Soviet Russian Dialectical Materialism [Diamat]
Free Download Soviet Russian Dialectical Materialism [Diamat] By J.E. Blakeley; Nicolas Sollohub
2011 | 193 Pages | ISBN: 9401036314 | PDF | 9 MB
This book offers a critical outline of the sources of the history, of the spirit and of the doctrines of present-day Soviet Russian Dialectical Materialism ('Diamat'), i.e. of the philosophical foundations of Marxism Leninism. It is scarcely necessary to stress the usefulness of a short outline of this kind, as Russian sources are not easily accessible in the West and as it is of considerable interest to know the doctrines which make up the faith of the Communists in all countries. The material for this book was first made public in a series of lectures at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), first in French in the summer term of 1949, later in English at the Summer School in the same year. The French text, slightly expanded, was translated into German by Miss M. Hoerkens, Dipl. rer. pol. Various imperfections in the wording of the text and in the bibliography can be explained by the process of formation of this book. The author hopes that such imperfections will not prove disturbing.Józef Maria Bocheński (Czuszów, Congress Poland, Russian Empire, 30 August 1902 - 8 February 1995, Fribourg, Switzerland) was a Polish Dominican, logician and philosopher.

English | ISBN: 0253041244 | 2019 | 196 pages | EPUB | 669 KB
As Irish republicans sought to rid the country of British rule and influence in the early 20th century, a clear delineation was made between what was "authentically" Irish and what was considered to be English influence. As a member of the Anglo-Irish elite who inhabited a precarious identity somewhere in between, R. M. Smyllie found himself having to navigate the painful experience of being made to feel an outsider in his own homeland. Smyllie's role as an influential editor of the

Slave Owners of West Africa Decision Making in the Age of Abolition
Free Download Sandra E. Greene, "Slave Owners of West Africa: Decision Making in the Age of Abolition"
English | ISBN: 0253025974 | 2017 | 138 pages | EPUB | 1263 KB
In this groundbreaking book, Sandra E. Greene explores the lives of three prominent West African slave owners during the age of abolition. These first-published biographies reveal personal and political accomplishments and concerns, economic interests, religious beliefs, and responses to colonial rule in an attempt to understand why the subjects reacted to the demise of slavery as they did. Greene emphasizes the notion that the decisions made by these individuals were deeply influenced by their personalities, desires to protect their economic and social status, and their insecurities and sympathies for wives, friends, and other associates. Knowing why these individuals and so many others in West Africa made the decisions they did, Greene contends, is critical to understanding how and why the institution of indigenous slavery continues to influence social relations in West Africa to this day.

Singapore from Temasek to the 21st Century Reinventing the Global City
Free Download Singapore from Temasek to the 21st Century: Reinventing the Global City By Karl Hack (editor), Jean-Louis Margolin (editor), Karine Delaye (editor)
2010 | 472 Pages | ISBN: 9971695154 | PDF | 50 MB
In this volume, a group of international scholars examines the history of Singapore as a series of discontinuous and varied attempts by a shifting array of local and foreign elites to optimize advantages arising from the island's strategic location and overcome its lack of natural resources. Part I sets the scene by considering different ways of looking at the island's long-term history and evaluating Singapore as a global city. Part II provides a series of snapshots of Singapore between 14th and 21st centuries, positioning the island as a major node in regional and world history, and evaluating the local political and social structures that have underpinned the city's ability to function as a major urban centre and ensured its long-term survival.
