The King of Diamonds The Search for the Elusive Texas Jewel Thief [Audiobook]
Free Download Rena Pederson, Erin Dion (Narrator), "The King of Diamonds: The Search for the Elusive Texas Jewel Thief"
English | ASIN: B0CRHZJRL4 | 2024 | MP3@64 kbps | ~13:42:00 | 377 MB
As a string of high-profile jewel thefts went unsolved during the Swinging Sixties, the press dubbed the elusive thief the King of Diamonds. Like Cary Grant in To Catch a Thief, the King was so bold that he tip-toed into the homes of millionaires while they were home, hiding in their closets and daring to smoke while they were sleeping.
Rena Pederson, then a young reporter with UPI, started following the elusive thief while she managed the night desk. With gymnastic skill, he climbed trees and crawled across rooftops to take jewels from heiresses, oil kings, corporate CEOs-some of the richest people of their time. Scotland Yard and Interpol were on the look-out, but the thief was never caught nor the jewels recovered.
To follow the tracks of the thief, Rena has interviewed more than two hundred people, from cops to strippers. She went to pawn shops, Las Vegas casinos, and a Mafia hangout-and discovered that beneath the glittering façade of Dallas debutante parties was a world of sex trafficking, illegal gambling, and political graft. When one of the leading suspects was found dead in highly unusual circumstances, the story darkened. High society crashed head-first into Mickey Spillane.

Herod the Great Jewish King in a Roman World [Audiobook]
Free Download Herod the Great: Jewish King in a Roman World (Audiobook)
English | ASIN: B0CXL17F2V | 2024 | 6 hours and 00 minutes | MP3@64 kbps | 164 MB
Author: Martin Goodman
Narrator: Will Tulin

A vivid account of the political triumphs and domestic tragedies of the Jewish king Herod the Great during the turmoil of the Roman revolution. Herod the Great (73-4 BCE) was a phenomenally energetic ruler who took advantage of the chaos of the Roman revolution to establish himself as a major figure in a changing Roman world and transform the landscape of Judaea. Both Jews and Christians developed myths about his cruelty and rashness: in Christian tradition he was cast as the tyrant who ordered the Massacre of the Innocents; in the Talmud, despite fond memories of his glorious Temple in Jerusalem, he was recalled as a persecutor of rabbis.

They'll Have No King but Caesar King Henry of the Cross
Free Download Helen Tzima Otto, "They'll Have No King but Caesar: King Henry of the Cross"
English | 2005 | ISBN: 1891663089 | DJVU | pages: 569 | 6.0 mb
If we were to carefully study the Sepuagint (Greek translation of the Old Testament) we would discover that it differs from the later Masoretic (Jewish) version in some very vital details. Based on such discrepancies we can establish that the OT prophets had spoken of two distinct royal messiahs from the House of David. The book provides prophetic and other information to fully identify the second messiah, according to Christian Eschatology. The book also establishes the internal consistency of all the prophecies regarding the Golden Gate in Jeuraslem in its eschatological significance. In fact it is the royal Messiah who will miraculously enter through it in the near future, but this royal Messiah that the Jews expect will be a great champion of Christianity. Also, what should we know about the true origin of those referred to as "Eastern Jews" in Zionist literature? These and additional highly relevant issues are treated in depth. They are not mere suggestions and speculations, they are established facts based on rigorous analysis and treatment of a grest wealth of data.

The Wolf King Ibn Mardanish and the Construction of Power in al–Andalus
Free Download Abigail Krasner Balbale, "The Wolf King: Ibn Mardanish and the Construction of Power in al-Andalus "
English | ISBN: 1501765876 | 2023 | 360 pages | PDF | 33 MB
The Wolf Kingexplores how political power was conceptualized, constructed, and wielded in twelfth-century al-Andalus, focusing on the eventful reign of Muhammad ibn Sad ibn Ahmad ibn Mardanīsh (r. 1147-1172). Celebrated in Castilian and Latin sources as el rey lobo/rex lupus and denigrated by Almohad and later Arabic sources as irreligious and disloyal to fellow Muslims because he fought the Almohads and served as vassal to the Castilians, Ibn Mardanīsh ruled a kingdom that at its peak constituted nearly half of al-Andalus and served as an important buffer between the Almohads and the Christian kingdoms of Castile and Aragon.

