Comics Studies Here and Now
Comics Studies Here and Now By Frederick Luis Aldama (editor)
2018 | 364 Pages | ISBN: 1138498971 | PDF | 13 MB
Comics Studies Here and Now marks the arrival of comics studies scholarship that no longer feels the need to justify itself within or against other fields of study. The essays herein move us forward, some in their re-diggings into comics history and others by analyzing comics―and all its transmedial and fan-fictional offshoots―on its own terms. Comics Studies stakes the flag of our arrival―the arrival of comics studies as a full-fledged discipline that today and tomorrow excavates, examines, discusses, and analyzes all aspects that make up the resplendent planetary republic of comics. This collection of scholarly essays is a testament to the fact that comic book studies have come into their own as an academic discipline; simply and powerfully moving comic studies forward with their critical excavations and theoretical formulas based on the common sense understanding that comics add to the world as unique, transformative cultural phenomena.

Colloquial Expressions in Greek Tragedy Revised and Enlarged Edition of P.t. Stevens's Colloquial Expressions in Euripides
Christopher Collard, "Colloquial Expressions in Greek Tragedy: Revised and Enlarged Edition of P.t. Stevens's Colloquial Expressions in Euripides"
English | 2018 | ISBN: 3515120556 | PDF | pages: 257 | 1.3 mb
Stevens began identifying and collecting colloquialisms in Tragedy in 1937, refined his definitions in 1945 and finished his work with the monograph upon Euripides of 1976. This revised and enlarged edition assesses the contribution to the field by subsequent scholars. It adds many expressions to Stevens's list, which is now divided into two categories: expressions that are confidently identified as colloquial, and almost as many that are probable or possible. An unexpected finding is that Sophocles used hardly fewer such expressions than Euripides. The book's chief aim is to broaden the evidential basis for colloquialisms in Tragedy, and to attempt a more useful evaluation of their usage: statistics are gathered on their distribution and location, and their frequent concentration in types of dramatic and stylistic context. Many individual passages, and the possible use of colloquialisms for characterization, are discussed. The book includes full indices locorum for expressions and usages.
