The Emergence of Civilisation Revisited
Free Download The Emergence of Civilisation Revisited By John C. Barrett; Paul Halstead
2004 | 274 Pages | ISBN: 1842171666 | PDF | 7 MB
The history of archaeology is a history of great discoveries and a history of the debate about the human condition. It is a history of how we understand and link to our history, and it is unsurprising then that archaeology changes over time, bringing new perspectives to our view of the past. Thirty years on from Colin Renfrew's landmark publication, The Emergence of Civilisation, a group of Aegean prehistorians came together as part of the Sheffield Centre for Aegean Archaeology's Round Table discussions to acknowledge this ground-breaking work and to bring the subject up to date. They focus on the themes that Renfrew brought to archaeology through this work, and which continue to be of significance today: the way we characterise the context and the nature of change; the methodological procedures that should be followed; and the interpretation of the dynamics of past societies. Fourteen papers from the discussions, including contributions from John Cherry, Todd Whitelaw and Renfrew himself, examine a fascinating and diverse section of topics including; settlement, leadership and social status.

The Elusive Human Subject A Psychoanalytical Theory of Subject Relations
Free Download The Elusive Human Subject: A Psychoanalytical Theory of Subject Relations By Roger Kennedy
1998 | 220 Pages | ISBN: 1853433969 | PDF | 18 MB
Through a detailed examination of a whole range of theoretical ideas and the use of clinical illustrations, the author shows the way in which the subjective organization both arises and is impaired; how unity is maintained but also undermined. The essential role of social structive in the subjective organization is discussed, and comparisons made with object relations theory. Finally, detailed consideration is given to the role of the psychoanalyst's subjectivity and of the human element in psychoanalysis. In this book, in which Roger Kennedy has marshalled theory and ideas from psychoanalysis, philosophy and the social sciences, he succeeds in a major re-evaluation of how we describe the Self, and what that means for psychoanalysis.

The Edinburgh Companion to Vegan Literary Studies
Free Download Laura Wright, "The Edinburgh Companion to Vegan Literary Studies "
English | ISBN: 1474493319 | 2022 | 392 pages | PDF | 6 MB
Vegan literary studies has been crystallised over the past few years as a dynamic new specialism, with a transhistorical and transnational scope that both nuances and expands literary history and provides new tools and paradigms through which to approach literary analysis. Vegan studies has emerged alongside the 'animal turn' in the humanities. However, while veganism is often considered as a facet of animal studies, broadly conceived, it is also a distinct entity, an ethical delineator that for many scholars marks a complicated boundary between theoretical pursuit and lived experience.

The Earliest Economic Growth in World History Proceedings of the Berlin Workshop
Free Download David A. Warburton, "The Earliest Economic Growth in World History: Proceedings of the Berlin Workshop "
English | ISBN: 9042948124 | 2022 | 308 pages | PDF | 3 MB
Most of today's approaches to growth are expressed in terms related to goods, innovations, savings, technology, etc., and all are related to modern thought and recent historical developments. From the standpoint of technology and production, the economic historian Robert C. Allen has demonstrated that the route to the economies of the 20th century AD was determined by what happened in Britain in the 18th and 19th centuries AD. In this sense, one can point out that the context of the Industrial Revolution dominates thought about economic growth. By contrast, from the standpoint of finance, it can be suggested that the route to the 21st century AD began in Mesopotamia in the fifth millennium BC. The issue of the difference stands at the centre of what causes economic growth - and that is the principle concern of the discussions in this volume, the outcome of the workshop Economic Growth in Antiquity, held in Berlin in 2016.

The Discovery of Mankind Atlantic Encounters in the Age of Columbus
Free Download David Abulafia, "The Discovery of Mankind: Atlantic Encounters in the Age of Columbus"
English | 2008 | pages: 407 | ISBN: 0300125828, 0300158211 | PDF | 3,6 mb
The first landings in the Atlantic World generated striking and terrifying impressions of unknown peoples who were entirely foreign to anything in European explorers experience. From the first recorded encounters with the native inhabitants of the Canary Islands in 1341 to Columbus's explorations in 1492 and Cabral's discovery of Brazil in 1500, western Europeans struggled to make sense of the existence of the peoples they met. Were they Adam's children, of a common lineage with the peoples of the Old World, or were they a separate creation, the monstrous races of medieval legend? Should they govern themselves? Did they have the right to be free? Did they know God? Could they know God?
