The Long War CENTCOM, Grand Strategy, and Global Security
John Morrissey, "The Long War: CENTCOM, Grand Strategy, and Global Security "
English | ISBN: 0820351040 | 2017 | 168 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Nowhere has the U.S. military established more bases, lost more troops, or spent more money in the last thirty years than in the Middle East and Central Asia. These regions fall under the purview of United States Central Command (CENTCOM); not coincidentally, they include the most energy-rich places on earth. From its inception, CENTCOM was tasked with the military and economic security of this key strategic area, the safeguarding of commercial opportunities therein, and ultimately the policing of a pivotal yet precarious space in the broader global economy. CENTCOM calls this mission its "Long War." This book tells the story of that long war: a war underpinned by a range of entangled geopolitical and geoeconomic visions and involving the use of the most devastating Western interventionary violence of our time.

The Life and Death of the Solid South A Political History
Dewey W. Grantham, "The Life and Death of the Solid South: A Political History "
English | ISBN: 0813108136 | | 272 pages | EPUB | 1280 KB
Southern-style politics was one of those peculiar institutions that differentiated the South from other American regions. This system―long referred to as the Solid South―embodied a distinctive regional culture and was perpetuated through an undemocratic distribution of power and a structure based on disfranchisement, malapportioned legislatures, and one-party politics. It was the mechanism that determined who would govern in the states and localities, and in national politics it was the means through which the South's politicians defended their region's special interests and political autonomy. The history of this remarkable institution can be traced in the gradual rise, long persistence, and ultimate decline of the Democratic Party dominance in the land below the Potomac and the Ohio.

The Korean Government and Public Policies in a Development Nexus, Volume 1
The Korean Government and Public Policies in a Development Nexus, Volume 1 By Huck-ju Kwon, Min Gyo Koo (auth.), Huck-ju Kwon, Min Gyo Koo (eds.)
2014 | 136 Pages | ISBN: 3319010972 | PDF | 2 MB
In the postwar period, Korea's economic and social-political metamorphosis is a rare example of a successful transition from one of the world's poorest developing countries to a highly sophisticated industrial society-an experience which many developing countries are keen to emulate. The change is particularly significant as Korea was able to reduce poverty and keep social inequality at a modest level during its rapid economic development. This volume analyzes the Korean transition in regards to the political and institutional foundation of its government and public policies. The government of Korea single-mindedly carried out public policies to stimulate economic growth, but the government and public policies have themselves been affected and changed by the process. The contention of this volume is that the transition of Korean society and the evolution of the Korean government are the results of two-way interactions. In this context, the volume analyzes the way in which the dynamics of public administration were shaped within the Korean government and the kinds of public policies and instruments that were adopted to encourage this economic and social development. This analysis will allow a more complete understanding of the economic and social transformation of Korea. Surprisingly, there is a paucity of research on this aspect-a gap which this volume seeks to fill. This volume shows that it is necessary to maintain consistency and coherence in government and public policy in order to achieve economic and social transformation, making it of interest to both scholars and policy-makers concerned with development in the Asia-Pacific.

The Humanity of Christ The Significance of the Anhypostasis and Enhypostasis in Karl Barth's Christology
James P. Haley, "The Humanity of Christ: The Significance of the Anhypostasis and Enhypostasis in Karl Barth's Christology "
English | ISBN: 1532614152 | 2017 | 338 pages | PDF | 1248 KB
This work is a critical analysis of Karl Barth's unique adoption of the concepts anhypostasis and enhypostasis to explain Christ's human nature in union with the Logos, which becomes the ontological foundation that Barth uses to explain Jesus Christ as very God and very man. The significance of these concepts in Barth's Christology first emerges in the Gottingen Dogmatics and is then more fully developed throughout the Church Dogmatics. Barth's unique coupling together of anhypostasis and enhypostasis provides the ontological grounding, flexibility, and precision that so uniquely characterizes his Christology. As such, Barth expresses the Word became flesh as the revelation of God that flows out of the coalescence of Christ's human nature with his divine nature as the mediation of reconciliation. This ontological dynamic provides the impetus for Barth's critique of Chalcedon's static definition of the union of divine and human natures in Christ from which Barth transitions to an active definition of these two natures. Not only does anhypostasis and enhypostasis explain the dynamic union between the divine and human natures in Christ, but also the dynamic union between Jesus Christ and his Church, which reaches its apex in the reconciliation of humanity with God, in Christ. The ontological foundation of anhypostasis and enhypostasis in Christ's union with his Church explains the importance of the royal man in understanding genuine human nature, the exaltation of human nature, and the sanctification of human nature.

The Hologram Feminist, Peer-to-Peer Health for a Post-Pandemic Future
Cassie Thornton, "The Hologram: Feminist, Peer-to-Peer Health for a Post-Pandemic Future "
English | ISBN: 0745343325 | 2020 | 96 pages | EPUB | 1346 KB
In an era when capitalism leaves so many to suffer and to die, with neoliberal 'self-care' offering little more than a bandaid, how can we take health and care back into our hands? In The Hologram, Cassie Thornton puts forward a bold vision for revolutionary care: a viral, peer-to-peer feminist health network. The premise is simple: three people - a 'triangle' - meet on a regular basis, digitally or in person, to focus on the physical, mental and social health of a fourth - the 'hologram'. The hologram, in turn, teaches their caregivers how to give and also receive care; each member of their triangle becomes a hologram for another, different triangle, and so the system expands. Drawing on radical models developed in the Greek solidarity clinics during a decade of crisis, and directly engaging with discussions around mutual aid and the coronavirus pandemic, The Hologram develops the skills and relationships we desperately need for the anti-capitalist struggles of the present, and the post-capitalist society of the future. One part art, one part activism, one part science fiction, this book offers the reader a guide to establishing a Hologram network as well as reflections on this cooperative work in progress.
