Institutional Legacies, Decision Frames and Political Violence in Rwanda and Burundi
Stacey M. Mitchell, "Institutional Legacies, Decision Frames and Political Violence in Rwanda and Burundi "
English | ISBN: 1138579432 | 2018 | 234 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Rwanda and Burundi are strikingly similar countries that underwent democratization in the early 1990s. In both, resistance to democratic reforms led to coups d'état and presidential assassinations. A conundrum arises in terms of what transpires next. In Rwanda, total genocide was perpetrated by extremist Hutu actors, including government officials, upon the country's Tutsi and politically moderate Hutu populations. In Burundi the coup d'état failed and instead ushered in a lengthy period of civil war. This divergence in outcome is puzzling given the similarity of these two countries, and it is not adequately explained by studies that address collective violence in each.

Inspection of Metals Understanding the Basics
F. C. Campbell, "Inspection of Metals: Understanding the Basics"
English | 2013 | pages: 582 | ISBN: 1627080007 | PDF | 9,8 mb
This book covers the technology of inpsection of metals, the main emphasis on final part inspection at the manufacturing facility or on receipt at the user's facility. The unique feature of this book is that it provides an intermediate level introduction to the different methods used to inspect metals and finished parts and a more detailed review of the specific inspection methods for important metal product forms. The book is divided into two parts: Part I gives the basics of the most important methods used for inspection and testing, while Part II covers the types of methods used to inspect different classes of metallic parts. The advantages and limitations of each method are discussed, including when other methods may be warranted. In particular, the chapters on specific product forms (e.g., castings) compare the different inspection methods and why they are used.

Inseparable Desire Between Women in Literature
Emma Donoghue, "Inseparable: Desire Between Women in Literature"
English | 2011 | ISBN: 157344717X, 0307270947 | 273 pages | EPUB | 3.5 MB
Emma Donoghue examines how desire between women in English literature has been portrayed, from schoolgirls and vampires to runaway wives, from cross-dressing knights to contemporary murder stories. She looks at the work of those writers who have addressed the "unspeakable subject," examining whether same-sex desire is freakish or omnipresent, holy or evil, as she excavates a long-obscured tradition of (inseparable) friendship between women, one that is surprisingly central to our cultural history. Donoghue explores the writing of Sade, Balzac, Hardy, Wilkie, Sayers, Highsmith and more to reveal the half-dozen contrasting girl-girl Descriptions that have been told and retold over the centuries; the paranormal identities assigned to women who desire other women; the ubiquity of same-sex attraction in crime fiction; and the contemporary narratives of coming out privately and publicly. Inseparable is a revelation of a centuries-old literary tradition - brilliant, amusing, and until now, deliberately overlooked.

Immigrant Women
Rita James Simon, "Immigrant Women"
English | ISBN: 1138525766 | 2018 | 128 pages | EPUB | 5 MB
The obstacles to assimilation and treatment of immigrant women are major issues confronting the leading immigrant-receiving nations today-the United States, Canada, and Australia. This volume provides a range of perspectives on the concerns, the sources of problems, how issues might be addressed, and the future of immigrant women. It is based upon a two-part issue of the journal Gender Issues, and contains a new introduction by the editor. The first section focuses on labor force experiences of women who have immigrated to the United States and Australia from Mexico and Latin America, Eastern Europe, Korea, the Philippines, India and other parts of Asia. Nancy Foner assesses the complex and contradictory ways that migration changes women's status. Cynthia Crawford focuses on Mexican and Salvadoran women who have recently moved into janitorial work in Los Angeles. M.D.R. Evans and Tatjiana Lucik analyze labor force participation of immigrants in Australia and family strategies of women migrants from the former Yugoslavia against the experiences of woman migrants from the Mediterranean world and other parts of the Slavic world. Economist Harriet Duleep reviews what is known as the family investment model. Monica Boyd tackles the controversial issue of the leading immigrant-receiving nations' unwillingness to declare gender an explicit ground for persecution and thus for gaining -refugee status. The second section deals with social class and English language acquisition, the obstacles women have had to overcome in gaining refugee status in the United States and Canada, and a comparison of movement patterns between different commentaries in Mexico and the United States on the part of Mexican male and female immigrants. Contributors include Suzanne M. Sinke, Katharine Donato, and Nina Toren. Immigrant Women will be valuable to researchers in women's studies, population demographics, as well as those teaching courses in sociology, history, and immigration. Rita James Simon is university professor in the School of Public Affairs at the Washington College of Law at American University. She is editor of Gender Issues and author of The American Jury, The Insanity Defense: A Critical Assessment of Law and Policy in the Post-Hinckley Era (with David Aaronson), Adoption, Race, and Identity (with Howard Altstein), In the Golden Land: A Century of Russian and Soviet Jewish Immigration, Social Science Data and Supreme Court Decisions (with -Rosemary Erickson), and Abortion: Statutes, Policies, and Public Attitudes the World Over.

I Did It My Life After Megabucks
John Tippin, Lance Tominaga, "I Did It: My Life After Megabucks"
English | 2001 | ISBN: 0971168210 | ASIN: B002HWSWV8 | EPUB | pages: 151 | 0.3 mb
This is the true story of one person's life (mine) after winning the World's Record Megabucks Slot Jackpot of nearly 12 million dollars in Las Vegas in 1996. It is in story form, but it historically describes life after five years of winning the "Big One." It covers the ups, the downs; the financial woes, the loss of friends, the isolation, the paranoia, etc., of what happens to one's life after instant wealth. Although an entertaining story, it is intended to be a textbook of sorts for those that win (or dream of winning) the big one. It should prepare them for what's ahead for them. It includes an 8 page pictorial of the "good life." It is the author's observation that this story has never been told from the eyes of one who has lived it.
