhang, Guo-ping;Lefkidis, Georgios;Murakami, Mitsuko;Hübner, Wolfgang;George, Thomas F.;

English | 2021 | ISBN: 1498764282 | 320 pages | True PDF EPUB | 51.03 MB
This book, the first of this kind, provides a comprehensive introduction to ultrafast phenomena, covering the fundamentals of ultrafast spin and charge dynamics, femtosecond magnetism, all-optical spin switching, and high-harmonic generation. It covers the experimental tools, including ultrafast pump-probe experiments, and theoretical methods including quantum chemistry and density functional theory, both time-independent and time-dependent. The authors explain in clear language how an ultrafast laser pulse is generated experimentally, how it can induce rapid responses in electrons and spins in molecules, nanostructures and solids (magnetic materials and superconductors), and how it can create high-harmonic generation from atoms and solids on the attosecond timescale. They also show how this field is driving the next generation of magnetic storage devices through femtomagnetism, all-optical spin switching in ferrimagnets and beyond, magnetic logic in magnetic molecules, and ultrafast intense light sources, incorporating numerous computer programs, examples, and problems throughout, to show how the beautiful research can be done behind the scene. Key features: Provides a clear introduction to modern ultrafast phenomena and their applications in physics, chemistry, materials sciences, and engineering. Presents in detail how high-harmonic generation occurs in atoms and solids. Explains ultrafast demagnetization and spin switching, a new frontier for development of faster magnetic storage devices. Includes numerous worked-out examples and problems in each chapter, with real research codes in density functional theory and quantum chemical calculations provided in the chapters and in the Appendices. This book is intended for undergraduate and graduate students, researchers in physics, chemistry, biology, materials sciences, and engineering. This book provides a comprehensive introduction to ultrafast phenomena, covering the fundamentals of ultrafast spin and charge dynamics, key methods, and applications in physics, chemistry, and materials science. The authors explain in clear language how an ultrafast laser pulse can induce rapid responses in electrons and spins in solids and nanostructured materials. Femtosecond Laser-Matter Interactions Solid-Plasma-Solid Transformations at the Extreme Energy Density, 2nd Edition
English | 2022 | ISBN: 9814877409 | 294 Pages | True PDF | 30 MB
This book succinctly describes the ultra-short laser-matter interactions from the subtle atomic motion under the gentle excitation up to the generation of extreme pressures by the beam tightly focussed inside the bulk of a transparent crystal. It is the fully rewritten successor to Femtosecond Laser-Matter Interactions: Theory, Experiment and Applications (2011). Explanation and experimental verification of the exceptional technique for the phase transformations under extreme pressure are in the core of the book. The novel phase formation occurs along the unique solid-plasma-solid transformation path: The memory of the initial state is lost after conversion to plasma, and the restructuring proceeds during the cooling of the confined plasma. The extreme-pressure-affected material remains detained inside a pristine crystal at the laboratory tabletop. The super-dense aluminium and the previously unobserved crystalline phases of silicon were created by this method of confined micro-explosions. Recent studies have used the quasi-non-diffracting Bessel beams for increasing the number of new phases. The applications comprise the new material formation at extreme conditions and micromachining. The book is an engaging literature for readers interested in the cutting-edge research on the extreme energy density generation at the laboratory tabletop.
