B. J. Harrison Reads A Marine Excursion by Stephen Leacock

English | MP3@192 kbps | 49 min | 67.6 MB
"The Marine Excursion of the Knights of Pythias" is the third story from Stephen Leacock's masterpiece story sequence "Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town". It deals with an exploration of the social, political, and religious aspects of life in Mariposa, while some of its citizens are on a cruise holiday excursion. Spirits are high when catastrophe strikes. An extremely interesting parody of sea voyages, "The Marine Excursion" is a charming and ironic story, and a very representative portrayal of Leacock's own view of his contemporary Canadians. Stephen Leacock (1869-1944) was a Canadian writer, teacher, and political person. During the first two decades of the 20th century, he was the leading humour writer in the English world. His works often satirize in a light-hearted way the social and political problems of the time, as well as the human condition. His most prominent work is "Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town", where he portrays the ordinary lives of the fictitious town of Mariposa.

An Indefinite Excursion in Operator Theory Geometric and Spectral Treks in Kreĭn Spaces
An Indefinite Excursion in Operator Theory: Geometric and Spectral Treks in Kreĭn Spaces
English | 2022 | ISBN: 1108969038 | 511 Pages | PDF | 4 MB
This modern introduction to operator theory on spaces with indefinite inner product discusses the geometry and the spectral theory of linear operators on these spaces, the deep interplay with complex analysis, and applications to interpolation problems. The text covers the key results from the last four decades in a readable way with full proofs provided throughout. Step by step, the reader is guided through the intricate geometry and topology of spaces with indefinite inner product, before progressing to a presentation of the geometry and spectral theory on these spaces. The author carefully highlights where difficulties arise and what tools are available to overcome them. With generous background material included in the appendices, this text is an excellent resource for researchers in operator theory, functional analysis, and related areas as well as for graduate students.

An Excursion Through Discrete Differential Geometry
An Excursion Through Discrete Differential Geometry (Proceedings of Symposia in Applied Mathematics) by Keenan Crane
2020 | ISBN: 1470446626 | English | 140 pages | PDF | 41 MB
Discrete Differential Geometry (DDG) is an emerging discipline at the boundary between mathematics and computer science. It aims to translate concepts from classical differential geometry into a language that is purely finite and discrete, and can hence be used by algorithms to reason about geometric data. In contrast to standard numerical approximation, the central philosophy of DDG is to faithfully and exactly preserve key invariants of geometric objects at the discrete level. This process of translation from smooth to discrete helps to both illuminate the fundamental meaning behind geometric ideas and provide useful algorithmic guarantees. This volume is based on lectures delivered at the 2018 AMS Short Course Discrete Differential Geometry, held January 8 9, 2018, in San Diego, California. The papers in this volume illustrate the principles of DDG via several recent topics: discrete nets, discrete differential operators, discrete mappings, discrete conformal geometry, and discrete optimal transport.

Herbs and the Earth An Evocative Excursion into the Lore & Legend of Our Common Herbs
Herbs and the Earth: An Evocative Excursion into the Lore & Legend of Our Common Herbs by Henry Beston
English | September 1, 1994 | ISBN: 0879238275, 1567921884 | EPUB | 168 pages | 9.7 MB
Lavender, basil, hyssop, balm, sage, rue ― the thinking gardener's guide to herbs. Writer/naturalist Henry Beston, a founding father of the environmental movement, believed that a strong connection to nature is essential. "It is only when we are aware of the earth and of the earth as poetry that we truly live," Beston says in his now-classic Herbs and the Earth. In this book, Beston shares one of those connections as seen through the oldest group of plants known to gardeners.
