Birth of an Empire The State of Qin Revisited
Free Download Birth of an Empire: The State of Qin Revisited By Yuri Pines; Gideon Shelach; Lothar von Falkenhausen; Robin D.S. Yates
2013 | 408 Pages | ISBN: 1938169077 | PDF | 49 MB
In 221 BCE the state of Qin vanquished its rivals and established the first empire on Chinese soil, starting a millennium-long imperial age in Chinese history. Hailed by some and maligned by many, Qin has long been an enigma. In this pathbreaking study, the authors integrate textual sources with newly available archeological and paleographic materials, providing a boldly novel picture of Qin's cultural and political trajectory, its evolving institutions and its religion, its place in China's history, and the reasons for its success and for its ultimate collapse.

Keynes and The General Theory Revisited
Free Download Axel Kicillof, "Keynes and The General Theory Revisited "
English | ISBN: 1138096016 | 2017 | 420 pages | EPUB/pdf | 721 KB
Every time the economy goes through a period of crisis, Keynes' name is called upon by economists and politicians from diverse backgrounds. However, 70 years after the publication of The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, specialists are still far―maybe everyday further―from reaching agreement about the genuine contents of Keynes' most important work. This controversy has been marked by a paradoxical turn: it is above all the literature about Keynes which, in the last decades, has imposed the terms of the debate, while The General Theory lacks readers. Accused by both its detractors and admirers of being a confusing book that is inconsistent and even plagued with logical errors, the most important contribution of the most influential economist of the 20th century has been condemned to be forgotten or, at best, to live uncomfortably in the voices of those who have spoken on his behalf.

Ras il–Wardija Sanctuary Revisited A re–assessment of the evidence and newly informed interpretations of a Punic–Roman
Free Download George Azzopardi, "Ras il-Wardija Sanctuary Revisited: A re-assessment of the evidence and newly informed interpretations of a Punic-Roman "
English | ISBN: 1784916692 | 2017 | 88 pages | PDF | 7 MB
The secluded sanctuary on the coastal promontory of Ras il-Wardija on the central Mediterranean island of Gozo (near Malta) constitutes another landmark on the religious map of the ancient Mediterranean. Ritual activity at the sanctuary seems to be evidenced from around the 3rd century BC to the 2nd century AD and, possibly, even as late as the 4th century AD. This ritual activity was focused in a small built temple and in a rock-cut cave that seems to have incorporated a built extension in a later stage. But the practised cult or cults were aniconic and remained so largely throughout. This may explain why the sanctuary's excavators did not report any findings of statuettes or any figural images. Contemporaneously, figural images were also venerated on other sites showing that, for a long while, iconism and aniconism co-existed on the Maltese islands. There might have been more than one deity venerated in this sanctuary. Dionysos could have been one of them. But whoever they were, they are likely to have been somehow connected with the sea and / or with a maritime community or communities as the sanctuary itself evidently was.
