The Later Middle Ages (Short Oxford History of Europe)
The Later Middle Ages (Short Oxford History of Europe) edited by Isabella Lazzarini
English | June 29, 2021 | ISBN: 0198731647, 0198731639 | PDF | 319 pages | 4.6 MB
Of all the sub-periods in which European medieval history has been divided over time, the later middle ages is possibly the one on which the burden of past and current grand narratives weighs the most. Its chronological and geopolitical boundaries are shaped by a heavy narrative of decline or transition, and consequently this period is often interpreted through the lenses of previous or following developments, becoming in turn the tail-end of the 'feudal', 'communal', 'imperial versus papal' era or the announcement of modernity.

The First Second of the Universe A String Theory Approach
The First Second of the Universe: A String Theory Approach by Gerald W. Scanlon
English | January 29, 2017 | ISBN: 1542813328 | 75 pages | EPUB | 2.61 Mb
Have you ever wondered what happened during the first second of the universe? Gerald W. Scanlon takes you to the Alpha point where time and space were created. He shows the forces of the universe unfurling and creating particles on the invisible Higgs Field during the brief time period of the first second. The proposed model of creation presented in this book uses a string theory approach and shows the multidimensional universe that was created. Strings are shown to be the possible internal structure of quarks and electrons. Masses formed with strings, quarks, or electrons are shown to group together and form the first orbiting "planets". The detailed information needed to calculate their quantum gravity and acceleration is presented.

The Epistle of Forgiveness Volume One A Vision of Heaven and Hell
The Epistle of Forgiveness: Volume One: A Vision of Heaven and Hell By Abul 'Ala' Al-Ma'arri; Geert Jan Van Gelder; Gregor Schoeler
2013 | 464 Pages | ISBN: 0814763782 | PDF | 5 MB
One of the most unusual books in classical Arabic literature, The Epistle of Forgiveness is the lengthy reply by the prolific Syrian poet and prose writer Abu l-'Alaa al-Ma'arri (d. 449 H/1057 AD) to a letter written by an obscure grammarian, Ibn al-Qarih. With biting irony, The Epistle of Forgiveness mocks Ibn al-Qarih's hypocrisy and sycophancy by imagining he has died and arrived with some difficulty in Heaven, where he meets famous poets and philologists from the past. He also glimpses Hell, and converses with the Devil and various heretics. Al-Ma'arri--a maverick, a vegan, and often branded a heretic himself--seems to mock popular ideas about the Hereafter. This translation is the first complete translation in any language and retains the many digressions, difficult passages, and convoluted grammatical discussions of the original typically omitted in other translations. It is accompanied by extensive annotation and a comprehensive introduction.Geert Jan van Gelder studied Semitic Languages in Amsterdam and Leiden. He was Lecturer in Arabic at the University of Groningen (1975-1998) and Laudian Professor of Arabic at the University of Oxford (1998-2012). He has published numerous articles and several books on classical Arabic literature. Gregor Schoeler studied Arabic and Islamic Studies in Frankfurt am Main and Giessen (Germany). He was the chair of Islamic Studies at the University of Basel (1982-2009). He has published numerous articles and several books in the fields of Islamic Studies and classical Arabic literature.

The English Resistance The Underground War Against the Normans
The English Resistance: The Underground War Against the Normans By Peter Rex; Tempus Publishing
2004 | 224 Pages | ISBN: 0752428276 | EPUB | 2 MB
In 1066 the English were conquered by the infamous William the Conqueror. However, the English did not just roll over and die before their oppressors; far from it. For over five years the English violently rebelled against the invading Normans, murdering quislings, burning towns and sacking cathedrals. Peter Rex tells the story of each rebellion, their often colourful leaders (including Hereward the Wake, Edgar the Aetheling and Eadric the Wild) and the rebels themselves, whom the Normans called 'silvatici' or forest dwellers. He also considers William's attempts at pacifying the English, especially his notorious 'harrying' of the North, which amounted to genocide. For those who thought it was all over with King Harold's death, this book reinforces the view that the English are not so easily overcome.
