How to Market the Arts A Practical Approach for the 21st Century
English | 2022 | ISBN: 0197556078 | 277 pages | True EPUB | 5.98 MB
Conventional business marketing often suggests that the primary function of business is to market a product in order to maximize efficiency and profit. In How to Market the Arts: A Practical Approach for the 21st Century, expert authors Anthony Rhine and Jay Pension propose a new paradigm to better explain how nonprofit arts marketing can and should work.
How to Market the Arts provides a history of both nonprofit arts and critical marketing concepts to show how standard methods of marketing are ill-suited for the nonprofit arts industry. Through visual models and case studies of several arts organizations, the book offers instead a practical look at how this industry might adopt more holistic marketing strategies that better reflect their true function which is often to serve communities over persuading consumers. Rhine and Pension offer a theoretical framework for reconsidering the nature of nonprofit arts marking, as well as useful steps an organization might take to increase its value to a community and develop a broader audience base.

Headache and Facial Pain (What Do I Do Now), 2nd Edition
English | 2022 | ISBN: 019084213X | 233 pages | True PDF EPUB | 8.16 MB
In this new edition of Headache and Facial Pain in the "What Do I Do Now?" series, the authors have added cases dealing with issues that were not included in the first edition, eliminated several chapters that were no longer topical or in which recommendations were not current, and updated the rest. The book continues to simulate the "curbside consultation" in our selection of 37 cases about headache and facial pain. Each "case" poses an important question to be discussed and each are addressed, much as a consultant would do over the phone or in the hallway, using current evidence and experienced-based information.
We have divided this volume into four sections that cover the typical ground for head/face pain consultation: Section 1, Diagnostic Questions; Section 2, Treatment Questions; Section 3, Questions Related to Special Populations; and Section 4 Prognostic, Social, and Legal Issues. Diagnostic reasoning is presented along the lines of the International Classification of Headache Disorder s, third edition (ICHD-III). Additionally, recommendations for adding or modifying new treatment modalities (pharmacologic and devices) that have been approved since publication of the first edition have been incorporated based on updates from the AHS consensus statement. A list of key clinical points again appears at the end of each case discussion, followed by a list of suggested articles or chapters for those interested in doing further reading on the subject.

Greco-Roman Medicine and What It Can Teach Us Today
English | 2022 | ISBN: 1526752875 | 217 pages | True EPUB | 45.06 MB
"There can be little doubt that the Romans experienced many of the illnesses that are still encountered today, and individuals have always had to decide how best to deal with their health-related concerns. The Roman Empire was an amalgam of many cultures, often with dissimilar ideas and beliefs. The Greek impact on health was particularly dominant and, therefore, this book focuses on Greco-Roman medicine as it was practised during the Pax Romana, the period between the accession of Augustus and the death of Marcus Aurelius. Drawing on ancient literature supplemented with evidence from archaeology, paleopathology, epigraphy and numismatics the Greco-Roman medical context is carefully examined. A particular focus is on the effectiveness of approaches to both preventing and treating a range of physical and psychological problems. Detailed consideration is also given to the ancient technical and hygienic achievements in addition to the place of healers within Roman society. Uniquely, within each chapter, the author draws on his own clinical and public health experience, combined with modern research findings, in assessing the continuing relevance of Greco-Roman medicine. For example, Galen`s focus on access to fresh air, movement, sensible eating and getting sufficient sleep matter as much today as they did in the past. Our classical forebears can also assist us in determining the best balances between prevention and treatment, centralised control and individual responsibility, as well as the most appropriate uses of technology, drugs and surgery. Some ancient pharmaceutical compounds are already showing promise in treating infections. In addition, practising Stoicism and getting some locotherapy should be considered by anyone struggling to cope with the stresses and strains of modern life."

Fusion-Fission Hybrid Nuclear Reactors For enhanced nuclear fuel utilization and radioactive waste reduction
English | 2022 | ISBN: 1839536519, 978-1839536519 | 296 pages | True PDF | 22.38 MB
Nuclear energy is contributing to the long-term solution to stave off climate change. However, current nuclear fission technology accesses only about 1-3% of the nuclear energy content of natural uranium, which is inefficient, and also creates a radioactive waste disposal problem.
Combining nuclear fission technology with emerging nuclear fusion technology to create a fusion-fission hybrid would yield extra fusion neutrons to 1) convert much more of the uranium into fissionable material, which would increase efficient utilization of the nuclear fuel resource, and 2) significantly reduce (by fission) the most long-lived radioactive nuclear waste.

Functional Exercise Prescription Supporting rehabilitation in movement and sport
English | 2022 | ISBN: 1912085488 | 265 pages | True PDF EPUB | 32.05 MB
In Functional Exercise Prescription, Eyal Lederman presents a revolutionary new approach for exercise prescription that uses the individual's own movement repertoire. The book demonstrates how daily activities (the life gym) can be amplified to provide the necessary movement challenges to support movement rehabilitation in many musculoskeletal and pain conditions. Hence, all activities can become remedial without the need to prescribe unfamiliar exercise; in other words, 'how to exercise without exercise' or 'how to rehabilitate without exercise'.
People recover from most musculoskeletal and pain conditions through three key processes: repair, adaptation, and alleviation of symptoms. The author explains how to identify the individual's recovery process and how to select the appropriate daily or sporting activities, and, how they can be modified to support recovery.

From War to Peace The Conversion of Naval Vessels After Two World Wars
English | 2021 | ISBN: 1399009583 | 178 pages | True PDF EPUB | 19.79 MB
From War to Peace tells the story of the adaptation from White Ensign to Red Ensign, and to flags of other nations, of the numerous classes of naval ships mainly built during the two world wars and surplus to requirements with the advent of peace. It also describes ships sourced from the United States Navy and elsewhere that were converted for commercial use.
The most successful classes to transfer to the merchant service were the Hunt-class minesweepers of the Great War, Landing Craft, Tank, the salvage tugs of World War Two, and the wooden-hulled Fairmile launches which became familiar at seaside resorts in the 1950s and '60s; and, of course, the MFV classes that helped the fishing industry in the postwar years. The story includes the successful commercial conversions of many of the Flower and Castle Class corvettes and River Class frigates, notably the 1954 conversion of HMCS Stormont to a luxury yacht for the Greek shipping magnate Onassis. It describes why HMS Charybdis became a passenger liner in the Great War, and how HMS Albatross nearly became a luxury liner after World War Two, but in fact was transformed into a very unpopular emigrant ship and ended her days as a floating casino based at Cape Town.
