Trolleys of the Capital District
Gino DiCarlo, "Trolleys of the Capital District"
English | 2009 | ISBN: 0738562610, 1531640621 | ASIN: B0099IS272 | EPUB | pages: 128 | 42.4 mb
When it came to first-class transportation, not many regions of North America had more to offer than the trolley lines of New York's Capital District. From their humble beginnings as horse roads forming belts around Albany, Schenectady, and Troy, these trolley lines helped move people around Upstate New York from the late 1800s until their final exit after World War II. The lines of the United Traction Company, Schenectady Railway, and the Hudson Valley Railway provided hundreds of miles of track around their home cities, as well as direct routes to resorts in the Adirondacks, Lake George, and Saratoga Springs. The trolley lines became famous for disasters that made national headlines, labor disputes, and engineering wonders that included the longest trolley bridge in the world. The vintage images in Trolleys of the Capital District provide insight into an era gone by and an often forgotten form of transportation.

Transporters in Drug Development Discovery, Optimization, Clinical Study and Regulation
Transporters in Drug Development: Discovery, Optimization, Clinical Study and Regulation By Bente Steffansen M.Sc.(Pharm), Ph.D. (auth.), Yuichi Sugiyama, Bente Steffansen (eds.)
2013 | 317 Pages | ISBN: 0120323079 | PDF | 6 MB
Transporters in Drug Development examines how membrane transporters can be dealt with in academic-industrial drug discovery and pharmaceutical development as well as from a regulatory perspective. The book describes methods and examples of in vitro characterization of single transporters in the intestines, liver and kidneys as well as characterization of substrate overlap between various transporters. Furthermore, probes and biomarkers are suggested for studies of the transporters' impact on the pharmacokinetics of drug substrates/candidates interacting on transporters. The challenges of translating in vitro observed interaction of transporters into in vivo relevance are explored, and the book highlights perspectives of applying targeted proteomics and mechanistic modeling in this process.

Towards a Design Flow for Reversible Logic
Towards a Design Flow for Reversible Logic by Robert Wille
English | PDF | 2010 | 192 Pages | ISBN : 9048195780 | 3.5 MB
The development of computing machines found great success in the last decades. But the ongoing miniaturization of integrated circuits will reach its limits in the near future. Shrinking transistor sizes and power dissipation are the major barriers in the development of smaller and more powerful circuits.

Toward Structural Mechanics Through Wooden Bridges in France (1716-1841)
Toward Structural Mechanics Through Wooden Bridges in France (1716-1841) By Chiara Tardini (auth.)
2014 | 87 Pages | ISBN: 3319002864 | PDF | 5 MB
Early applications of Navier's beam theory to the rational design of structures are documented in the Annales of the French Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées and refer to the design of three wooden bridges built in France in the 1840's. Revisiting these examples, the book provides documentation on the progressive establishment of the new design approach, based on the theory of structural mechanics rather than empirical knowledge. The bridges concerned were built according to the structural scheme patented by Ithiel Town in the USA, witnessing the diffusion in Europe of the American advancements in bridge design, circulated by the travel reports of French engineers from the Ecole. Through the exam of French treatises discussing the progress of theoretical formulations in parallel with experimental findings in the 18th and 19th centuries, the book retraces as well the long path which led to the formulation of Navier's theory. The relevant scientific debate dealt mainly with the specific case of wood bridges; the text outlines a brief history of bridges built in the Alpine area at the time, based on unpublished iconographic materials from various European archives.
