Free Download Joseph Lustgarten, Yan Cui, Shulin Li, "Targeted Cancer Immune Therapy"
English | 2009 | pages: 340 | ISBN: 1441901698, 1493939912 | PDF | 4,6 mb
Stimulation of the immune system's ability to control and destroy tumors cont- ues to be the goal of cancer immune therapy; but the scope has rapidly expanded; approaches are constantly updated; new molecules are continually introduced; and immune mechanisms are becoming better understood. This book has no intention of covering every aspect of immune therapy but rather focuses on the novelty of cancer immune therapy in an attempt to give readers an opportunity to absorb the new aspects of immune therapy from a single source. In this regard, three areas were selected: cytokine immune therapy, cell-based immune therapy, and targeted immune therapy. In each of these three sections, only the novel aspects of immune therapy were described instead of attempting to cover any historical achievement. In the first section, Cytokine Immune Therapy, the IL12 family, IL18, IL21, IL24, IL28, and IL29 were emphasized in regard to the an- tumor function and application in treating tumors. Most of these selected cyt- ines were discovered in last 10 years. In the second section, Cell-based Immune Therapy, the focus was engineering potent immune regulatory or effector cells such as dendritic cells, T cells, and stem cells. Cell engineering design is primarily based on the increased understanding of the interaction of tumor antigen-presenting cells, antigen- specific effector cells, and the tumor microenvironment.

English | 2008 | pages: 674 | ISBN: 1934115827, 160327880X | PDF | 16,8 mb
Therapeutic options for patients with myeloma have dramatically changed over the past 10 years. Beginning with the advances in therapy resulting from the use of high-dose therapy and autologous bone marrow or stem cell tra- plant, we have more than doubled the median survival for patients as a whole, and have now have a wealth of different biology -based treatment approaches for our patients in all disease stages. This book represents state-of-the-art information from many of the leaders in the plasma cell disorders world. Sections focusing on disease pathogenesis and biology, chemotherapy-based approaches, immune -based therapies, currently approved novel agents, developing targets, supportive care, and other plasma cell disorders provides a comprehensive collection and an excellent resource in this time of rapid change in clinical and preclinical disease knowledge. It is important to realize that these changes did not occur in a vacuum. Partnerships between academic institutions, the pharmaceutical industry, patient advocacy groups, the National Cancer Institute, community onco- gists, and ultimately our patients worked closely together to realize these advances, and to effect the radical changes in therapy we have witnessed over the past few years. This book would not have been possible without contri- tions from each of the gifted scientists and clinicians who worked tirelessly to prepare their individual chapters all the while maintaining commitment to the scientific and clinical mission of advancing care.

The book chapters are based on a wide interdisciplinary range covering writings on medicine, infant and bonding research, developmental psychology, psychoanalysis, as well as music therapy in its different approaches. As in the first edition, Part One deals with basic theories: the treatment concept NIDCAP (focusing on infant development and the significance of the development of the sensorial systems), research on auditory development, the psychoanalytic view of auditory influences from the onset of prenatal life with special focus on the mother`s voice, and the potentials of music therapy for regulation and sycnchronization within relationships. Part Two presents an overview of individual music therapy approaches to research and clinical practice, including qualitative and quantitative paradigms and both functional and psychotherapeutic approaches to practice - all based on research and extensive clinical practice - using a wide range of musical strategies. Including an overview of the new development and significance of parental work. The aim of the book is to show the benefits of music and music therapy as supportive intervention for hospitalized infants and also for their parents, by addressing the immediate and long-term developmental needs of the infant with regards to the evidence of bonding, relationships, and communication. The last chapters provide practical advice for implementing music therapy in NICUs as evaluated during the last 20 years.
