Self-Fulfilling Science
Self-Fulfilling Science
English | 2021 | ISBN: 3110746336 | 202 Pages | PDF | 1 MB
Claims that science may becoming 'self-fulfilling' through its impact on objects of study have recently risen to prominence. Despite radical statements about the supposed consequences of such accounts, however, the central notion of scientific self-fulfillment has remained obscure, leading to skewed views of its actual prevalence and significance. Self-Fulfilling Science illuminates this underexplored phenomenon, drawing on insights from philosophy of science to address questions of its conceptualization, prevalence, and significance. The book critically engages with the popular notion that economic theories of homo economicus exhibit self-fulfillment, and explores its relevance to various metaphysical, ethical, and epistemic issues. Extreme claims of fundamental incompatibility with our usual notions of scientific success are ill-founded. Instead, self-fulfillment's true epistemic significance lies in more local, nuanced philosophical issues such as theory evaluation and the thesis of underdetermination. In presenting a novel framework, this book facilitates deeper engagement with the developing field of self-fulfilling science, and is of interest to philosophers of science, social scientists, and social constructionists.

Security and Microservice Architecture on AWS
Security and Microservice Architecture on AWS
English | 2022 | ISBN: 9781098101466 | 510 Pages | EPUB | 19 MB
Security is usually an afterthought when organizations design microservices for cloud systems. Most companies today are exposed to potential security threats, but their responses are often more reactive than proactive. This leads to unnecessarily complicated systems that are hard to implement and even harder to manage and scale. Author Gaurav Raje shows you how to build highly secure systems on AWS without increasing overhead.

Science with the VLT in the ELT Era
Science with the VLT in the ELT Era by Alan F.M. Moorwood
English | PDF | 2009 | 474 Pages | ISBN : 1402091893 | 21.8 MB
The Workshop "Science with the VLT in the ELT Era" held in Garching from 8th to 12th October 2007 was organised by ESO, with support from its Scienti c and Technical Committee, to provide a forum for the astronomical community to debate the long term future of ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) and its interferometric mode (VLTI). In particular it was considered useful for future planning to evaluate how its science use may evolve over the next decade due to competition and/or synergy with new facilities such as ALMA, JWST and, hopefully, at least one next generation 30-40 m extremely large telescope whose acronym appears in the title to symbolise this wider context.

Reading Bohr Physics and Philosophy
Reading Bohr: Physics and Philosophy by Arkady Descriptionnitsky
English | PDF | 2006 | 238 Pages | ISBN : 1402052537 | 4.2 MB
This book offers a new perspective on Niels Bohr`s interpretation of quantum mechanics as complementarity, and on the relationships between physics and philosophy in Bohr`s work. The importance of quantum field theory for Bohr`s thinking has not been adequately addressed in the literature on Bohr. This book provides clarification of Bohr`s writings (which usually pose problems of reading), and an analysis of the role of quantum field theory in Bohr`s thinking.
