![]() Heart of the Cross: A Postcolonial Christology By Wonhee Anne Joh 2006 | 192 Pages | ISBN: 0664230636 | PDF | 6 MB Theologies have often pointed to the cross as a place of suffering and sacrifice, while feminist critiques have frequently argued against interpretations of the cross as patriarchal valorizing of suffering. Wonhee Anne Joh points toward a new interpretation of the cross as a place of love, where God and humanity come together in a surprising way. Interpreting the cross as performing a double gesture that has a subversive effect, Joh argues that the cross works simultaneously to pay homage to and to menace complex oppressive powers. Utilizing the Korean concept of jeong, Joh constructs a theology that is feminist, political and love-centered, while acknowledging the cross as source of pain and suffering. Joh's innovative vision is a call for political love that is stronger than powers of oppression. ![]() Erik Raymond, "He Is Not Ashamed: The Staggering Love of Christ for His People" English | ISBN: 1433579340 | 2022 | 176 pages | EPUB | 578 KB Why a Holy God Delights to Claim Broken People as His Family ![]() Handbook of Research on Practices and Outcomes in Virtual Worlds and Environments (2vol) By Steve Chi-Yin Yuen (editor), Harrison Hao Yang (editor) 2011 | 840 Pages | ISBN: 1609607627 | PDF | 14 MB Researchers and educators are increasingly interested in how virtual worlds allow users to interact, play, learn, do business, share, and collaborate in an online environment. Supplements) By Albert I Baumgarten (editor), Hanan Eshel (editor), Ranon Katzoff (editor), Shani Tzoref (editor) 2011 | 304 Pages | ISBN: 3525550170 | PDF | 16 MB This volume contains the proceedings of the conference entitled Halakhah in Light of Epigraphy held on 29 May, 2008 under the auspices of the David and Jemima Jeselsohn Center for Epigraphy at Bar-Ilan University. Epigraphic finds, here interpreted broadly to include papyri, scrolls, and the like, have immeasurably enriched our knowledge of the ancient Jewish past while at the same time posing a challenge to modern scholarship: how does one integrate old knowledge, based on previously known sources, with new information? We now recognize that Rabbinic texts are normative: they tell us how their authors believed life should be lived, rather than the details of ordinary, everyday, experience. What weight, then, should be given to traditional halakhic texts in evaluating the contents of newly discovered written remains? And what light can be shed by these new finds, especially those inscriptions and documents that record small moments of ancient Jewish life, upon the long-familiar normative texts? The conference on Halakhah in Light of Epigraphy was intended to generate discussion on these broad issues, as well as to provide a forum for exploration of specific matters of Halakhah reflected in the epigraphic sources. The papers in this volume tend to emphasize the centrality of Halakhah in ancient Judaism. The first section of the volume is devoted to Halakhah in the Dead Sea Scrolls, with contributions by Moshe Benovitz, Vered Noam, Eyal Regev, Lawrence Schiffman, and Aharon Shemesh. These papers examine diversity in halakhic positions, in terms of both exegesis and practice (e.g., festival rituals, dietary laws, and sexual relationships), exploring evidence of halakhic development over the course of the Second Temple period, and halakhic variety among different groups. The second section relates to quotidian documents, and contains Hanan Eshel's survey of the legal documents found in the refuge caves; Steven Fraade's examination of the parnas; Shamma Friedman's analysis of the Jewish bill of divorce; and David Goodblatt's discussion of dating formulae. The final section of the volume examines a variety of epigraphic sources, and includes the following articles: Yonatan Adler on tefillin; Chaim Ben David on synagogue inscriptions; Tal Ilan on burial practices; Ze'ev Safrai and Hannah Safrai on an early Christian text; and Guy Stiebel on food at Masada. ![]() Haitian Immigrants in Black America: A Sociological and Sociolinguistic Portrait By Flore Zéphir 1996 | 200 Pages | ISBN: 0897894510 | PDF | 40 MB Written by a member of the Black Haitian community, this book brings to life the mechanisms that shape Haitian immigrant identity and underscores the complexity of such an identity. Zephir explains why Haitians define themselves as a distinct ethnic group and examines the various parameters of Haitian ethnicity. Through hundreds of interviews, the author gathered the voices of Haitians as they speak, as they feel, and most importantly, how they experience America and its system of racial classification. This work is a description of the diversity of the Black population in America and an effort to dispel the myth of a monolithic minority or sidestream culture. ![]() HIV/AIDS in India: Voices from the Margins By Sunita Manian 2017 | 204 Pages | ISBN: 1138630519 | PDF | 2 MB India ranks third in the number of people living with HIV/AIDS globally. The country has high levels of poverty and inequality, poor healthcare infrastructure, especially away from the metropolitan areas, and a legacy of colonialism that bequeathed laws criminalizing non-heteronormative sexualities. These factors mean that many minority groups do not receive adequate access to preventative and treatment programs. This book explores the HIV/AIDS epidemic in India. Based on research in Tamil Nadu, it presents experiences of those marginalized by their sexuality and/ or gender, their struggles and their triumphs. Based on interviews with male and female sex-workers, men who have sex with men, aravanis (male to female transgenders) and HIV positive women―groups usually not included in the policy-making by Indian government agencies, international donors and international NGOs―the author uses an interdisciplinary approach. The approach highlights the historical and cultural context, while providing contemporary narratives. The book thus presents a deeper, multi-dimensional, understanding of the context of the disease and comprehends the roots of the stigma and discrimination that exacerbate the epidemic. An important study of the global HIV/AIDS epidemic, this book will be of interest to researchers in the field of South Asian Studies, Sexuality and Gender Studies, Health Sciences and Public Health. ![]() Guidebook for the Young Officer By LTC Frank J Caravella 2014 | 174 Pages | ISBN: 0983174555 | PDF | 91 MB Guidebook for the Young Officer is LTC (R) Frank Caravella's little red book of Army Leadership secrets.
