Supernova (The MIT Press Essential Knowledge series) (True PDF)
English | 2022 | ISBN: 0262543141 | 250 pages | True PDF | 10.5 MB
A concise illustrated introduction to the history and physics of supernovae, the brilliant explosions of stars; with striking color illustrations.
Supernovae are the explosions of stars. They are some of the most energetic phenomena in the Universe, rivaling the combined light of billions of stars. Supernovae have been studied for centuries, and they have also made appearances in popular culture: a glimpse of a supernova in a painting provides Sherlock Holmes with a crucial clue, for example. In this volume in the MIT Press Essential Knowledge series, astrophysicist Or Graur offers a concise and accessible introduction to these awe-inspiring astronomical phenomena.

Superinsulators, Bose Metals and High-Tc Superconductors The Quantum Physics of Emergent Magnetic Monopoles
English | 2022 | ISBN: 9811250952 | 249 pages | True PDF EPUB | 27.77 MB
In 1931 Dirac showed that topologically quantized single magnetic charges, magnetic monopoles, while classically forbidden in a gauge theory, are allowed alongside electric charges in a quantum theory of electromagnetism. Such topological magnetic excitations are indeed admitted in the spectrum of most grand unified field theories of elementary interactions. Despite 40 years of dedicated search efforts, nonetheless, they have never shown up in any experiment. This, however, does not preclude the possibility of topological magnetic monopoles being realized as excitations in emergent condensed matter states, where they would be much lighter and easier to create. This book is about the physical effects of such emergent magnetic monopoles. These range from a new mechanism for local, strong pairing of electrons possibly relevant for high-T superconductivity, to the formation of a new quantum phase of matter when monopoles condense. In such a condensate the electric interaction becomes extremely strong, so much so that only extended neutral states survive, with the consequence of an infinite resistance, even at finite temperatures. This state, called a superinsulator, is a dual superconductor and has been experimentally detected in various materials. In a superinsulator the electric interaction becomes analogous to the strong interaction holding quarks together in colour-neutral hadrons. Even more interesting is the case when the condensate carries both magnetic and electric charge. The ensuing state has properties that are strikingly reminiscent of the mysterious pseudogap state of high-T superconductors. Magnetic monopoles might thus have been hiding in plain sight where no one was looking for them for a long time.

Sun's Dance of the Channels Understanding Channel Interactions and Holography
English | 2023 | ISBN: 1839972238 | 250 pages | True PDF EPUB | 52.06 MB
When the train comes to a stop a new adventure would begin. Sun was returning to their grandparents for another summer. Expectations were high. They wanted to explore how the channels and the acupuncture points on them worked.
Written in an accessible, story-telling format in the context of a child, Sun, visiting their grandparents and having lessons over afternoon tea, this book targets practitioners looking to go beyond the foundations to acquire a deeper understanding of Chinese medicine theory, philosophy, and concepts. This is the second book in the series and focuses on distal needling techniques and Unified Acupuncture Theory as well as Dr Richard Tan's Balance Method, Master Tung acupuncture and Japanese Manaka acupuncture styles. Along with an overview of the theoretical basis for holography, it also presents a logical explanation of the channel interaction systems and covers how they can be applied in practice.

Subpixel mapping is a technology that generates a fine resolution land cover map from coarse resolution fractional images by predicting the spatial locations of different land cover classes at the subpixel scale. This book provides readers with a complete overview of subpixel image processing methods, basic principles, and different subpixel mapping techniques based on single or multi-shift remote sensing images. Step-by-step procedures, experimental contents, and result analyses are explained clearly at the end of each chapter. Real-life applications are a great resource for understanding how and where to use subpixel mapping when dealing with different remote sensing imaging data.
This book will be of interest to undergraduate and graduate students, majoring in remote sensing, surveying, mapping, and signal and information processing in universities and colleges, and it can also be used by professionals and researchers at different levels in related fields.

Style from the Nile Egyptomania in Fashion From the 19th Century to the Present Day (True PDF)
English | 2022 | ISBN: 1399098071 | 266 pages | True PDF | 96.59 MB
In November 1922, the combined efforts of Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon revealed to the world the 'wonderful things' buried in Tutankhamen's tomb, Egypt had already been a source for new trends in fashion for quite some time: in the early 19th century, for example, Napoleon's Egyptian campaign contributed to the popularization of Kashmir shawls, while the inauguration of the Suez Canal in 1869 stimulated 'Egyptianizing' trends in gowns, jewellery and textiles.
Post-1922, a veritable Egyptomania craze invested all artistic fields, quickly becoming a dominant Art Deco motif: "flapper-style" dresses were elaborately embroidered with beaded "Egyptian" patterns, evening bags were decorated with hieroglyphics, brooches nonchalantly sported ancient scarabs, and the sleek black bobs favored by the admired icons of the time, Louise Brooks and Clara Bow, looked up to the fabled Egyptian beauty of Nefertiti and Cleopatra.
