Benefits of Silicon in the Nutrition of Plants
Free Download Benefits of Silicon in the Nutrition of Plants
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031266722 | 715 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 45 MB
This book aims to describe the role of silicon in the environment from the biogeochemical cycle of terrestrial ecosystems, uptake to cellular and tissue bioaccumulation and its effects in mitigating abiotic and biotic stresses. From an agronomic point of view, this knowledge is essential to boost agricultural production and improve its quality and the sustainability of crops in the face of the growing pressure of different stresses on crop systems of different natures. Si is the only multi-stress mitigator in plant nutrition. It plays an important role in mitigating nutritional deficiency by increasing nutrient use efficiency, something that will be very important in the future: producing more with less nutrient accumulated in the plant. The book focuses on the effects of Si on plant mineral nutrition, exploring nutritional deficiencies and toxicity of Al and potentially toxic heavy metals such as Cd, as well as important stresses such as salinity, water deficit and high temperature. The book will also discuss the Si extractors in the soil and criteria for recommending Si in crops and the sources of the element for its application in soil and leaves, as well as the role of Si in the activity of microorganisms and in plant diseases and pests. Beethoven's Diabelli Variations
Free Download Beethoven's Diabelli Variations By William Kinderman
2008 | 252 Pages | ISBN: 0195342364 | PDF | 11 MB
The Thirty-three Variations on a Waltz by Diabelli, Op. 120, represent Beethoven's most extraordinary achievement in the art of variation-writing. In their originality and power of invention, they stand beside other late Beethoven masterpieces such as the Ninth Symphony, the Missa Solemnis, and the last quartets. William Kinderman's study of the compositional history of the work includes the first extended investigation and reconstruction of the sketches and drafts, and reveals, contrary to earlier views of its chronology, that it was actually begun in 1819, then put aside, and completed in 1822-3. Kinderman also provides an analytical discussion of the complete work, and he demonstrates how insights derived from a close study of the sketches can illuminate Beethoven's compositional ideas and attitudes and contribute substantially to a better understanding of this massive and complex set of variations. The book includes complete transcriptions of the two central documents in the genesis of the Diabelli variations - the reconstructed Wittgenstein Sketchbook and the Paris - Landsberg - Montauban Draft.

Basic and Translational Applications of the Network Theory for Dystonia
Free Download Basic and Translational Applications of the Network Theory for Dystonia
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031262190 | 472 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 29 MB
A recently proposed novel scheme of dystonia suggests that it is a disorder of neural network. Impairment in any of the "nodes" of the network may result in deficient network activity, causing dystonia. This book aims to present various experimental evidence supporting the network theory of dystonia. Dystonia is the abnormal twisting and turning of the organ and associated involuntary oscillations. Although dystonia is less common than Parkinson's disease, traumatic brain injury, or stroke, each of these common disorders present with dystonia. Information regarding the brain regions that may be involved in dystonia is surprisingly limited and often conflicting. With chapters written by subject matter experts, this is a unique title that focuses on dystonia as a network disorder. This book would be of interest to basic and clinical researchers with an interest in motor systems and movement disorders.

Ascent to the Beautiful Plato the Teacher and the Pre-Republic Dialogues from Protagoras to Symposium
Free Download Ascent to the Beautiful: Plato the Teacher and the Pre-Republic Dialogues from Protagoras to Symposium By William H. F. Altman
2021 | 618 Pages | ISBN: 1793615950 | PDF | 6 MB
With Ascent to the Beautiful, William H. F. Altman completes his five-volume reconstruction of the Reading Order of the Platonic dialogues. This book covers Plato's elementary dialogues, grappling from the start with F. D. E. Schleiermacher, who created an enduring prejudice against the works Plato wrote for beginners. Recognized in antiquity as the place to begin, Alcibiades Major was banished from the canon but it was not alone: with the exception of Protagoras and Symposium, Schleiermacher rejected as inauthentic all seven of the dialogues this book places between them. In order to prove their authenticity, Altman illuminates their interconnections and shows how each prepares the student to move beyond self-interest to gallantry, and thus from the doctrinal intellectualism Aristotle found in Protagoras to the emergence of philosophy as intermediate between wisdom and ignorance in Symposium, en route to Diotima's ascent to the transcendent Beautiful. Based on the hypothesis that it was his own eminently teachable dialogues that Plato taught-and bequeathed to posterity as his Academy's eternal curriculum-Ascent to the Beautiful helps the reader to imagine the Academy as a school and to find in Plato the brilliant teacher who built on Homer, Thucydides, and Xenophon.
