English | ISBN: 1529224454 | 2023 | 270 pages | PDF | 15 MB
With contributions from an international team of experts, this collection provides a much-needed international, comparative approach to mental capacity law. The book focuses particularly on exploring substantive commonalities and divergences in normative orientation and practical application embedded in different legal frameworks. It draws together contributions from eleven different jurisdictions across Europe, Asia and the UK and explores what productive or unproductive values and practices currently exist. By providing a detailed comparison of how legal and ethical commitments to persons with disabilities are framed in capacity law across different national systems, the book highlights the values and practices that could lead to changes that better respect persons with disabilities in mental capacity regimes.

Traditional Values and Local Community in the Formal Educational System in Senegal
Free Download Maguette Diame, "Traditional Values and Local Community in the Formal Educational System in Senegal "
English | ISBN: 1032575395 | 2023 | 194 pages | EPUB/PDF | 734 KB
This book explores the discourse of traditional values and local practices within the formal educational system in Senegal, investigating how these cultural elements are present in the daily life of the community and integrated into formal schools and teaching. Studying the integration of concepts such as Jom (hard work, pride, dignity), Kersa (decency), Fule (self-respect), Mun (endurance), Teranga (hospitality), Kal (kinship), and Suture (Protection), it looks at how values are used, perceived and understood within communities, as well as their positive and negative connotations in the postcolonial context. Based on long-term participant education and utilizing a critical auto-ethnography lens, it ultimately proposes that such concepts can be used to counterbalance the Western knowledge to which schoolchildren are mostly exposed, connecting this to Bhaba's system of the 'Third Space"; a hybrid system to accommodate both educational systems for more relevant education. An informed study of the positive impacts of traditional cultural values on education in Senegal, it will appeal to scholars, researchers and practitioners of education in post-colonial Francophone countries with interests in culturally relevant education, African education, post-colonial education, and international education.

Regenerative Business Voices Values–based Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Enterprises
Free Download Regenerative Business Voices: Values-based Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Enterprises
English | 2024 | ISBN: 1032343273 | 213 Pages | PDF (True) | 3 MB
Regenerative sustainability recognizes the urgency of transforming organizations to reverse the unsustainable pathways we are currently on. Regenerative businesses do not simply do less harm, or produce zero emissions, or optimize the efficient use of natural resources; they also restore and enhance well-being in social and ecological systems. The stories presented here are analyzed using the business ethics approach called Giving Voice to Values (GVV). Through the application of GVV principles, we uncover the processes involved in how regenerative businesses develop and function, and gain insights into how business leaders voice their deep convictions, overcome silencing rationalizations, normalize their execution of personal choice, discover deep purpose in their work, and draw on their personal histories to create new ways of doing business. We present and analyze these cases to understand how and why expressing values can be so crucial in developing sustainable businesses, and to provide practical examples of how individuals can generate enthusiasm, counter objections, gain allies, and prepare for and practice conversations that help them move forward.

Values, Virtues, and Vices, Italian Style Caesar, Dante, Machiavelli, and Garibaldi
Free Download Raymond Angelo Belliotti, "Values, Virtues, and Vices, Italian Style: Caesar, Dante, Machiavelli, and Garibaldi "
English | ISBN: 1683932757 | 2020 | 272 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Values, Virtues, and Vices, Italian Style illustrates the story of the evolution of Italian values, virtues, and vices is a narrative of longing, exhilaration, and devastation, a journey of the spirit that all human beings necessarily undertake but navigate with varying degrees of success. The lives of Caesar, Dante, Machiavelli, and Garibaldi demonstrate how we can lead staunchly meaningful lives even within an inherently meaningless universe. The ambition of this work is nothing more, nothing less, than entangling, through a careful examination of the values, virtues, and vices of four famous historical figures, a host of overlapping but distinct concepts, such as pride, honor, justification, excuse, repentance, and forgiveness that frame human existence. Belliotti's objective is that by conducting such an interdisciplinary inquiry we might better position ourselves to craft our characters within the limitations enjoined by our cosmic circumstances. As always, however, we must deliberate, choose, and act under conditions of inescapable uncertainty; assume responsibility for the people we are becoming; and, hopefully, depart the planet with honor and merited pride. Along the way, we might even magnify our link in the generational chain that defines our identity.

Music Commodities, Markets, and Values Music as Merchandise
Free Download Jayson Beaster-Jones, "Music Commodities, Markets, and Values: Music as Merchandise "
English | ISBN: 1138947806 | 2016 | 208 pages | PDF | 2 MB
This bookexamines music stores as sites of cultural production in contemporary India. Analyzing social practices of selling music in a variety of retail contexts, it focuses upon the economic and social values that are produced and circulated by music retailers in the marketplace. Based upon research conducted over a volatile ten-year period of the Indian music industry, Beaster-Jones discusses the cultural histories of the recording industry, the social changes that have accompanied India's economic liberalization reforms, and the economic realities of selling music in India as digital circulation of music recordings gradually displaced physical distribution. The volume considers the mobilization of musical, economic, and social values as a component of branding discourses in neoliberal India, as a justification for new regimes of legitimate use and intellectual property, as a scene for the performance of cosmopolitanism by shopping, and as a site of anxiety about transformations in the marketplace. It relies upon ethnographic observation and interviews from a variety of sources within the Indian music industry, including perspectives of executives at music labels, family-run and corporate music stores, and hawkers in street markets selling counterfeit recordings. This ethnography of the practices, spaces, and anxieties of selling music in urban India will be an important resource for scholars in a wide range of fields, including ethnomusicology, anthropology, popular music studies, and South Asian studies.
