Lordship in four realms The Lacy family, 1166-1241
Free Download Colin Veach, "Lordship in four realms: The Lacy family, 1166-1241 "
English | ISBN: 1784991171 | 2015 | 320 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
This book examines the rise and fall of the aristocratic Lacy family in England, Ireland, Wales and Normandy. This involves a unique analysis of medieval lordship in action, as well as a re-imagining of the role of English kingship in the western British Isles and a rewriting of seventy-five years of Anglo-Irish history. By viewing the political landscape of Britain and Ireland from the perspective of one aristocratic family, this book produces one of the first truly transnational studies of individual medieval aristocrats. This results in an in-depth investigation of aristocratic and English royal power over five reigns, including during the tumultuous period of King John and Magna Carta. By investigating how the Lacys sought to rule their lands in four distinct realms, this book also makes a major contribution to current debates on lordship and the foundations of medieval European society.

Lord Cornwallis Is Dead The Struggle for Democracy in the United States and India
Free Download Nico Slate, "Lord Cornwallis Is Dead: The Struggle for Democracy in the United States and India"
English | ISBN: 0674983440 | 2019 | 384 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Do democratic states bring about greater social and economic equality among their citizens? Modern India embraced universal suffrage from the moment it was free of British imperial rule in 1947―a historical rarity in the West―and yet Indian citizens are far from realizing equality today. The United States, the first British colony to gain independence, continues to struggle with intolerance and the consequences of growing inequality in the twenty-first century.

Loops in Group Theory and Lie Theory
Free Download Karl Strambach, "Loops in Group Theory and Lie Theory "
English | ISBN: 3110170108 | 2011 | 376 pages | PDF | 13 MB
In this book the theory of binary systems is considered as a part of group theory and, in particular, within the framework of Lie groups. The novelty is the consequent treatment of topological and differentiable loops as topological and differentiable sections in Lie groups. The interplay of methods and tools from group theory, differential geometry and topology, symmetric spaces, topological geometry, and the theory of foliations is what gives a special flavour to the results presented in this book. It is the first monograph devoted to the study of global loops. So far books on differentiable loops deal with local loops only. This theory can only be used partially for the theory of global loops since non-associative local structures have, in general, no global forms. The text is addressed to researchers in non-associative algebra and foundations of geometry. It should prove enlightening to a broad range of readers, including mathematicians working in group theory, the theory of Lie groups, in differential and topological geometry, and in algebraic groups. The authors have produced a text that is suitable not only for a graduate course, but also for selfstudy in the subjectby interested graduate students. Moreover, the material presented can be used for lectures and seminars in algebra, topological algebra and geometry.

London and the Making of Provincial Literature Aesthetics and the Transatlantic Book Trade, 18-185
Free Download Joseph Rezek, "London and the Making of Provincial Literature: Aesthetics and the Transatlantic Book Trade, 18-185 "
English | ISBN: 0812247345 | 2015 | 296 pages | PDF | 5 MB
In the early nineteenth century, London publishers dominated the transatlantic book trade. No one felt this more keenly than authors from Ireland, Scotland, and the United States who struggled to establish their own national literary traditions while publishing in the English metropolis. Authors such as Maria Edgeworth, Sydney Owenson, Walter Scott, Washington Irving, and James Fenimore Cooper devised a range of strategies to transcend the national rivalries of the literary field. By writing prefaces and footnotes addressed to a foreign audience, revising texts specifically for London markets, and celebrating national particularity, provincial authors appealed to English readers with idealistic stories of cross-cultural communion. From within the messy and uneven marketplace for books, Joseph Rezek argues, provincial authors sought to exalt and purify literary exchange. In so doing, they helped shape the Romantic-era belief that literature inhabits an autonomous sphere in society.

In 1991, the Israeli government introduced emergency legislation canceling the general exit permit that allowed Palestinians to enter Israel. The directive, effective for one year, has been reissued annually ever since, turning the Occupied Territories into a closed military zone. Today, Israel's permit regime for Palestinians is one of the world's most extreme and complex apparatuses for population management. Yael Berda worked as a human rights lawyer in Jerusalem and represented more than two hundred Palestinian clients trying to obtain labor permits to enter Israel from the West Bank. With

BRIXMIS (The British Commander-in-Chief's Mission to the Group Soviet Forces of Occupation in Germany) is one of the most little-known and covert elite units of the British Army. They were dropped in behind 'enemy lines' ten months after the Second World War had ended and remained operating their intelligence-gathering missions until the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989. During this period Berlin was a hotbed of spying between East and West. BRIXMIS was established as a legitimate channel of communication between the Red Army and the British Army on the Rhine, they were trusted by the Russians. Its 'clean status' made BRIXMIS a key part of the Cold War. However, their missions were covert and they acted behind the shadows to steal advanced Soviet equipment and penetrate top-secret training areas. This unique history of this most elite of units offers a new understanding of the British role in the Cold War. The Rules of Touring Rule One - There are no rules. Rule Two - Think sneaky 'cos sneaky's best. Rule Three - Beware the wandering Sov, 'cos he's the one that's going to f*** you. Rule Four - Write it down now. You'll forget it later. Rule Five - The truth is a very powerful weapon. There is nowhere to go from the truth.

Critical studies of the graphic novel have often employed methodologies taken from film theory and art criticism. Yet, as graphic novels from Maus to Watchmen have entered the literary canon, perhaps the time has come to develop theories for interpreting and evaluating graphic novels that are drawn from classic models of literary theory and criticism.
