Free Download The Travels of Ibn Battuta, A.D. 1325-1354: Volume II By H. A. R. Gibb 2017 | 296 Pages | ISBN: 1409414833 | PDF | 20 MB Ibn Battuta was born in Tangier in 1304. Between 1324 and 1354 he journeyed through North Africa and Asia Minor and as far as China. On a separate voyage he crossed the Sahara to the Muslim lands of West Africa. His journeys are estimated to have covered over 75,000 miles and he is the only medieval traveller known to have visited every Muslim state of the time, besides the 'infidel' countries of Istanbul, Ceylon and China. The first volume recorded Ibn Battuta's earliest journeys through Tunisia, Egypt, Syria and Arabia. This volume continues with his journeys through Persia, Iraq and Arabia, Asia Minor and South Russia with detailed descriptions of the towns on the way and the customs of the inhabitants. Sir Hamilton Gibb's edition comprises four volumes with introduction and full notes. This first complete and scholarly edition in English has proved essential to orientalists and illuminating to medievalists. The travels are a major source for the political and economic life of large regions of Asia and Africa. The observations of this intelligent representative of Islamic culture on almost all the known inhabited world beyond Europe provide fruitful comparisons with the life and geographical knowledge of the West. Translated with revisions and new annotation from the Arabic text edited by C. Defrmery and B.R. Sanguinetti. Continued from Second Series 110, with continuous main pagination. Covering southern Persia, Iraq, southern Arabia, East Africa, the Persian Gulf, Asia Minor and South Russia. Continued in Second Series 141 and 178, with index in 190. This is a new print-on-demand hardback edition of the volume first published in 1962. Free Download Binyamin Abrahamov, "Perspectives, Relationships and Relativity in Ibn al-'Arabi's Thought" English | ASIN : B0CN5V3C85 | 2023 | pages | PDF | 22 MB In the Middle Ages Muslim scholars from various fields used the system of examining issues from different points of view. Some of them emphasized the relativity of religious values and others explained problems by providing relationships between pairs of principles or entities. However, the Greatest Master Ibn al-'Arabī (d. 1240) took this methodology farther than any other Muslim scholar by employing the devices of perspectives, relationships and relativity in order to discuss religious matters. His profound thoughts regarding metaphysics, mysticism, religious law and theology are imbued with these systems to such an extent that in his view it is inconceivable to know something unless one is aware of all its aspects. According to our author, from the rational perspective God is considered transcendent but from the imaginal perspective He is immanent. Likewise, from the cosmic point of view all religions are equal but from the terrestrial point of view they are different. Moreover, his philosophy includes God, who acts by employing perspectives that pertain to Him, to the Messenger and even to the human beings. Without doubt, his system of thought was revolutionary for his time and comes very close to modern ideas. Hogendijk English | PDF | 1985 | 425 Pages | ISBN : N/A | 28.5 MB Arabic science began to flourish about A.D. 800, nearly a century after the great conquests oflslam. Baghdad, the recently founded capital of the empire, became the cultural and intellectual centre of the world and attracted many scholars with different backgrounds. In the process of translation and transmission of older scientific texts, the Arabic language became the vehicle par excellence for scientific and philosophical thought. Thus began what is called the Arabic scientific tradition, l i.e. the activity of scholars of different nationalities, who came from various parts of the Muslim world (Persia, Arabia, Syria, etc.), who had different religions (mainly Muslim, but also Christian, Jewish, and others) and who mainly wrote in Arabic. Arabic science flourished with interruptions till ca. 1450. The transmission of Arabic texts or Arabic translations of Greek texts to (Western) Europe was a decisive factor in the development of Latin science and philosophy in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, which in turn paved the way for the Renaissance in Europe. However, Arabic science remained for the most part unknown in the West.
