Transnationalism From Below Comparative Urban & Community Research
Free Download Transnationalism From Below: Comparative Urban & Community Research By Michael Peter Smith, Luis Eduardo Guarnizo
1995 | 316 Pages | ISBN: 156000990X | PDF | 12 MB
Expansion of transnational capital and mass media to even the remotest of places has provoked a spate of discourse on transnationalism. A core theme hi this debate is the penetration of national cultures and political systems by global and local driving forces. The nation-state is seen as weakened by transnational capital, global media, and emergent supranational political institutions. It also faces the decentering local resistances of the informal economy, ethnic nationalism, and grass-roots activism. Transnationalism From Below brings together a rich combination of theoretical and grounded studies of transnational processes and practices, discussing both their positive and negative aspects. The editors examine the scope and limits of transnationalism. The volume is divided into four parts: "Theorizing Transnationalism"; "Transnational Economic and Political Agency"; "Constructing Transnational Localities"; and "Transnational Practices and Cultural Reinscription." Contriburtors include Andre C. Drainville, Josephine Smart, Alan Smart, Minna Nyberg S0rensen, George Fouron, Nina Glick Schiller, Luin Goldring, Sarah J. Mahler, Linda Miller Matthei, Louisa Schein, David A. Smith, and Robert C. Smith. Moving easily between micro and macro analyses, this book expands the boundaries of the current scholarship on transnationalism, locates new forms of transnational agency, and poses provocative questions that challenge prevailing interpretations of globalization. Transnationalism From Below is a pioneering collection that will make a significant addition to the libraries of anthropologists, sociologists, international relations specialists, urban planners, political scientists, and policymakers.

Tools of the Trade
Free Download Paul J. Sally, "Tools of the Trade"
English | ISBN: 0821846345 | 2008 | 193 pages | PDF | 31 MB
This book provides a transition from the formula-full aspects of the beginning study of college level mathematics to the rich and creative world of more advanced topics. It is designed to assist the student in mastering the techniques of analysis and proof that are required to do mathematics. Along with the standard material such as linear algebra, construction of the real numbers via Cauchy sequences, metric spaces and complete metric spaces, there are three projects at the end of each chapter that form an integral part of the text. These projects include a detailed discussion of topics such as group theory, convergence of infinite series, decimal expansions of real numbers, point set topology and topological groups. They are carefully designed to guide the student through the subject matter. Together with numerous exercises included in the book, these projects may be used as part of the regular classroom presentation, as self-study projects for students, or for Inquiry Based Learning activities presented by the students.

Tiffany
Free Download Charles De Kay, "Tiffany"
English | 2014 | pages: 252 | ISBN: 1780422326, ASIN: B00IODLN06 | PDF | 15,7 mb
A jeweler with an established reputation through the world, Louis Comfort Tiffany was the spearhead of the Art Nouveau movement in the United States. At a time and in a country in perpetual growth, Tiffany succeeded in elevating the decorative to the rank of fine art. Glass was the field of expertise of Tiffany's workshops. There they developed groundbreaking techniques of treatment which produced beautiful effects on glass. Following the examples of Gallé or Daum, Tiffany made the most of this material: playing with colors, opaqueness and transparency... However, his most famous success is his lamps in mosaic of glass, similar to the cathedral's stained glass window. Diving into this prism of colors, the author makes us dream again of the birth of this enduring company.

The Values of Public Service Media in the Internet Society
Free Download The Values of Public Service Media in the Internet Society By Miguel Túñez-López (editor), Francisco Campos-Freire (editor), Marta Rodríguez-Castro (editor)
2021 | 364 Pages | ISBN: 3030564657 | PDF | 5 MB
This book provides a global overview of the challenges and opportunities faced by Public Service Media (PSM) organizations, including the increasing power of digital platforms, changing consumption habits, and reforms on funding models. In order to survive in the new, transforming media ecosystem, PSM organizations need to retain their core values whilst also embracing new values stemming from society's increasingly complex communication needs and value systems. The contributions of 40 authors from three continents are grouped into three areas in which PSM organizations can create value: innovation, governance and relation to the market, and democratic reinforcement. The book illustrates how PSM can create value for different stakeholders, in different contexts, and through different methods. Contributing to a better understanding of the role of PSM in current media systems, PSM is shown as a key agent for the development of the public sphere and democratic societies.

English | April 6, 2013 | ISBN: 0199589534, 0198779372 | True EPUB/PDF | 912 pages | 10.6/17.6 MB
In 2008 for the first time the majority of the planet's inhabitants lived in cities and towns. Becoming globally urban has been one of mankind's greatest collective achievements over time, and raises many questions. How did global city systems evolve and interact in the past? How have historic urban patterns impacted on those of the contemporary world? And what were the key drivers in the roller-coaster of urban change over the millennia - market forces such as trade and industry, rulers and governments, competition and collaboration between cities, or the urban environment and demographic forces? This pioneering comparative work by leading scholars drawn from a range of disciplines offers the first detailed comparative study of urban development from ancient times to the present day.

The Nature of Ultralong C-C Bonds
Free Download The Nature of Ultralong C-C Bonds by Takuya Shimajiri
English | PDF,EPUB | 2023 | 91 Pages | ISBN : 9819906695 | 29.1 MB
This book focuses on the creation and demonstration of a carbon-carbon (C-C) single bond beyond 1.8 Å and on elucidation of its unique nature. C-C single bond is one of the most fundamental concepts in organic chemistry. The elucidation of its nature is important for further understanding chemical phenomena. The nature in the extreme state of C-C single bond is still unexplored because of the instability of compounds. In terms of its bond length, the limit had been predicted around 1.8 Å based on the experimental and theoretical studies. This book describes a first example of a C-C single bond beyond 1.8 Å by employing the original intramolecular core-shell strategy to make a weak and elongated bond stable enough. The presence of such an elongated bond was demonstrated by experimental and theoretical studies. The bond length changes could affect physical properties such as optical absorption and redox potential. Furthermore, its unique "flexibility" was discovered. This book benefits the chemists with deeper understanding of the covalent bonding.
