Diversity of Capitalism in Central and Eastern Europe: Dependent Economies and Monetary Regimes English | 2022 | ISBN: 3031049497 | 168 Pages | PDF (True) | 4 MB This book explores the hypothesis of the emergence of a 'dependent capitalism' in Central and Eastern Europe. In a first theoretical part, this book presents the main approaches that structure the field of comparative capitalism and then examines this model shaped by the inflow of foreign capital. In an original way, it proposes to integrate the form of the monetary regime into the dependent capitalism analysis and to extend it to Balkan countries. The monetary regime is seen as complementary to the other elements of the institutional configuration of dependent capitalism.
Tea Sindbæk Andersen, "Disputed Memory: Emotions and Memory Politics in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe " English | ISBN: 3110437635 | 2016 | 390 pages | EPUB | 5 MB The world wars, genocides and extremist ideologies of the 20th century are remembered very differently across Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, resulting sometimes in fierce memory disputes. This book investigates the complexity and contention of the layers of memory of the troubled 20th century in the region. Written by an international group of scholars from a diversity of disciplines, the chapters approach memory disputes in methodologically innovative ways, studying representations and negotiations of disputed pasts in different media, including monuments, museum exhibitions, individual and political discourse and electronic social media. Analyzing memory disputes in various local, national and transnational contexts, the chapters demonstrate the political power and social impact of painful and disputed memories. The book brings new insights into current memory disputes in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe. It contributes to the understanding of processes of memory transmission and negotiation across borders and cultures in Europe, emphasizing the interconnectedness of memory with emotions, mediation and politics.

Ban van Heur, "Disclosing Elite Ecologies: Methodologies For "Doing" Urban Elite Research" English | ISBN: 0367696754 | 2021 | 160 pages | EPUB | 5 MB Disclosing elite ecologies: Methodologies for "Doing" Urban Elite Research offers a set of methodologies to chart urban elites. Whereas most research has focused on the global super-rich, this book pays specific attention to the multidimensional urban geographies of elite reproduction and transformation, as elites depend on urban contexts for capital accumulation, consumption and leisure, and housing.
Directional Statistics for Innovative Applications: A Bicentennial Tribute to Florence Nightingale by Ashis SenGupta English | EPUB | 2022 | 487 Pages | ISBN : 981191043X | 63.4 MB In commemoration of the bicentennial of the birth of the "lady who gave the rose diagram to us", this special contributed book pays a statistical tribute to Florence Nightingale. This book presents recent phenomenal developments, both in rigorous theory as well as in emerging methods, for applications in directional statistics, in 25 chapters with contributions from 65 renowned researchers from 25 countries. With the advent of modern techniques in statistical paradigms and statistical machine learning, directional statistics has become an indispensable tool.
Randi Solhjell, "Dimensions of African Statehood: Everyday Governance and Provision of Public Goods " English | ISBN: 113861579X | 2019 | 138 pages | EPUB | 2 MB This book argues that the way in which we use the concept of "state" in many African countries must involve a deeper engagement of the complex workings of state-society relations, rather than a master narrative of European state formation. Differential Heterogenesis: Mutant Forms, Sensitive Bodies English | 2022 | ISBN: 303097796X | 227 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 64 MB This book describes about unlike usual differential dynamics common in mathematical physics, heterogenesis is based on the assemblage of differential constraints that are different from point to point. The construction of differential assemblages will be introduced in the present study from the mathematical point of view, outlining the heterogeneity of the differential constraints and of the associated phase spaces, that are continuously changing in space and time. If homogeneous constraints well describe a form of swarm intelligence or crowd behaviour, it reduces dynamics to automatisms, by excluding any form of imaginative and creative aspect. With this study we aim to problematize the procedure of homogeneization that is dominant in life and social science and to outline the dynamical heterogeneity of life and its affective, semiotic, social, historical aspects. Particularly, the use of sub-Riemannian geometry instead of Riemannian one allows to introduce disjointed and autonomous areas in the virtual plane. Our purpose is to free up the dynamic becoming from any form of unitary and totalizing symmetry and to develop forms, action, thought by means of proliferation, juxtaposition, and disjunction devices. After stating the concept of differential heterogenesis with the language of contemporary mathematics, we will face the problem of the emergence of the semiotic function, recalling the limitation of classical approaches (Hjelmslev, Saussure, Husserl) and proposing a possible genesis of it from the heterogenetic flow previously defined. We consider the conditions under which this process can be polarized to constitute different planes of Content (C) and Expression (E), each one equipped with its own formed substances. A possible (but not unique) process of polarization is constructed by means of spectral analysis, that is introduced to individuate E/C planes and their evolution. The heterogenetic flow, solution of differential assemblages, gives rise to forms that are projected onto the planes, offering a first referring system for the flow, that constitutes a first degree of semiosis.

Dickens Companions (3-volume Set) by Andrew Sanders, Susan Shatto English | 2022 | ISBN: 1032052759 | 774 Pages | True PDF | 20 MB Pernille Rieker, "Dialogue and Conflict Resolution: Potential and Limits" English | ISBN: 1472438833 | 2015 | 246 pages | EPUB | 1407 KB Dialogue is typically hailed as a progressive force fostering mutual understanding and resolving conflicts. Can it really carry such a burden? Does dialogue really resolve conflicts? In this unique volume international experts critically assess the political role of dialogue, addressing its potential and limitations. Bringing fascinating insights to bear they examine the theoretical underpinnings and conceptual boundaries of dialogue as a tool for conflict resolution. Major recent crises such as the Russo-Georgian war in 2008, the conflict between Western powers and Gaddafi's Libya, arguments over Iran's nuclear programme, religious tensions in Egypt after the Arab Spring, the Afghan case, the Sudanese experience and the recent Russo-Ukraine conflict are all considered and the conflict resolution attempts discussed. Using these cases the contributors explore in depth the nature of the dialogue between the actors, the extent to which it worked and what determined its impact. |
