Political Spaces and Global War
Political Spaces and Global War By Carlo Galli, Adam Sitze (editor), Elisabeth Fay (transl.)
2010 | 304 Pages | ISBN: 0816665958 | PDF | 22 MB
Political theorists have long debated whether globalization marks a novel form of political and economic order or is simply a reconfiguration of older capitalist and imperialist imperatives. Carlo Galli contends that it is neither; rather, globalization is the development, in a new and destructive direction, of the unstable and precarious equilibrium that constituted modern political space from its very inception. The first book by Galli, the influential Italian historian of political thought, to be translated into English, Political Spaces and Global War offers a provocative genealogy of the global age. By connecting the foundations of classical and modern political thought to the concrete arrangements of geographical space that inform those concepts, Galli reveals globalization to be, qualitatively and quantitatively, an extreme torsion of modern political space. Central to Galli's understanding of the fundamental instability of modern political space is that warfare, usually seen as a breakdown in the prevailing order, can no longer be distinguished from politics-globalization is, in effect, a world of war.Tracing the concept of political space from Greek and Roman philosophy to the post-9/11 period, Galli shows that the modern nation-state, in theory and practice, contains within it the conditions for both its own implosion (into totalitarianism) and explosion (as globalization). To move beyond this crisis, he argues, the logic of modern political space and the national boundaries that define it must be boldly reimagined.

Political Myth-making, Nationalist Resistance and Populist Performance
Political Myth-making, Nationalist Resistance and Populist Performance
English | 2022 | ISBN: 9781003217671 | 200 pages | True PDF | 2.73 MB
Using the socio-political discourse of Kwame Nkrumah, a pioneering Pan-Africanist and Ghana's independence leader, Nartey investigates the notion of political myth-making in a context underexplored in the literature. He examines Nkrumah's construction of a myth described in the book as the Unite or Perish myth (i.e. the idea of a 'United States of Africa' being a prerequisite for the survival of Africa in the post-independence period), exploring the rhetorical resources he deployed, categorizing and analyzing key tropes and metaphors, and setting out the myth's basic components.

2016 | 166 Pages | ISBN: 1138188107 | PDF | 1 MB
Since independence in 1957, Malaysia has become a globally-recognised industrial trading partner. With a 60% Muslim population, it also enjoys the reputation of being a moderate and peaceful nation. However, with just a short time left to realising its Vision 2020 of developed nationhood, the pathway of nation building still seems ambiguous. There is a brewing tension in its race and ethnic relations which has permeated the various fronts, namely politics, society, economics and education. This book analyses the education policies that have been formulated and implemented in Malaysia since independence. It demonstrates how these policy enactments have influenced the nation's growth and transformation, and the challenges faced in creating a model of equity and multicultural co-existence among its racially and ethnically diversified people. Shedding light on these issues, it points towards the major mending that is needed for Malaysia to become a truly developed nation. Chapters include: Education of ethnic minorities in Malaysia: Contesting issues in a multiethnic society Access and equity issues in Malaysian higher education Graduate employability in government discourse: A critical perspective This comprehensive book is a case study on Malaysia that will supplement researchers and advance students in their understanding of a multi-racial society's perspective and attitude towards education.
