One Man's War
Richard Beale, "One Man's War"
English | ISBN: 1844863336 | 2015 | pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Actor Richard Beale was a young officer in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. In the summer of 2014, he sat down to write a memoir of that time, now more than 70 years ago. The result is an engaging and often humorous account of his wartime service in the Royal Navy, from just prior to joining up until his demobilisation and subsequent return to civilian life. During his naval career, Richard rose from a humble rating to become commander of a series of coastal patrol craft, the last of which was HMS ML 135, sailing one from the UK to Malta and latterly covering the Royal Navy's campaign in Greek and Croatian waters, including minesweeping duties. His story includes accounts of a number of key engagements, including one in which he was badly wounded, and encounters with Greek bandits and British spies. But it is not simply a naval memoir, as he also recalls memories of love affairs, special friendships and the enduring companionship of his beloved spaniel, Simon, who accompanied him in the initial stages of his career.

On Track Searching out the Bundian Way
John Blay, "On Track: Searching out the Bundian Way"
English | ISBN: 1742234445 | 2015 | 376 pages | EPUB | 7 MB
On Track tells the story of John Blay's long-distance search for the Bundian Way, an important Aboriginal pathway between Mt Kosciuszko and Twofold Bay near Eden on the New South Wales far south coast. The 360-kilometre route traverses some of the nation's most remarkable landscapes, from the highest place on the continent to the ocean. This epic bushwalking story uncovers the history, country and rediscovery of this significant track. Now heritage-listed, and thanks to the work of Blay and local Indigenous communities, the Bundian Way is set to be one of the great Australian walks.

Number Theory A Very Short Introduction
Number Theory: A Very Short Introduction by Robin Wilson
English | August 1, 2020 | ISBN: 0198798091 | 176 pages | PDF | 7.93 Mb
Number theory is the branch of mathematics that is primarily concerned with the counting numbers. Of particular importance are the prime numbers, the 'building blocks' of our number system. The subject is an old one, dating back over two millennia to the ancient Greeks, and for many years has been studied for its intrinsic beauty and elegance, not least because several of its challenges are so easy to state that everyone can understand them, and yet no-one has ever been able to resolve them.

Norwich Castle Excavations and Historical Survey 1987-98. Part IV People and Property in the Documentary Record
Margot Tillyard, Elizabeth Shepherd Popescu, Nancy Ives, "Norwich Castle: Excavations and Historical Survey 1987-98. Part IV People and Property in the Documentary Record"
English | 2009 | ISBN: 0905594517 | PDF | pages: 64 | 1.2 mb
In the 1980s work began on construction of the vast underground Castle Mall shopping centre in Norwich. The associated archaeological excavation was one of the largest of its kind in northern Europe, designed to investigate not only the castle bailey but also pre-Conquest settlement and, for the post-Conquest period, areas of the surrounding medieval city. Documentary evidence that supplements the substantial data presented in the monograph (parts I and II) forms Part IV (EAA occasional paper 23), published separately because of the scale of the data and because it forms a rounded resource in its own right. It provides additional data on medieval and later properties around the entire circuit of the Castle Fee, permitting ease of access to information that might otherwise have been obscured within the complexity of the integrated monograph.

Norwich Castle Excavations and Historical Survey 1987-98. Part III A Zooarchaeological Study
Mark Beech, Julie Curl, Umberto Albarella, "Norwich Castle: Excavations and Historical Survey 1987-98. Part III A Zooarchaeological Study"
English | 2009 | ISBN: 0905594509 | PDF | pages: 190 | 38.9 mb
In the 1980s work began on construction of the vast underground Castle Mall shopping centre in Norwich. The associated archaeological excavation was one of the largest of its kind in northern Europe, designed to investigate not only the castle bailey but also pre-Conquest settlement and, for the post-Conquest period, areas of the surrounding medieval city. Although Parts I and II both contain summary accounts of the faunal remains, setting them into their wider context and including additional information on craft activities, the scale of the data made publication of a separate and more specialised report on the faunal remains desirable and this is published here as Part III.

Norwich Castle Excavations and Historical Survey 1987-98. Part I Anglo-Saxon to c.1345
Elizabeth Shepherd Popescu, "Norwich Castle: Excavations and Historical Survey 1987-98. Part I Anglo-Saxon to c.1345"
English | 2009 | ISBN: 0905594487 | PDF | pages: 576 | 57.4 mb
In the 1980s work began on construction of the vast underground Castle Mall shopping centre in Norwich. The associated archaeological excavation was one of the largest of its kind in northern Europe, designed to investigate not only the castle bailey but also pre-Conquest settlement and, for the post-Conquest period, areas of the surrounding medieval city. The report describes evidence for late Saxon streets, houses and graveyards; the developing fortifications of an urban castle established before 1100; gradual encroachment by the townspeople into the castle precinct after the 13th century; documentation relating to the ownership and development of properties within the Castle Fee; crafts and industries associated with these Descriptions - notably bell-founding; a late medieval assemblage of great significance from the barbican well including ironwork, leather waste, bird and animal bone; and sizeable finds assemblages resulting from the steady infilling of castle ditches with domestic and commercial refuse. A CD contains additional appendices, illustrations and tables for these two volumes as well as Part III: A Zooarchaeological Study, and Part IV: People and Property in the Documentary Record. Parts III and IV are also available in printed form as EAA Occasional Papers 22 and 23.
