Models of Science Teacher Preparation Theory into Practice
Free Download D.R. Lavoie, W.M. Roth, "Models of Science Teacher Preparation: Theory into Practice"
English | 2002 | pages: 227 | ISBN: 9048157552, 0792371291 | PDF | 1,4 mb
1 Wolff Michael Roth & Derrick R. Lavoie² 1 2 University of Victoria, Virtual Institute for Learning Resources The current reform in science education requires a substantive change in how science is taught. Implicit in this reform is an equally substantive change in professional devel- ment practices at all levels. (NRC, 1996,p. 56) In a continuously changing society, it is not surprising that education also undergoes continuous change. Science education is no exception, and perhaps changes are more rapid given the daily construction of new scientific knowledge. In such a c- mate of continuous change, the preparation of science teachers has to follow suit in order to be appropriate to the reforms that national organizations encourage. H- ever, whereas science teaching reform movements spawned recommendations of what teachers should know and be able to do in order for their students to concep- alize and process science (NSTA, 1997), they provide little guidance in terms of - the-classroom concrete implementation. Thus, while national science education organizations continue to refine their positions about teacher education, there is no mechanism for translating these positions and statements into science education courses that can improve the preparation and quality of p- service science teachers at both the elementary and secondary levels. (Yager & Penick, 1990. p. 670) It is therefore not surprising that there are voices that describe teacher prepa- tion as unsuccessful and as unresponsive to reform efforts (Schnur & Golby, 1995).

-From the author of 'The Things Our Fathers Saw' World War II narrative history trilogy-From the book:- 'I survived because of many miracles. But for me to actually meet, shake hands, hug, and cry together with my liberators-the 'angels of life' who literally gave me back my life-was just beyond imagination.'-Leslie Meisels, Holocaust Survivor- 'Battle-hardened veterans learn to contain their emotions, but it was difficult then, and I cry now to think about it. What stamina and regenerative spirit those brave people showed!'-George C. Gross, Liberator- 'Never in our training were we taught to be humanitarians. We were taught to be soldiers.'-Frank Towers, Liberator- 'I cannot believe, today, that the world almost ignored those people and what was happening. Rozell's work results in joyful reunions on three continents, seven decades later. He offers his unique perspective on the lessons of the Holocaust for future generations, and the impact that one person, a teacher, can make.-Featuring testimony from 15 American liberators and over 30 Holocaust survivors-10 custom maps -72 photographs and illustrations, many never before published.-extensive notes and bibliographical referencesIncluded:BOOK ONE-THE HOLOCAUSTBOOK TWO-THE AMERICANSBOOK THREE-LIBERATIONBOOK FOUR-REUNION

Understanding a Pedagogy of Teacher Education
Free Download Brandon M. Butler, "Understanding a Pedagogy of Teacher Education"
English | ISBN: 1032429712 | 2024 | 244 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Providing readers with insights and examples of how teacher educators learn and teach a pedagogy of teacher education (PTE), Butler and Bullock organize a wholistic and practical resource for the next generation of teacher educators. Expanding on the highly referenced scholarship of John Loughran and Tom Russell, Understanding a Pedagogy of Teacher Education explores the learning of PTE through individual and collaborative endeavors, and large-scale institutional and cross-national initiatives. Contributors highlight their experiences teaching PTE in formal learning spaces, in international workshop settings, and on the program-wide scale in order to uncover how they came to understand PTE and enact it effectively. Each chapter connects broad strokes concepts of PTE to well-defined teacher education fields, such as social justice, literacy, early childhood education, and communities of practice. Blending well-established theory with contemporary examples, this book is a great tool for teacher education faculty, doctoral students, and those interested in improving their PTE or supporting others in their PTE learning.

English | ISBN: 178892651X | 2022 | 432 pages | PDF | 2 MB
This edited book expands the current scholarship on teaching world languages for social justice and equity in K-12 and postsecondary contexts in the US. Over the past decade, demand has been growing for a more critical approach to teaching languages and cultures: in response, this volume brings together a group of scholars whose work bridges the fields of world language education and critical approaches to education. Within the current US context, the chapters address the following key questions: (1) How are pre-service or in-service world language teachers/professors embedding issues, understandings, or content related to social justice, human rights, access, critical pedagogy and equity into their teaching and curriculum? (2) How are teacher educators preparing language teachers to teach for social justice, human rights, access and equity?
