English | April 26, 2022 | ISBN: 1684512549 | True EPUB | 320 pages | 2.8 MB
Communism must kill what it cannot control. So for a century, it has killed artists, writers, musicians, and even dancers. It kills them secretly, using bioweapons and poison to escape accountability. Among its victims was Anna Pavlova, history's greatest dancer, who was said to have God-given wings and feet that never touched the ground. But she defied Stalin, and for that she had to die. Her sudden death in Paris in 1931 was a mystery until now.

The Consumer Revolution, 1650-1800
Michael Kwass, "The Consumer Revolution, 1650-1800 "
English | ISBN: 0521198704 | 2022 | 272 pages | PDF | 12 MB
The production, acquisition, and use of consumer goods defines our daily lives, and yet consumerism is seen as increasingly controversial. Movements for sustainable and ethical consumerism are gaining momentum alongside an awareness of how our choices in the marketplace can affect public issues. How did we get here? This volume advances a bold new interpretation of the 'consumer revolution' of the eighteenth century, when European elites, middling classes, and even certain labourers purchased unprecedented quantities of clothing, household goods, and colonial products. Michael Kwass adopts a global perspective that incorporates the expansion of European empires, the development of world trade, and the rise of plantation slavery in the Americas. Kwass analyses the emergence of Enlightenment material cultures, contentious philosophical debates on the morality of consumption, and new forms of consumer activism to offer a fresh interpretation of the politics of consumption in the age of abolitionism and the Atlantic Revolutions.

The Coldest Coast
The Coldest Coast: The 1873 Leigh Smith Expedition to Svalbard in the Diaries and Photographs of Herbert Chermside by P. J. Capelotti
English | PDF | 2021 | 315 Pages | ISBN : 3030678792 | 10.7 MB
This book describes the 1873 voyage of the British explorer Benjamin Leigh Smith, based on the diaries and photographs of Lieutenant Herbert C. Chermside, who joined the expedition of the seas around Svalbard. Chermside's photographs, long believed lost, have recently been uncovered in Sweden and are being curated there by the Grenna Museum. The three unpublished diaries of Herbert Chermside were lent to the Scott Polar Research Institute in 1939 by Mrs. Benjamin Leigh Smith. For the first time, Chermside's diaries are published in their entirety, with the original photographs shown alongside modern images of the same locations. This includes the first photographic record of the north coast of Svalbard, images that are today being used as comparative data for the study of climate change in the archipelago.

The Civil War in Maryland Reconsidered
The Civil War in Maryland Reconsidered (Conflicting Worlds: New Dimensions of the American Civil War) edited by Jean H. Baker, Charles W. Mitchell
English | November 10, 2021 | ISBN: 0807172898 | True PDF | 360 pages | 11.7 MB
The deeply researched and tightly written essays in this volume provide new information and insights on the role of a crucial border state in the Civil War. Fearing that the state might secede in 1861, the Lincoln administration and Unionist Marylanders―black as well as white―managed to prevent this outcome and to make an important contribution to ultimate Northern victory. The Civil War in Maryland Reconsidered helps us understand how and why this happened. - James M. McPherson, author of "Battle Cry of Freedom: The Civil War Era"

Research in statistics education is an emerging field, with much of the work being published in diverse journals across many disciplines. Locating and synthesizing this research is often a challenging task, as is connecting the research literature to practical issues of teaching and assessing students. This book is unique in that it collects, presents, and synthesizes cutting edge research on different aspects of statistical reasoning and applies this research to the teaching of statistics to students at all educational levels. Unlike other books on how to teach statistics, or educational materials to help students learn statistics, this book presents the research foundation on which teaching should be based. The chapters in this volume are written by the today's leading researchers in statistics education.
