Poset Codes Partial Orders, Metrics and Coding Theory
Poset Codes: Partial Orders, Metrics and Coding Theory by Marcelo Firer
English | EPUB | 2018 | 133 Pages | ISBN : 3319938207 | 6.5 MB
This book offers an organized and systematic approach to poset metrics and codes. Poset metrics, or metrics on a vector field determined by a partial order over a finite set, were first introduced in the mid-1990s by the mathematicians Richard A. Brualdi, Janine S. Graves and K. Mark Lawrence, and to date the relevant knowledge on this subject was spread over more than two hundred research papers. Poset metrics generalizes both the standard Hamming metric - the most important metric used in the context of coding theory - and the Niederreiter-Rosenbloom-Tsfasman metric, which is an ultrametric.Conceived to be as self-contained as possible, the book starts from basic concepts of coding theory and advances towards coding theory for poset metrics and generalizations. Each chapter includes a survey of the topic presented and a list of exercises, drawn in part from recently proven results. This work will appeal to researchers and graduate students alike, particularly those in the fields of Mathematics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, with an interest in discrete geometry and coding theory.

Participatory Governance and Cultural Development
Participatory Governance and Cultural Development: An Empirical Analysis of European Capitals of Culture
English | 2022 | ISBN: 3030816478 | 269 Pages | PDF | 5 MB
This book analyses the impact of participatory governance on cultural development, explaining why cultural participatory practices can lead to positive sustainable effects or to unexpected and controversial ones. It focuses on four projects realized in the two European Capitals of Culture of 2013 - Marseille-Provence (France) and Košice (Slovakia) - within the Programme 'Quartiers Créatifs' and the SPOTs Programme. By combining different strands of the Democratic Theory and applying the process tracing methodology, the book argues that participation produces cultural developmental processes only when a certain intensity of trust is reached among the various stakeholders. In the presence of fully-fledged trust, participation activates a reinforcing chain of capacity-building and social capital that nurture long-term cultural networks. On the contrary, in the absence of fully-fledged trust, participation can generate contestation movements or isolated cultural production. Uniquely, the book challenges the 'optimistic aura' of participatory governance of culture, showing its conflicting but always productive nature.

Papyri and the Social World of the New Testament
Sabine R. Huebner, "Papyri and the Social World of the New Testament"
English | 2019 | pages: 208 | ISBN: 1108455700, 1108470254 | PDF | 191,3 mb
In this book, Sabine R. Huebner explores the world of the protagonists of the New Testament and the early Christians using the rich papyrological evidence from Roman Egypt. This gives us unparalleled insights into the everyday lives of the non-elite population in an area quite similar to neighboring Judaea-Palestine. What were the daily concerns and difficulties experienced by a carpenter's family or by a shepherd looking after his flocks? How did the average man or woman experience a Roman census? What obstacles did women living in a patriarchal society face in private, in public, and in the early Church? Given the flight of Jesus' family into Egypt, how mobile were the lower classes, what was their understanding of geography, and what costs and dangers were associated with travel? This volume gives a better understanding of the structural, social, and cultural conditions under which figures from the New Testament lived.
