He first came across Siskind's work whilst scouring the books shelves of the library where he worked and then a little later he found a perfect copy of Carl Chiarenza's monograph on Siskind 'Pleasures and Terrors' in a small bookshop at Hay-on-Wye.
The Fine Art of the Big Talk: How to Win Clients, Deliver Great Presentations, and Solve Conflicts at Work By Debra Fine 2008 | 251 Pages | ISBN: 1401302343 | PDF | 2 MB Fine covers a lot of ground, some of it well establised, some not: make sure your language is concrete and specific---praise an employee with the specifics of her conduct, not bar room generalties; deal with the issue at hand, and not the person; a good checklist on starting off a difficult conversation. Some of it is less obvious: tips on how to get a conversation back on track when the other wants to derail it; use the Asian way of looking at a person's business card---hold in both hands, look at it, and comment or ask a question on it; a good checklist on questions to ask prior to starting negotiations. I don't agree with her tips on asking for business as they apply to services(it is hard to close business when you are selling a service, as opposed to a widget; the best you can do is to say that you'd like to work with the prospect if a matter arises that you are suited for). I like her section on how to create "positive energy"---compliment people, show sincere interest in them, drop them a note or provide a tip that may be of use to them. All good stuff. She was launched on 3 October 1936 and completed in January 1939, armed with nine 28cm C/34 guns in three triple turrets. She operated with Gneisenau for much of the early portion of World War II, including sorties into the Atlantic to raid British merchant shipping. They took part in Operation Weserubung (April-June 1940), the German invasion of Norway, during which they sank the aircraft carrier HMS Glorious and her escort destroyers Acasta and Ardent. Scharnhorst also sank HMS Rawalpindi in November 1939. In early 1943, Scharnhorst joined the Tirpitz in Norway to intercept Allied convoys to the Soviet Union. On a sortie from Norway to attack a convoy, the German force was intercepted by British ships and during the Battle of the North Cape (26 December 1943), HMS Duke of York and her escorts sank Scharnhorst. Most of her crew was lost. The Art of Problem Posing By Stephen I. Brown, Marion I. Walter 2005 | 193 Pages | ISBN: 0805849769 | PDF | 12 MB The Art of Problem Posing is a great book. The authors provide a step by step method for learning about, and solving problems in, mathematics. The method is as follows:Level O:Choose a starting point ie a problem or a concept in mathLevel 1:Define the attributes of a problem or conceptLevel 2:Ask what if not for each concept.Level 3:Ask Questions about the results of 0 - 2.Level 4:Analyze (solve) the problemThe authors use fairly accessible math in the process of explaining their techniques, including the Pythagorean Theorem and a few other concepts that most people will know. I want to emphasize that this book is not just about problem posing; it also offers a technique for problem solving. The authors note that the two cannot really be completely separated. Technically-Write! By Ronald S. Blicq, Lisa Moretto 2004 | 428 Pages | ISBN: 0131148788 | PDF | 3 MB My trade is a technical writer. This was an assigned textbook for a college course and I continue to use it daily. I highly recommend this book. It is invaluable to refute a know-it-all that believes they are a professional editor. Although these know-it-all types do not trust your writing expertise, they cannot argue a technical writing resource manual. Technical Analysis: Power Tools for Active Investors By Gerald Appel 2005 | 265 Pages | ISBN: 0131479024 | PDF | 13 MB This is a good book to technical analysis. The value of the book in the four (4) modes of the market and his explanation of his MACD System. |
