Interdisciplinarity and Languages Current Issues in Research, Teaching, Professional Applications and ICT
Interdisciplinarity and Languages: Current Issues in Research, Teaching, Professional Applications and ICT By Francisca Antonia Suau Jiménez (editor), Barry Pennock Speck (editor)
2011 | 218 Pages | ISBN: 3034302835 | PDF | 8 MB
This volume offers a state-of-the-art view of research into interdisciplinarity, language and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by providing an overview of teaching proposals within a university context. Interdisciplinarity is understood here as how language expresses the discourse and lexis of specialised knowledge in science, technology and the professions. Language helps in the creation of these different fields and constitutes a strategic tool that, if harnessed correctly, will facilitate competitiveness on an international level in order to boost technological, scientific, economic and educational growth. Interdisciplinarity, language and ICTs should be taken into account to address the real needs of industry, commerce and translation in educational institutions and the professions. The contributions in this volume address themes that are crucial to the demands of modern society: intercultural business communications, one of the most challenging areas of specialised discourse and commerce; ICT and specialised translation, a current issue of the utmost relevance; terminology applied to translation; language acquisition in virtual environments; training interpreters through ICT; exploring the commercial needs of language industries; corpus-based research and ICT applications in specialised dictionaries; university e-learning courses; and the state of research on specialised languages in Latin America.

Interaction of Derivational Morphology and Syntax in Japanese and English
Yoko Sugioka, "Interaction of Derivational Morphology and Syntax in Japanese and English"
English | 2020 | ISBN: 036700187X, 0367001748 | PDF | pages: 259 | 13.8 mb
Originally published in 1986, this book discusses how the proper boundary between the lexicon and syntax should be defined and examines various word formation processes in Japanese and English which involve some interaction of morphology and syntax. It also questions the plausibility of the lexicalist hypothesis as a theory of universal grammar. It proposes a rule typology approach to the syntax/lexicon dichotomy and looks at deverbal nominals and compounds in English and Japanese and discusses their similarities and differences. In particular the important role argument structure plays in morphological derivations is analysed.

Institutions under Siege
Institutions under Siege: Donald Trump's Attack on the Deep State
English | 2023 | ISBN: 100917018X | 277 Pages | PDF | 3 MB
Much of the research on institutional change shows how systems shift slowly and incrementally. Yet, in the case of former President Donald Trump, change was rapid and radical. In Institutions Under Siege, leading political sociologist John L. Campbell offers new insights for understanding the legacy of the Trump presidency. The book examines Trump's attack on the 'deep state' through the lens of institutional change theory, and demonstrates how he capitalized on tipping points and distinct leadership tactics to inspire, make deals with, and threaten people to get what he wanted. The book also assesses where the damage caused by the Trump administration is most likely to endure and where long-lasting damage was prevented. Sharp and insightful, Institutions Under Siege contrasts existing social science literature to draw attention to the unique significance of tipping points and the characteristics of particular leaders.
