The Cambridge History of Christianity, Volume 1 Origins to Constantine
The Cambridge History of Christianity, Volume 1: Origins to Constantine By Margaret M. Mitchell, Frances M. Young
2006 | 790 Pages | ISBN: 0521812399 | PDF | 6 MB
The first of the nine volume The Cambridge History of Christianity series, Origins to Constantine provides a comprehensive overview of the essential events, persons, places and issues involved in the emergence of the Christian religion in the Mediterranean world in the first three centuries. Over thirty essays written by scholarly experts trace this dynamic history from the time of Jesus through to the rise of Imperial Christianity in the fourth century. It provides thoughtful and well-documented analyses of the diverse forms of Christian community, identity and practice that arose within decades of Jesus' death, and which through missionary efforts were soon implanted throughout the Roman Empire. Origins to Constantine examines the distinctive characteristics of Christian groups in each geographical region up to the end of the third century, while also exploring the development of the institutional forms, intellectual practices and theological formulations that would mark Christian history in subsequent centuries.

The Art and Skill of Sales Psychology Why Buyers and Sellers Do What They Do
Brad McDonald, "The Art and Skill of Sales Psychology: Why Buyers and Sellers Do What They Do"
English | ISBN: 0578467275 | 2019 | 142 pages | EPUB | 2,5 MB
The ART AND SKILL OF SALES PSYCHOLOGY lays out, in accessible terms that any sales professional can understand, how to identify and learn from the psychological motivators that cause buyers and sellers to do what they do. The book offers clarity and control over the sales process to salespeople, and powerful insights on coaching to managers. This book is a primer for exploring why people do what they do in sales situations. If you are in sales and you have ever struggled to understand the mindset of your prospect; if you have ever wondered why honest, moral, ethical people choose to lie to a salesperson; if you have ever wished for more control over sales interactions that seem to ride a fine line between trust and confusion; if you have ever struggled to understand and deal effectively with your own mindset and your own frustrations when selling-this book is for you. It provides critical insights on human behavior that will help you to understand and control your sales calls. If you are a sales manager or a coach, this book will challenge you. It will ask you to consider the possibility that the best way to help a struggling salesperson may be to help them to create a better understanding of the fears, anxieties, and confusion that often arise about the sales process-both the seller's and the buyer's. Understanding this is more essential than drilling your team in the right tactics. Of course, the tactics are important. They're the answer to the question, "What do I do?" But understanding the "why" behind the tactics might just be the best place to start.

Surgically Shaping Children Technology, Ethics, and the Pursuit of Normality
Surgically Shaping Children: Technology, Ethics, and the Pursuit of Normality By Erik Parens
2006 | 306 Pages | ISBN: 0801883059 | PDF | 15 MB
At a time when medical technologies make it ever easier to enhance our minds and bodies, a debate has arisen about whether such efforts promote a process of "normalization," which makes it ever harder to tolerate the natural anatomical differences among us. The debate becomes especially complicated when it addresses the surgical alteration, or "shaping," of children. This volume explores the ethical and social issues raised by the recent proliferation of surgeries designed to make children born with physical differences look more normal.Using three cases -- surgeries to eliminate craniofacial abnormalities such as cleft lip and palate, surgeries to correct ambiguous genitalia, and surgeries to lengthen the limbs of children born with dwarfism -- the contributors consider the tensions parents experience when making such life-altering decisions on behalf of or with their children. The essays in this volume offer in-depth examinations of the significance and limits of surgical alteration through personal narratives, theoretical reflections, and concrete suggestions about how to improve the decision-making process. Written from the perspectives of affected children and their parents, health care providers, and leading scholars in philosophy, sociology, history, law, and medicine, this collection provides an integrated and comprehensive foundation from which to consider a complex and controversial issue. It takes the reader on a journey from reflections on the particulars of current medical practices to reflections on one of the deepest and most complex of human desires: the desire for normality.ContributorsPriscilla Alderson, Adrienne Asch, Cassandra Aspinall, Alice Domurat Dreger, James C. SuperCycles The New Economic Force Transforming Global Markets and Investment Strategy
SuperCycles: The New Economic Force Transforming Global Markets and Investment Strategy By Arun Motianey
2010 | 272 Pages | ISBN: 0071637370 | PDF | 4 MB
Supercycles is a refreshing view of modern economics that draws richly from the author's knowledge of history and experience. Motianey questions the "science" of economics because it generally lacks verification. There are so many variables in most economic models that it is impossible to identify causality with any accuracy. As a result almost any conclusion can be explained using very different theories. Supercycles describes longer trends that suggest that violent moves in the global economy are seeded in longer term fundamental problems rather than a dotcom bubble or a subprime bubble. The bubbles are symptoms of the problem rather than the cause. I think the book is written in a very readable format that is refreshing in its style and analysis. The book challenges the reader without the boring verbiage of typical economics texts or the fluff I would associate with the pop-economic books that have recently been written. It is thoughtful and well written. It is a unique analysis that explains much of the recent financial turbulence and unfortunately much of the turbulence that is expected to come.
