Sharing the Light: Representations of Women and Virtue in Early China By Lisa Ann Raphals 1998 | 348 Pages | ISBN: 0791438554 | PDF | 20 MB Explores historical and philosophical shifts in the depiction of women and virtue in the early years of the Chinese state. Includes an examination of the history of yin-yang theories. Sharing the Light explores historical and philosophical shifts in the depiction of women and virtue in the early centuries of the Chinese state. These changes had far-reaching effects on both the treatment of women in Chinese society and on the formation of Chinese philosophical discourse on ethics, cosmology, epistemology, and self-cultivation. Warring States and Han dynasty narratives frequently represented women as intellectually adroit, politically astute, and ethically virtuous; these histories, discourses, and life stories portray women as active participants within their own society, not inert victims of it. The women depicted resembled sages, ministers, and generals as the mainstays and destroyers of dynasties. These stories emphasized that sagacity, intellect, strategy, and statecraft were virtues proper to women, an emphasis that effectively disappeared from later collections and instruction texts by and for women. During the same period, there were also important changes in the understanding of two polarities that delineated what now is called gender. Han correlative cosmology included a range of hierarchical analogies between yin and yang and men and women, and the understanding of yin and yang shifted from complementarity toward hierarchy. Similarly, the doctrine of separate spheres (inner and outer, nei-wai) shifted from a notion of appropriate distinction between men and women toward physical, social, and intellectual separation and isolation. Paul Fischer, "Self-Cultivation in Early China " English | ISBN: 1438488335 | 2022 | 342 pages | PDF | 3 MB Self-Cultivation in Early China is an introduction to multiple aspects of the foundational practice of self-cultivation in early China (c.1000 to 100 BCE). Drawing on the Chinese classics and the dozens of scholars' texts (both received and excavated) that together form the basis of intellectual history for China and all of East Asia, the book's analysis relies on the topics and categories that were central to the thought of these authors, including such well-known thinkers as Confucius and Laozi. This book describes a salient point of view from which we may consider the broader landscape of Chinese intellectual history and presents an important paradigm of the scholarly Chinese worldview that is ideal for comparison with paradigms in other communities, ancient or modern, across the globe. Gerard Manley Hopkins, Bob Blaisdell, "Selected Poems of Gerard Manley Hopkins" English | 2011 | ISBN: 048647867X | EPUB | pages: 128 | 0.3 mb Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844-1889) was a Jesuit priest whose poetry combined an awareness of material sensuousness with the asceticism of religious devotion. His collected poems, published posthumously in 1918, exercised a profound influence on modern poetry. This volume features all of Hopkins's mature work, offering a sampler of the poet's striking originality, intellectual depth, and perceptive vision. Professor Mohamed K. Kamara Ph.D., "Securing Critical Infrastructures" English | ISBN: 1796093882 | 2020 | 224 pages | EPUB | 2 MB This book explains the modern techniques required to protect a cyber security critical infrastructure. Three fundamental techniques are presented, namely: network access control, physical access control, encryption and decryption techniques. Dr. Kamara had won two awards for community building in higher education and is an author of two other books: The Implications of Internet Usage, 2013 The Impacts of Cognitive Theory on Human and Computer Science Development, 2016 Secure Multi-Party Computation Against Passive Adversaries English | 2022 | ISBN: 3031121635 | 238 Pages | PDF (True) | 12 MB This book focuses on multi-party computation (MPC) protocols in the passive corruption model (also known as the semi-honest or honest-but-curious model). The authorspresent seminal possibility and feasibility results in this model and includes formalsecurity proofs. Even though the passive corruption model may seem very weak, achieving security against such a benign form of adversary turns out to be non-trivialand demands sophisticated and highly advanced techniques. MPC is a fundamentalconcept, both in cryptography as well as distributed computing. On a very high level, an MPC protocol allows a set of mutually-distrusting parties with their privateinputs to jointly and securely perform any computation on their inputs. Examples ofsuch computation include, but not limited to, privacy-preserving data mining; securee-auction; private set-intersection; and privacy-preserving machine learning. MPCprotocols emulate the role of an imaginary, centralized trusted third party (TTP) thatcollects the inputs of the parties, performs the desired computation, and publishes theresult. Due to its powerful abstraction, the MPC problem has been widely studied overthe last four decades.
