Western Empires, Christianity and the Inequalities between the West and the Rest
Sampie Terreblanche, "Western Empires, Christianity and the Inequalities between the West and the Rest"
English | 2014 | pages: 580 | ASIN: B06XDPM8RQ | PDF | 5,6 mb
The acute problem of inequality in the world was brought centre stage by the sensational appearance of French economist Thomas Piketty's bestselling book Capital in the Twenty-first Century. In Western Empires, Christianity, and the Inequalities between the West and the Rest 1500-2010, Sampie Terreblanche studies the matter from a political economic perspective, and brings five centuries of global history to bear in his focus on global, as opposed to internal national, inequalities. The unprecedented accumulation of wealth in the Western world has come at a dire cost to the Restern world (a term the author coins), and empire-building is at the root of it. The last 500 years have seen successive epochs of empire followed by war and systemic chaos. During this time, the "haves" of world history have systematically channeled global resources towards the West through cunning and conquest - a process in which Christian missionary societies played a key role as the soft avant-garde, followed by the hardware. The book deals with several concepts of empire, and the forces through which empires have been rolled out through history: arms, money, ideology, religion. What fed into the Eurocentrism and notion of superiority which paved the way for a lamentable history of slavery, exploitation and the unremitting accumulation of wealth and power? The book shows how clearly dangerous a world we live in, with the scales as precipitously tipped as they are. Ten years in the writing, and in many ways the apex of this decorated author's life work, Western Empires is a book for everyone who wishes to understand, or address, the extreme concentration of wealth in the hands of the global few and the hopeless poverty of the many.

We Can Overcome An American Black Conservative Manifesto
Allen B. West, "We Can Overcome: An American Black Conservative Manifesto"
English | ISBN: 1612544339 | 2020 | 224 pages | EPUB | 4 MB
Something has happened to the black community. Over the past decades, black America stopped believing that ''we shall overcome.'' Instead, they began accepting handouts from the government, turning away from the values of family, selfless military service, and business ownership that have been pillars of black America from the beginning. Progressive socialism has bound them in what amounts to economic enslavement.

Vitruvian Man Rome under Construction
John Oksanish, "Vitruvian Man: Rome under Construction"
English | 2019 | pages: 265 | ISBN: 0190696982 | PDF | 4,0 mb
Professionalism is political. This book offers a new assessment of the Roman architect Vitruvius and his treatise, On Architecture, dedicated to Augustus in the 20s BCE. Once reviled by scholars, Vitruvius emerges as an imperial expert par excellence when read alongside literary coevals through an intertextual lens. No building of Vitruvius' name survives from antiquity, but his treatise remains a formidable literary construction that partakes of Rome's vibrant textual culture. The book explores Vitruvius' portrait of the ideal architect as an imposing "Vitruvian man" at the dawn of Augustus' empire. In direct dialogue with his republican model, Cicero's ideal orator, the architect embodies a distinctly imperial civic ethos in which technically skilled partisans supersede old elites as guarantors of Augustan authority. Vitruvius promises to shape not only the emperor's legacy with architecture, but also the notion of a Roman citizen through his ideal architect.

Using Narrative Inquiry as a Research Method An Introduction to Critical Event Narrative Analysis in Research, Teaching and Pr
Using Narrative Inquiry as a Research Method: An Introduction to Critical Event Narrative Analysis in Research, Teaching and Professional Practice By Patricie Mertova, Leonard Webster
2019 | 154 Pages | ISBN: 1138354791 | PDF | 2 MB
Using Narrative Inquiry as a Research Method is the ideal introduction to a growing field of study. A full and accessible guide that covers the theory and practical applications of this qualitative method, it provides researchers with a rich framework through which they can investigate the ways people experience the world depicted through their stories. Looking at how this method can effectively be applied in a range of contexts, it demonstrates the value and utility of employing narrative as a research tool in a range of teaching and learning settings. Connecting with the broader academic debate on the value of narrative as an alternative or addition to quantitative and other qualitative methods and updated to reflect changes in the field, this book explores how to use narrative inquiry and gives tested and applied examples; builds on theory to consider practical applications; explores the narrative cross-boundaries between research and practice; and presents a selection of case studies of research on quality in higher education, internationalisation and quality in cross-cultural contexts. Using Narrative Inquiry as a Research Method provides the ideal grounding for all students and researchers looking to learn more about narrative inquiry or use this method within their research.

Trusts and Private Wealth Management
Trusts and Private Wealth Management: Developments and Directions
English | 2023 | ISBN: 1316518027 | 343 Pages | PDF | 2.4 MB
There has been insufficient literature focusing on the world-changing rise of Asian wealth. Private wealth in Asia is very substantial, with 33 per cent of the global population of high-net-worth individuals based in Asia. Yet, there is a dearth of legal analysis of Asian wealth, particularly by texts written in English. This collection aims to fill that gap, with chapters on legal issues in relation to Asian wealth transmission, investments in international real estate, familial disputes, family offices and private trust companies. A substantive section of this book also focuses on the changing legal context with chapters exploring trusts and cryptoassets, constructive trust, trustee's discretion and decision-making, changing regulatory environment and abuse of trust structures. This collection of essays on trusts and wealth management presents a focus on Asian wealth and the changing legal context, and follows the related publication, Trusts and Modern Wealth Management (Cambridge University Press, 2018).
