Modern Introductory Physics
Free Download Modern Introductory Physics by C. H. Holbrow , J. N. Lloyd , J. C. Amato
English | PDF | 1999 | 524 Pages | ISBN : N/A | 52.6 MB
This book grew out of an ongoing effort to modernize Colgate University's three-term, introductory, calculus-Ievel physics course. The book is for the first term of this course and is intended to help first-year college students make a good transition from high-school physics to university physics. The book concentrates on the physics that explains why we believe in the existence of atoms and their properties. This story line, which motivates much of our professional research, has helped us limit the material presented to a more humane and more realistic amount than is presented in many beginning university physics courses. The theme of atoms also supports the presentation of more non-Newtonian topics and ideas than is customary in the first term of calculus-Ievel physics. We think it is important and desirable to introduce students sooner than usual to some of the major ideas that shape contemporary physicists' views of the nature and behavior of matter. On the verge of the twenty-first century such a goal seems particularly appropriate.

2013 | 456 Pages | ISBN: 1483324532 | EPUB | 13 MB
Introductory Statistics Using SPSS, by Herschel Knapp, shows readers how to properly select, process, and interpret statistics without heavy emphasis on theory, formula derivations, or abstract mathematical concepts. Each chapter is structured to answer questions that readers most want answered, including: how to choose the appropriate test for each situation, how to set up the data, how to run the test, and how to interpret and document the results. Requiring no hand calculations, this highly applied book helps readers "get the story" from their data. They learn by doing, completing practice exercises at the end of each chapter. Video tutorials on the accompanying website clearly demonstrate how to set up the data and run the test in SPSS. Contents: PART I: STATISTICAL PRINCIPLES - 1) Research Principles 2) Sampling 3) Working in SPSS; PART II: STATISTICAL PROCESSES - 4) Descriptive Statistics 5) T Test 6) ANOVA 7) Paired T Test 8) Correlation and Regression 9) Chi-Square; PART III: DATA HANDLING - 10) Supplemental SPSS Operations; PART IV - SOLUTIONS TO ODD-NUMBERED EXERCISES

Researching the Stereotypes of People Around Me An Introductory Thesis Writing Course for International Students
Free Download Stephanie Ann Houghton, "Researching the Stereotypes of People Around Me: An Introductory Thesis Writing Course for International Students"
English | ISBN: 1443865400 | 2014 | 165 pages | PDF | 1396 KB
This textbook will help students to develop thesis-writing skills through experiential learning by conducting a research project based on questionnaire - and interview-based research focusing on stereotypes, and reporting on it in a mini-thesis. It was developed for the benefit of international students who, in their penultimate year of study, are planning to write a graduation thesis in English related to stereotypes in their final year with little or no prior knowledge of the subject, or of thesis-writing itself. The overarching structure of the book provides a clear overview of the main parts of a thesis, and how they fit together. It presents a wide range of activities designed to help students to critically analyse and evaluate the academic literature with a specific research question in mind. It also provides a basic introduction to qualitative research methodology, placing a special focus on the systematic exploration of stereotypes. Fifteen units guide students through the process of defining stereotypes, before exploring their content and sources in relation to various themes. To promote extensive reading, the textbook may be used in conjunction with its optional accompanying handbook, from which many of the reading passages are drawn: Houghton, S.A., Furumura, Y., Lebedko, M., and Song, L. (Eds.), Critical cultural awareness: Managing stereotypes through intercultural (language) education (Newcastle Upon Tyne: Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2013).
