Desert Nature and Culture (Earth)
Desert: Nature and Culture (Earth) by Roslynn D. Haynes
English | December 15, 2013 | ISBN: 1780231695 | 248 pages | EPUB | 30 Mb
Sand. Cacti. Lizards. Mirages. Deserts call to mind exotic places, a sense of adventure and freedom, but also thirst and desolation. InDesert, Roslynn D. Haynes takes a fresh look at this geographical feature and cultural entity as it becomes an increasingly threatened environment.Considering the immense geographical diversity of deserts from the Sahara to Antarctica, Haynes explores the intriguing and often bizarre ways plants and animals adapt to such a hostile environment, as well as the diverse peoples that have inhabited deserts and evolved unique lifestyles and cultures in response to their surroundings. She asks why Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all originated in the deserts of the Middle East and traces the connections between the minimalism of desert existence and the pursuit of a spiritual dimension. Finally, she describes the allure deserts have exerted on the West, the significance of desolate landscapes in literature and film, and the revolution in artists' responses to the desert as an empty space and as an inspiration for new visual techniques with which to view it. Ending with a look at how commercial and military interests threaten desert ecologies,Desertcasts new light on our view of these seemingly barren places.

Desert Insurgency Archaeology, T. E. Lawrence, and the Arab Revolt
Desert Insurgency: Archaeology, T. E. Lawrence, and the Arab Revolt by Nicholas J. Saunders
2020 | ISBN: 0198722001 | English | 400 pages | PDF | 26 MB
In the desert sands of southern Jordan lies a once-hidden conflict landscape along the Hejaz Railway. Built at the beginning of the twentieth-century, this narrow-gauge 1,320 km track stretched from Damascus to Medina and served to facilitate participation in the annual Muslim Hajj to Mecca. The discovery and archaeological investigation of an unknown landscape of insurgency and counter-insurgency along this route tells a different story of the origins of modern guerrilla warfare, the exploits of T. E. Lawrence, Emir Feisal, and Bedouin warriors, and the dramatic events of the Arab Revolt of 1916-18. Ten years of research in this prehistoric terrain has revealed sites lost for almost 100 years: vast campsites occupied by railway builders; Ottoman Turkish machine-gun redoubts; Rolls Royce Armoured Car raiding camps; an ephemeral Royal Air Force desert aerodrome; as well as the actual site of the Hallat Ammar railway ambush. This unique and richly illustrated account from Nicholas Saunders tells, in intimate detail, the story of a seminal episode of the First World War and the reshaping of the Middle East that followed.

Democracy in the Developing World Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East
Democracy in the Developing World: Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East by Jeffrey Haynes
English | October 8, 2001 | ISBN: 0745621422 | 256 pages | AZW3 | 1.13 MB
Until the late 1980s, there were very few democratically elected governments in the developing world. These areas were characterized by a range of authoritarian regimes from military administrations to one-party dictatorships. Over the past decade, however, the situation has altered significantly and an increasing number of developing countries have made the transition to democracy. For some, this process of building and consolidating democracy has been relatively easy, while for others, it has proved more complex and harder to sustain.

Cyber Crime Investigator's Field Guide
Cyber Crime Investigator's Field Guide By Bruce Middleton
2002 | 330 Pages | ISBN: 0849311926 | PDF | 2 MB
I've heard Bruce Middleton speak at international security conferences before and followed some of the articles he has written in the past on information security so when I noticed that he had written a book on investigating computer security incidents (CyberForensics), I knew it would be a great book to have. I was not disappointed. This is definitely a book for professionals in this field (like he says...it's a field book...something you take to the field with you for reference). Someone new to the field would also get alot out of the book if they have access to the professional level software he uses throughout the book (outstanding software from Guidance Software [EnCase], NTI [their computer forensics tool suite] and AccessData [their FTK = Forensics ToolKit] ). Even if you don't have the software currently and you want to break into this field, it's a great book to buy due to the fact that he goes into detail explaing various process, procedures, methodologies, etc that firmly relate to solving computer related crimes. I also understand that he is holding hands-on training classes with this software and using this book as the foundation. Bottom line...this book is an excellent "must have" for a CyberForensics professional working in the field and a great read for those wishing to break into this field.
