The Ethical Implications of Shakespeare in Performance and Appropriation
Free Download Louise Geddes, "The Ethical Implications of Shakespeare in Performance and Appropriation"
English | ISBN: 1399524917 | 2024 | 224 pages | PDF | 5 MB
Bringing together the discrete fields of appropriation and performance studies, this collection explores pivotal intersections between the two approaches to consider the ethical implications of decisions made when artists and scholars appropriate Shakespeare. The essays in this book, written by established and emerging scholars in subfields such as premodern critical race studies, gender and sexuality studies, queer theory, performance studies, adaptation/appropriation studies and fan studies, demonstrate how remaking the plays across time, cultures or media changes the nature both of what Shakespeare promises and the expectations of those promised Shakespeare. Using examples such as rap music, popular television, theatre history and twentieth-century poetry, this collection argues that understanding Shakespeare at different intersections between performance and appropriation requires continuously negotiating what is signified through Shakespeare to the communities that use and consume him.

English | ISBN: 9627707708 | 2010 | 252 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Chinese English: Features and Implications is one of the first systematic attempts to codify the linguistic features of Chinese English and to explore the implications of Chinese English as a model for ELT and intra- and intercultural communication. This empirically based and thoroughly researched work presents the findings of an original investigation into the features and implications of Chinese English as a developing variety of English in the paradigm of World Englishes and Asian Englishes. It comprises three parts: Framework for Chinese English, Linguistic features of Chinese English, and Implications of Chinese English as a model. It will be of good value to students, teachers, academics, and researchers who are interested in Chinese English studies, ELT, and intra- and intercultural communication in China.

Aging and the Macroeconomy Long–Term Implications of an Older Population
Free Download Committee on the Long-Run Macro-Economic Effects of the Aging U.S. Population, "Aging and the Macroeconomy: Long-Term Implications of an Older Population"
English | ISBN: 0309261961 | 2013 | 256 pages | EPUB | 6 MB
The United States is in the midst of a major demographic shift. In the coming decades, people aged 65 and over will make up an increasingly large percentage of the population: The ratio of people aged 65+ to people aged 20-64 will rise by 80%. This shift is happening for two reasons: people are living longer, and many couples are choosing to have fewer children and to have those children somewhat later in life. The resulting demographic shift will present the nation with economic challenges, both to absorb the costs and to leverage the benefits of an aging population.

Agricultural Implications of Fukushima Nuclear Accident
Free Download Tomoko M. Nakanishi, "Agricultural Implications of Fukushima Nuclear Accident "
English | ISBN: 9811993602 | 2023 | 289 pages | EPUB, PDF | 60 MB + 11 MB
This open access book presents the findings from on-site research into radioactive cesium contamination in various agricultural systems affected by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident in March 2011. This fourth volume in the series reports on studies undertaken at contaminated sites such as farmland and forests, focusing on soil, water, mountain, agricultural products, and animals. It also provides additional data collected in the subsequent years to show how the radioactivity levels in agricultural products and their growing environments have changed with time and the route by which radioactive materials entered agricultural products as well as their movement between different components (e.g., soil, water, and trees) within an environmental system (e.g., forests). The book covers various topics, including radioactivity testing of food products; decontamination trials for rice and livestock production; the state of contamination in, trees, mushrooms, and timber; the dynamics of radioactivity distribution in paddy fields and upland forests; damage incurred by the forestry and fishery industries; and the change in consumers' attitudes. In the series of this book, a real-time radioisotope imaging system has been introduced, a pioneering technique to visualize the movement of cesium in soil and in plants. This is the only book to provide systematic data on the actual change of radioactivity, which is of great value to all researchers who wish to understand the effect of radioactive fallout on agriculture. In addition, it helps the general public better understand radio-contamination issues in the environment. The project is ongoing; the research groups from the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences of The University of Tokyo continue their work in the field further to evaluate the long-term effects of the Fukushima accident.

Covid–19 in Africa Societal and Economic Implications
Free Download Covid-19 in Africa: Societal and Economic Implications by Susan Arndt, Banhoro Yacouba, Taibat Lawanson, Enocent Msindo, Peter Simatei
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 330 Pages | ISBN : 3031403150 | 12.5 MB
Written amidst the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, this edited volume draws on the expertise of social scientists and humanities scholars to understand the many ramifications of Covid-19 on societies, politics, and the economies of Africa. The contributors examine measures, communicative practices, and experiences that have guided the (inter)action of governments, societies, and citizens in this unpredictable moment. Covid-19 tested governments' disaster preparedness as well as exposed governments' attitudes towards the poor and vulnerable. In the same vein, it also tested the agency of the African populace in the face of containment measures and their impact on everyday social, cultural, and economic practices of ordinary people. In this vein, our concern is to understand the relationship between growing vulnerability on the one hand, and ingenuity of agency on the other, and how both were embodied, narrated and discoursed by the African poor, university students, religious entities, middle-classes, and those who bore the major brunt of the lockdowns.
