Exploiting the limits of law Swedish feminism and the challenge to pessimism
Exploiting the limits of law: Swedish feminism and the challenge to pessimism By Asa Gunnarsson, Eva-Maria Svensson, Margaret Davies
2007 | 244 Pages | ISBN: 0754649350 | PDF | 2 MB
Moving beyond the question of whether an area of scholarly investigation can truly be characterized as 'legal', "Exploiting the Limits of Law" combats the often unhelpful constraints of law's subject-matter and formal processes. Through a process of reflection on the limits of law and repeated efforts to redraw them, this book challenges the general sense of pessimism among feminists and others about the usefulness of law as an instrument of change. The work combines theoretical analysis of the law's boundaries with investigation of the practical settings for changing legal and policy environments. Both the empirical focus of this volume, and its underlying theoretical concern with the limits of the law and its gender implications, render it of interest to legal scholars throughout the world, whether of EU law, feminism, social policy or philosophy.

Evangelical Feminism and Biblical Truth An Analysis of More Than 100 Disputed Questions
Evangelical Feminism and Biblical Truth: An Analysis of More Than 100 Disputed Questions By Wayne Grudem
2004 | 866 Pages | ISBN: 157673840X | PDF | 8 MB
I placed an order for this book with Amazon.com one year ago. I have just started reading this book lately. We(my wife and I)think Miller, who wrote a review below, has not understood the contexts of each chapters and the related verses thru out the Bible. Even if he want to delete 1 Cor. 14:33-35 and 1 Timothy 2:11-15 from the bible, the same complementarian view does still very exists. We don't have anythings to say to brothers and sisters who hold the egalit. view. But we only want to pray for them and hope God will open their minds and hearts and will restore their understandings to the truth revealed and ordained by Him. As the previous oppossed evolutionist's view in the past century, now it has been more and more acceptted that we must have more than faith to believe in the evolution!!! God has placed several or hundreds of false teachings to test Christianinty and Church tru out the past centuries. We have to stand firmly on God Word, not waved by and on any philosophy and culture that usually changes as time passes in this sinful world. All we need is Wisdom from above. We can not understand why some people are holding the view of egalitarians. Everything in the bible all points to submission "hypotasso" and authority. We are equal as human beings especially as believers in Christ but at the same time we are obviously different from one another. Submission does not mean inferiority as some assume it to be. Submission is a special previledge as Christ Jesus to His Father. This is the absolute fact that everyone should appreciate. We are placed differently in roles and in variuos authorities in the real world. In the church Christ has placed someone in charge for taking care of His Body. All the biblical words and contexts point to Men to work as this office. We am very disappointed with egalit views that always insert too much of world wisdom that changed with time into God Word. We now start to pray for them for God to give them the divine wisdom from above. Egalitarians are destroying God's plans and wills by disobeying and violating His very Word. In the end we don't want to talk too much but a second after you and us die, you and us will surely know the truth. We hope Christ will forgive you who are the egalitarians while living in this sinful world. There is one truth not two in this subject. We confidently choose to stand on the plain reading of 1 Timothy 2:11-15 and including others passages (like 1 Corinth 11, 1 corinth 14, Ephesus 5, 1 Peter 3 to name a few!!!). We think we have not been wavering by the false teachings introduced by someone who call themselve biblical scholars!!!

European Fair Trading Law The Unfair Commercial Practices Directive
European Fair Trading Law: The Unfair Commercial Practices Directive By Geraint G. Howells, Hans-W Micklitz, Thomas Wilhelmsson, Geraint G. Howells, Hans-W Micklitz
2006 | 312 Pages | ISBN: 0754645894 | PDF | 2 MB
The Unfair Commercial Practices Directive is the most important directive in the field of trade practices to have emerged from the EC, but it builds upon European activity which has sought to regulate trade practices on both a sectoral and horizontal level. It is an umbrella provision, which uses general clauses to protect consumers. How effective this approach is and how it relates the existing acquis are fundamental issues for debate. This work provides a critical appraisal of the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive linking discussion of it to general debates about how fair trading should be regulated. It explains how the Directive fits into the existing acquis. It also examines national traditions where these are necessary to explain the European approach, as in the case of general clauses. The book will be a valuable tool for any student of consumer law seeking to understand the thinking behind the directive and how it will affect national laws. It will also influence policy makers by suggesting how the directive should be interpreted and what policy lies behind its formulation. Businesses and their advisers will use the book as a means of understanding the new regulatory climate post-the directive.

Essays on Being
Essays on Being By Charles H. Kahn
2009 | 236 Pages | ISBN: 0199534802 | PDF | 1 MB
This volume presents a series of essays published by Charles Kahn over a period of forty years, in which he seeks to explicate the ancient Greek concept of Being. He addresses two distinct but intimately related problems, one linguistic and one historical and philosophical. The linguistic problem concerns the theory of the Greek verb einai, "to be:: how to replace the conventional but misleading distinction between copula and existential verb with a more adequate theoretical account. The philosophical problem is in principle quite distinct: to understand how the concept of Being became the central topic in Greek philosophy from Parmenides to Aristotle. But these two problems converge on what Kahn calls the veridical use of einai. In the earlier papers he takes that connection between the verb and the concept of truth to be the key to the central role of Being in Greek philosophy. In the later papers he interprets the veridical in terms of a more general semantic function of the verb, which comprises the notions of existence and instantiation as well as truth.
