Divided Sisters Bridging the Gap Between Black Women and White Women
Divided Sisters: Bridging the Gap Between Black Women and White Women By Wilson Midge, Russell-Cole Kathy
1996 | 333 Pages | ISBN: 0385473613 | PDF | 2 MB
Since the advent of the women's movement, women have often expressed the belief that Black and White women in society have a great many common concerns and are, in fact, natural allies and friends. The fact is that, as adults, relatively few women are close friends with a woman of another racial background. In DIVIDED SISTERS, Midge Wilson and Kathy Russell, the acclaimed co-authors (with Ronald Hall) of The Color Complex, tackle the nature of relationships between Black and White women, and explore how women from different racial backgrounds do, and don't get along. Hard-hitting and filled with first-person accounts and illuminating anecdotes, ultimately hopeful and yet supremely uncompromising in its examination of the way women interact, DIVIDED SISTERS is nothing less than a landmark book that will open readers' eyes to the realities and challenges of bridging what is too frequently an unbreachable cultural divide.

2013 | 87 Pages | ISBN: 1598151266 | PDF | 4 MB
Rediscovered in 1873, the Didache provides a glimpse of early Christian ritual and liturgy. It is the very first manual for Christian life. Here Clayton Jefford presents parallel translations of the original-language manuscripts - from Greek, Latin, Coptic, Ethiopic, and Georgian. His detailed introduction places the Didache in its historical context, and cross references and notes on sources enable in-depth study.

Deleuze And Guattari New Mappings in Politics, Philosophy, and Culture
Deleuze And Guattari: New Mappings in Politics, Philosophy, and Culture By Eleanor Kaufman and Kevin Jon Heller (eds.)
1998 | 317 Pages | ISBN: 0816630283 | PDF | 10 MB
A timely look at new domains in which to apply the ideas of these two key figures. Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari were two of France's most prominent thinkers, and they continue to be vital and influential in critical theory. The essays in this collection, written by prominent scholars, offer a new approach to their work. Unique in its emphasis on Guattari, both in conjunction with Deleuze and independently, this volume features an essay by Deleuze himself and includes a comprehensive bibliography of Guattari's and Deleuze's publications. The body of work explored here spans three decades and cuts across the lines of philosophy, political theory, geography, literature, aesthetics, and even the applied sciences. Readers unfamiliar with Deleuze and Guattari will gain a broad sense of their work from these pages; specialists will discover new and different methods of understanding the contributions of these writers. The essays map out a set of applications that, rather than explain Deleuze and Guattari, aim to extend and reinvent their thought in new and "real life" domains, from cinema to the Gulf War, from quantum mechanics to the L.A. riots, and from Israel's deportation of Palestinians to Jean-Jacques Rousseau's masochism. Overall, the collection demonstrates the wide range of potential applications of Deleuze's and Guattari's theories and expands current readings of their work.Contributors: Bernardo Alexander Attias, California State U; Jonathan L. Decolonising Governance Archipelagic Thinking
Paul Carter, "Decolonising Governance: Archipelagic Thinking "
English | ISBN: 0815380496 | 2018 | 252 pages | PDF | 6 MB
Power may be globalized, but Westphalian notions of sovereignty continue to determine political and legal arrangements domestically and internationally: global issues - the legacy of colonialism expressed in continuing human displacement and environmental destruction - are thus treated 'parochially' and ineffectually. Not designed for dealing with situations of interdependence, democratic institutions find themselves in crisis. Reform in this case is not simply operational but conceptual: political relationships need to be drawn differently; the cultural illiteracy that prevents the local knowledge invested in places made after their stories needs to be recognised as a major obstacle to decolonising governance.

Copying Early Christian Texts A Study of Scribal Practice
Copying Early Christian Texts: A Study of Scribal Practice By Alan Mugridge
2016 | 579 Pages | ISBN: 3161546881 | PDF | 3 MB
It is widely believed that the early Christians copied their texts themselves without a great deal of expertise, and that some copyists introduced changes to support their theological beliefs. In this volume, however, Alan Mugridge examines all of the extant Greek papyri bearing Christian literature up to the end of the 4th century, as well as several comparative groups of papyri, and concludes that, on the whole, Christian texts, like most literary texts in the Roman world, were copied by trained scribes. Professional Christian scribes probably became more common after the time of Constantine, but this study suggests that in the early centuries the copyists of Christian texts in Greek were normally trained scribes, Christian or not, who reproduced those texts as part of their trade and, while they made mistakes, copied them as accurately as any other texts they were called upon to copy.
