Tracing Technology Forty Years of Archaeological Research at Satricum
Free Download Marijke Gnade, "Tracing Technology: Forty Years of Archaeological Research at Satricum "
English | ISBN: 9042946644 | 2021 | 266 pages | PDF | 121 MB
With the resumption of archaeological investigations at Satricum (Borgo LeFerriere, Latium), in 1977, a broad array of themes, methodologies and analytical approaches have been pursued. A common thread is technology, which encompasses all social, economic and cultural aspects of human agency. Artefacts, built structures and even landscapes shaped by people prompt technical description and analysis while at the same time testifying to technological knowledge and know how in ancient communities. The prolonged research history of Satricum itself, furthermore, nicely epitomizes the development of archaeology as a discipline over almost half a century. The papers in the present volume address technology as a cultural phenomenon embedded in specific worldviews, social practices and human agency. At the same time, they underline the contribution of this subject to understanding technical events and choices in their social and cultural contexts. The contributions touch upon four themes: landscape, building practices, artefacts production, and modern visualisation techniques. Each represents a different angle through which technology might be addressed. The geographical context is broader Central Italy between the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic regions. Chronologically, they cover the Bronze Age to the late Republican period. In all sections, Satricum was chosen to serve as either focus or point of departure.

Theology in History The Light of Christ, Disputed Questions and Resistance to Nazism
Free Download Theology in History: The Light of Christ, Disputed Questions and Resistance to Nazism By Henri de Lubac
1996 | 625 Pages | ISBN: 0898704723 | EPUB | 1 MB
The unique insight and impressive scholarship of the eminent French theologian Cardinal Henri de Lubac are clearly evident in this volume of collected articles and essays. An article of great timeliness on the priesthood according to St. John Chrysostom as well as an important study of the long debate over the salvation of Origen are among the texts included in the first section, devoted to patristics and Christian humanism. The second section, comprised entirely of an unpublished work on tripartite anthropology tracing the body-soul-spirit distinction from St. Paul, the patristic tradition, St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, up to the modern period, will prove an invaluable guide for further study and reflection. The section concludes with a beautiful text entitled "The Light of Christ", a prayerful meditation written during the dark hours of Nazi domination. Section three deals with disputed theological questions such as the internal causes of the disappearance of the sense of the sacred, the mystery of the supernatural, and the development of dogma. He also has a section on Christian resistance to Nazism and anti-semitism, as well as two sections on the thought and writings of several important modern spiritual writers.

The Victory of Christ
Free Download The Victory of Christ By Anscar Vonier
2013 | 156 Pages | ISBN: 0615900348 | EPUB | 1 MB
Dom Anscar Vonier, Abbot of Buckfast, was among England's greatest homilists and theologians of the early twentieth century. His works include "A Key to the Doctrine of the Eucharist" and "The Spirit and the Bride." In this final book of his Christological Trilogy, Abbot Vonier gives an inspiring account of Christ's triumph over death and its centrality to the life of the Church. Through a close study of the New Testament, Vonier unfolds how the truth of Christ as Victor informs the Church's liturgy and aposotolic mission, giving to all Christian spirits the means of understanding and confronting the presence of evil in the world. Vonier writes, "The Catholic Church then, must at all times be viewed in the light of Christ's victory; it is her very life to believe in that victory, to feed on it, to glorify it through the Spirit that is in her. Any diminution of her faith in Christ's victory would be a death-blow to her; for she is not living on an edifying memory, but she fights for the King of Glory whom the heavens have received." Praise for "The Victory of Christ": "The Victory of Christ is a literary mosaic portraying the meaning of the eternal triumph of the Redeemer as seen from various points of view and as it should be imprinted as a reality on the mind of the faithful." -Dom Bernard Moss, in "The Downside Review" "The gripping reality of Christ's victory cannot be set forth in few words, nor can it be understood by the unbeliever. But the sincere Christian who reads this book once, and perhaps again, will be rewarded and comforted by a clear realization of the truth which the Christian ages celebrate as the Victory of Christ." -Orate Fratres
