E.B. White on Dogs
Free Download Martha White, "E.B. White on Dogs"
English | ISBN: 0884483428 | 2016 | 208 pages | EPUB | 3 MB
E. B. White (1899-1985) is best known for his children's books, Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, and The Trumpet of the Swan. Columnist for The New Yorker for over half a century and co-author of Strunk and White's The Elements of Style, White hit his stride as an American literary icon when he began publishing his "One Man's Meat" columns from his saltwater farm on the coast of Maine. In E. B. White on Dogs, his granddaughter and manager of his literary estate, Martha White, has compiled the best and funniest of his essays, poems, letters, and sketches depicting over a dozen of White's various canine companions. Featured here are favorite essays such as "Two Letters, Both Open," where White takes on the Internal Revenue Service, and also "Bedfellows," with its "fraudulent reports" from White's ignoble old dachshund, Fred. ("I just saw an eagle go by. It was carrying a baby.") From The New Yorker's "Talk of the Town" are some little-known "Notes and Comment" pieces covering dog shows, sled dog races, and the trials and tribulations of city canines, chief among them a Scottie called Daisy who was kicked out of Schrafft's, arrested, and later run down by a Yellow Cab, prompting The New Yorker to run her "Obituary." Some previously unpublished photographs from the E. B. White estate show over a dozen of the family dogs, from the first collie, to various labs, Scotties, dachshunds, terriers, half-breeds, and mutts, all well-loved. This is a book for readers and writers who recognize a good sentence and a masterful turn of a phrase; for E. B. White fans looking for more from their favorite author; and for dog lovers who may not have discovered the wit, style, and compassion of this most distinguished of American essayists.

Doug Buffone Monster of the Midway My 50 Years with the Chicago Bears
Free Download Doug Buffone, "Doug Buffone: Monster of the Midway: My 50 Years with the Chicago Bears"
English | ISBN: 162937167X | 2015 | 272 pages | EPUB | 16 MB
Few athletes become as synonymous with their town as Doug Buffone was with Chicago. Though he came from the hard hills of Pennsylvania, he came to embody everything Chicagoans love. Doug was taken too young, passing away suddenly on April 20, 2015, shortly after finishing this book with famed sportscaster Chet Coppock. Doug's was a life well-lived-he was tough enough for Papa Bear George Halas and never afraid to speak his mind. Doug Buffone lived life his way and pulled no punches. He grew up in Yatesboro, Pennsylvania, and found his way to the Chicago Bears by way of the Louisville Cardinals. And even though he played with Hall of Famers like Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers, Doug never experienced championships as he battled through the brutal NFL of the 1970s. But in many ways it was after his career that Doug achieved greatness, because that's when the radio introduced us to the fiery, hilarious "Uncle Doug" that we all came to love. He felt each Bears win and loss with to-the-bone passion. He lived his life fully and in his book you will find unbelievable stories of celebrities and superstars, of fights and camaraderie and crazy nights, of a man who lived his life his way.

Do the Right Thing (BFI Film Classics), 2nd Edition
Free Download Do the Right Thing (BFI Film Classics), 2nd Edition by Ed Guerrero
English | May 28, 2020 | ISBN: 1838719881 | True EPUB | 104 pages | 10.2 MB
Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing (1989) is one of the most popular and celebrated examples of the African-American new black film wave. Set during the hottest day of a hot summer in New York City, the film's ensemble cast, including Lee himself, brilliantly play out the edgy negotiations and dramas of a racially and culturally diverse working-class Brooklyn neighborhood. Contrary to Hollywood's markedly cautious treatment of 'race' and its confinement to the South and the past, Do The Right Thing offers a nuanced portrayal of black urban life.

Divine Perfection and Human Potentiality The Trinitarian Anthropology of Hilary of Poitiers
Free Download Jarred A. Mercer, "Divine Perfection and Human Potentiality: The Trinitarian Anthropology of Hilary of Poitiers "
English | ISBN: 0190903538 | 2019 | 336 pages | PDF | 3 MB
The place of Hilary of Poitiers in the debates and developments of early Christianity is tenuous in contemporary scholarship. His invaluable historical position is unquestioned, but the coherence and significance of his own thought is less certain. In this book, Jarred A. Mercer makes a case for understanding Hilary not only as an important historical figure, but as a noteworthy and independent thinker.

Dismantling the Fantasy An Invitation to the Fullness of Life
Free Download Darryl Bailey, "Dismantling the Fantasy: An Invitation to the Fullness of Life"
English | 2010 | ISBN: 095630916X | EPUB | pages: 112 | 0.1 mb
If you move into the deepest teachings of any great spiritual tradition, at some point you must move beyond the tradition itself and any idea of enlightenment. What is it that remains when the spiritual path, and even enlightenment, is transcended? Dismantling the Fantasy is a consideration of the movement out of thought itself. This may sound extreme or even impossible, but again it is a simple consideration of your potential as a human being, and you can easily understand it from the life experience you already have.

Disease, Medicine and Empire Perspectives on Western Medicine and the Experience of European Expansion
Free Download Roy Macleod, "Disease, Medicine and Empire: Perspectives on Western Medicine and the Experience of European Expansion "
English | ISBN: 103223539X | 2022 | 350 pages | PDF | 24 MB
Originally published in 1988, the essays in this book focus primarily on colonial medicine in the British Empire but comparative material on the experience of France and Germany is also included. The authors show how medicine served as an instrument of empire, as well as constituting an imperializing cultural force in itself, reflecting in different contexts, the objectives of European expansion - whether to conquer, to occupy or to settle. With chapters from a distinguished array of social and medical historians, colonial medicine is examined in its topical, regional and professional diversity. Ranging from tropical to temperate regions, from 18th Century colonial America to 20th Century South Africa, this book is an important contribution to our understanding of the influence of European medicine on imperial history.
