The Suicide Battalion [Audiobook]
English | ASIN: B09KSZD783 | 2021 | 7 hours and 49 minutes |MP3|M4B | 214 MB
The men of the 46th Canadian Infantry Battalion were some of the most effective shock troops of the Allied forces in the Great War. They drove back German forces wherever they met and refused ever to surrender. Such tactics struck fear in their enemies, yet it came at a tremendous cost. Of the 5374 officers and men who passed through the unit, a total of 4917, or 91 percent, were either killed or wounded. J. L. McWilliams and R. James Steel chart the history of this battalion from when it was formed on November 7, 1914 through all of its major battles, including the Somme, Vimy Ridge, Hill 70, Passchendaele, Amiens, the Hundred Days Offensive and breaking through the Hindenburg Line, to when it was finally disbanded at the end of the war. Rather than focus simply on the grand strategies of generals, McWilliams and Steel use numerous personal accounts, both written at the time and afterwards, to depict what life was life for the regular soldier of the 46th Battalion during these treacherous years spent in muddy trenches in France and Belgium.

The Strategy of Denial American Defense in an Age of Great Power Conflict [Audiobook]
English | ASIN: B09M56227T | 2021 | 13 hours and 51 minutes |MP3|M4B | 381 MB
Why and how America's defense strategy must change in light of China's power and ambition. Elbridge A. Colby was the lead architect of the 2018 National Defense Strategy, the most significant revision of US defense strategy in a generation. Here he lays out how America's defense must change to address China's growing power and ambition. Based firmly in the realist tradition but deeply engaged in current policy, this book offers a clear framework for what America's goals in confronting China must be, how its military strategy must change, and how it must prioritize these goals over its lesser interests. The most informed and in-depth reappraisal of America's defense strategy in decades, this book outlines a rigorous but practical approach, showing how the United States can prepare to win a war with China that we cannot afford to lose - precisely in order to deter that war from happening.

The Story of the Universe in 100 Stars [Audiobook]
English | ISBN: 9781649040978 | 2021 | 7 hours and 50 minutes |MP3|M4B | 216 MB
These 100 amazing stars shine a light on astronomy's greatest hits and their enduring impact on our culture. With roughly 100 billion stars in the Milky Way alone, the cosmos is simply too vast for an unabridged tell-all. But here's the next best thing: 100 stars-bright and faint, near and far, famous and obscure, long dead and as-yet unborn, red, yellow, blue, and white (but, as you'll learn, never green)-handpicked by astronomer Florian Freistetter because they have the very best stories to tell. Freistetter's short, easy-to-read profiles not only invite you to gaze into the past and future of the universe, they introduce a stellar cast of scientists who came before: from Annie Jump Cannon, who revolutionized how we classify the stars, to Dorrit Hoffleit, who first counted them. Enjoy your journey through the cosmos.
