Inside the Real Area 51 The Secret History of Wright Patterson
Thomas J. Carey, "Inside the Real Area 51: The Secret History of Wright Patterson"
English | ISBN: 1601632363 | 2013 | 288 pages | EPUB | 19 MB
"Never again should it be said that we simply don't have evidence of extraterrestrial visitation. If the eyewitness testimony of dozens of honorable, distinguished, and heroic military men and women is to account for anything...then we should listen to what they've been telling us about Wright-Patterson AFB. Schmitt and Carey take us on a riveting journey inside underground hangars and down secret tunnels to the testing labs and storage facilities of quite possibly the world's most historically important air base. My own grandfather's unusual employment at the base is interwoven with the secrets guarded within its gates. It was because of his experiences on special assignments at the facility that he was compelled to tell his family from his deathbed, 'We are not alone.'"

Indians And Emigrants Encounters on the Overland Trails
Indians And Emigrants: Encounters on the Overland Trails By Michael L. Tate
2006 | 353 Pages | ISBN: 080613710X | PDF | 4 MB
In the first book to focus on relations between Indians and emigrants on the overland trails, Michael L. Tate shows that such encounters were far more often characterized by cooperation than by conflict. Having combed hundreds of unpublished sources and Indian oral traditions, Tate finds Indians and Anglo-Americans continuously trading goods and news with each other, and Indians providing various forms of assistance to overlanders. Despite thousands of mutually beneficial exchanges between whites and Indians between 1840 and 1870, the image of Plains Indians as the overland pioneers' worst enemies prevailed in American popular culture. In explaining the persistence of that stereotype, Tate seeks to dispel one of the West's oldest cultural misunderstandings.

India and the Multilateral Trading System Post-Doha: Defensive or Proactive? By Aaditya Mattoo and Arvind Subramanian ''Robert Stern, a world-class international economist, and Aaditya Mattoo, a most distinguished economist with WTO experience, are a dream team. They have produced a fully informed and invaluable set of essays on India's interests in the Doha Round issues. This excellent volume must be read by every Indian policymaker involved in the Doha trade negotiations.''--Jagdish Bhagwati, Professor, Columbia University ''India's trade policy establishment is perceived to be somewhat wary of multilateral engagement, even though India is implementing substantial economic and trade policy reforms. Some essays in this excellent and well-researched volume may throw light on this paradox. More important, the essays take a hard look at India's interests and concerns with respect to international trade. They suggest ways that India could deploy its domestic reform agenda in the Doha Round negotiations to secure concessions from its trading partners, while using multilateral engagement to reinforce the domestic reform process and enhance the process's credibility. The book should prove of considerable value to policymakers, market participants, and other stakeholders.''--B. K. Zutshi, Former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT)

Ibn Khaldûn's Philosophy of History A Study in the Philosophic Foundation of the Science of Culture
Muhsin Mahdi, "Ibn Khaldûn's Philosophy of History: A Study in the Philosophic Foundation of the Science of Culture "
English | ISBN: 1138947237 | 2015 | 327 pages | PDF | 16 MB
This book, first published in 1957, is the study of 14th-century Arab historian Ibn Khaldun, who founded a special science to consider history and culture, based on the philosophy of Plato and Aristotle and their Muslim followers. In no other field has the revolt of modern Western thought against traditional philosophy been so far-reaching in its consequences as in the field of history. Ibn Khaldun realized that history is more immediately related to action than political philosophy because it studies the actual state of man and society. He found that the ancients had not made history the object of an independent science, and thought it was important to fill this gap. A factual acquaintance with the conclusions of Ibn Khaldun's reflections on history is not the same as the full comprehension of their theoretical significance. When these fundamental questions are answered, it becomes possible to pose the specific question of the relation of Ibn Khaldun's philosophy of history, or his new science of culture, to other practical sciences and, particularly, to the art of history. After an exposition of the major trends of Islamic historiography, part of this book attempts to answer this question through the analysis of the method and intention of the sections of the 'History' where Ibn Khaldun himself examines the works of major Muslim historians, shows the necessity of the new science of culture, and distinguishes it from other practical sciences.
