Montaigne A Very Short Introduction
William M. Hamlin, "Montaigne: A Very Short Introduction"
English | 2020 | ISBN: 0190848774 | 168 pages | EPUB | 1.7 MB
The French author Michel de Montaigne is widely regarded as the founder and greatest practitioner of the personal essay. A member of the minor aristocracy, he worked as a judicial investigator, served as mayor of Bordeaux, and sought to bring stability to his war-torn country during the latter half of the sixteenth century. He is best known today, however, as the author of the Essays, a vast collection of meditations on topics ranging from love and sexuality to freedom, learning, doubt, self-scrutiny, and peace of mind. One of the most original books ever to emerge from Europe, Montaigne's masterpiece has been continuously and powerfully influential among writers and philosophers from its first appearance down to the present day. His extraordinary curiosity and discernment, combined with his ability to mix thoughtful judgment with revealing anecdote, make him one of the most readable of all writers.

Viscum Album has been used as a remedy for at least 2,000 years, nowadays predominantly in complementary cancer therapy. Despite an obvious discrepancy between the popularity of mistletoe extracts and their classification as a non-conventional treatment modality with unproven efficacy in oncology, mistletoe is one of the most widely used adjuvant treatments of neoplastic disorders, especially in German speaking areas.

Marathon The Crucial Battle That Created Western Democracy
Marathon: The Crucial Battle That Created Western Democracy By Alan Lloyd
2005 | 211 Pages | ISBN: 028563688X | PDF | 7 MB
This book serves as an excellent introduction to the battle of Marathon and the events leading up to it. First off, it should be noted that this is a popular history book. Therefore the depth that it goes into is rather limited. If you're looking for a detailed study of the battle then this book is going to be a massive disappointment for you. Most of the book is taken up with the events leading up to the battle. The battle itself only covers the last 15-20 pages. The first section is on the Ancient Greeks (Specifically the Athenians), the second covers the Persians, and the third covers the immediate prelude to the war. It covers all the main characters and establishes the cultures and societies that are clashing with a great deal of insight. The writing style in this book makes it a pleasure to read, and it would undoubtedly be an excellent book for people new to this time period. My biggest problem with this book is that it isn't longer.

Lothagam - The Dawn of Humanity in Eastern Africa
Lothagam - The Dawn of Humanity in Eastern Africa by Meave G. Leakey and John M. Harris
English | ISBN: 0231118708 | 2003 | PDF | 687 pages | 55,2 mb
Lothagam, located at the southwest corner of Lake Turkana in northern Kenya, represents one of the most important intervals in African prehistory. Early humans are restricted in distribution to Africa and their acquisition of an upright bipedal striding gait, the hallmark of humanity, appears to be at least circumstantially linked to the reduction of equatorial forests and the spread of grasslands on that continent.