Maiden King
Free Download Maiden King By Robert Bly; Marion Woodman
1998 | 304 Pages | ISBN: 0805057773 | PDF | 6 MB
In "The Maiden King," two wise teachers guide us through the rich, metaphorical world of an ancient folktale to explore the possibility of a new relationship between masculine and feminine. Here, both women and men will find a vision of the powerful feminine, an energy our contemporary world has not been able to receive or sustain. This book presents a map of the sorrow both men and women feel today in relation to each other, and it provides a guide to their eventual reconciliation. The steps of reunion are not laid out in sociological language, but rather in the ancient language of metaphor, which retains an astonishing color and vividness. Ultimately, by the end of "The Maiden King," both masculine and feminine find a place of intersection where they can discard their false projections of each other.

King Arthur and Robin Hood The History and Folklore of England's Most Famous Folk Legends
Free Download King Arthur and Robin Hood: The History and Folklore of England's Most Famous Folk Legends By Charles River Editors, Jesse Harasta
2017 | 130 Pages | ISBN: 1981890653 | EPUB | 3 MB
*Includes pictures *Includes a table of contents King Arthur is one of the most famous names in history, and his name still evokes visions of fantasy, chivalry, bravery, and more even today. Arthur remains a pop culture fixture around the globe, made famous in various Arthurian tales written by writers like Chretien de Troyes. Arthur came to embody the ideals of the Middle Ages: strength, chivalry, bravery, and more. Along the way, his Excalibur sword, the Holy Grail, his queen, and more have all become household words. Arthur has long been identified as a folk hero, and there are countless tales that comprise the Arthurian legend, but was there an actual person that the original stories were based on? People still search for the seeds of truth in the Knights of the Round Table, and the historical figure that inspired the Arthurian tales. Of course, as with all great myths, and even those with a kernel of truth behind them, there is no "real" Arthur. Arthur is now comprised of the works written by diverse storytellers, most of which have built upon the ancient stories and possibly history. It is from there that a primordial seed of myth remains at the heart of all the retellings. At the same time, Arthur's story is one of transformation, as he is brought from the Middle Ages into the Renaissance and more modern times. And that story also includes the famous contemporaries in his stories and other important historical figures, like Geoffrey of Monmouth, the imprisoned Sir Thomas Mallory and Walt Disney. When looking for the historical and mythical Arthur, scholars try to understand how the Arthur of these tales and of others like Disney's Sword in the Stone and Monty Python and the Holy Grail came to be. What are the origins of the Arthur legend and what can they tell people about the past? What is the historical basis for King Arthur, if any? There are few characters in the English language more iconic than Robin Hood. Emerging out of the ballads of the High Middle Ages and surviving through numerous permutations to the present day, the green-clad archer has become an icon. Today he represents a playful, irreverent and cunning resistance to corruption and injustice, associated primarily with stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. Robin Hood's selfless acts of helping the masses at the expense of himself (by not keeping his treasure) have led to contemporary figures like Bill Gates being called "Modern Day Robin Hoods", and when a British man robbed a bank in 2013 and handed out the money to homeless people before he was arrested and imprisoned, the name Robin Hood was naturally in the news once more. Robin Hood is a celebrated folk hero and a kind of good thief, but the earliest stories about Robin Hood depict a far different character. The first Robin Hood was often a brutal and selfish yet also honorable figure, an anti-hero loved (perhaps paradoxically) by many social classes and loathed by authorities. When the notorious Gunpowder Description was discovered at the beginning of the 17th century, the Earl of Salisbury condemned Guy Fawkes and the conspirators for being "Robin Hoods". The transformation of Robin Hood over the centuries has left many scholars attempting to find the origins behind the original story. Like King Arthur, some have even sought a historical figure that might serve as the basis for Robin Hood, while others have sought out mythological origins to see if Robin Hood's character evolved out of a mythological figure. When looking for the historical and mythical figure, scholars try to understand how the Robin Hood of these tales and came to be. What are the origins of Robin Hood and what can they tell people about the past? What is the historical basis for Robin Hood, if any?
