Labour and Development in East Asia Social Forces and Passive Revolution
Free Download Kevin Gray, "Labour and Development in East Asia: Social Forces and Passive Revolution"
English | 2014 | ISBN: 0415681855, 0415681847 | EPUB | pages: 186 | 1.3 mb
The Chinese Communist Party's response to the wave of factory strikes in the early summer of 2010 has raised important questions about the role that labour plays in the transformation of world orders. In contrast to previous policies of repression towards labour unrest, these recent disputes centring round wages and working conditions have been met with a more permissive response on the part of the state, as the CCP ostensibly seeks to facilitate a transition away from a model of political economy based on 'low-road' labour relations and export dependence.

Labeling People French Scholars on Society, Race, and Empire, 1815–1848
Free Download Labeling People: French Scholars on Society, Race, and Empire, 1815-1848 by Martin S. Staum
English | August 20, 2003 | ISBN: 9780773525801 | 264 pages | PDF | 15 Mb
Nineteenth-century French scholars, during a turbulent era of revolution and industrialization, ranked intelligence and character according to facial profile, skin colour, and head shape. They believed that such indicators could determine whether individuals were educable and peoples perfectible. In "Labeling People", Martin Staum examines the Paris societies of phrenology (reading intelligence and character by head shapes), geography, and ethnology and their techniques for classifying people. He shows how the work of these social scientists gave credence to the arrangement of 'races' in a hierarchy, the domination of non-European peoples, and the limitation of opportunities for ill-favoured individuals within France. While previous studies have contrasted the relative optimism of middle-class social scientists before 1848 with a later period of concern for national decline and racial degeneration, Staum demonstrates that the earlier learned societies were also fearful of turmoil at home and interested in adventure abroad. Both geographers and ethnologists created concepts of fundamental 'racial' inequality that prefigured the imperialist 'associationist' discourse of the Third Republic, believing that European tutelage would guide 'civilizable' peoples, and providing an open invitation to dominate and exploit the 'uncivilizable'.

Kubernetes Programming with Go Programming Kubernetes Clients and Operators Using Go and the Kubernetes API
Free Download Kubernetes Programming with Go: Programming Kubernetes Clients and Operators Using Go and the Kubernetes API by Philippe Martin
English | December 25, 2022 | ISBN: 1484290259 | 336 pages | MOBI | 2.56 Mb
This book begins by introducing the structure of the Kubernetes API and which operations it serves. Following chapters demonstrate how to write native Kubernetes resources definitions using Go structures defined in the API and API Machinery libraries. Miscellaneous utilities are described to help you work with different resource fields and to convert your resource definitions to or from YAML or JSON. Next, you will learn how to interact with the Kubernetes API server to create, delete, update, and monitor resources in a cluster using the client-go library. A complete chapter is devoted to tools provided to test your programs using the client-go library. An example follows to wrap up the first part of the book, describing how to write a kubectl plugin. Next, you will learn how to extend the Kubernetes API using Custom Resource Definitions, and how to write Kubernetes resources in a generic way as well as how to create your own resources using the unstructured concept. The next chapters delve into the controller-runtime library, useful for extending Kubernetes by writing operators, and the kubebuilder framework, which leverages this library, to help you start writing operators in minutes.

Japan's Modern Myths Ideology in the Late Meiji Period
Free Download Carol Gluck, "Japan's Modern Myths: Ideology in the Late Meiji Period "
English | ISBN: 0691054495 | | 424 pages | PDF | 29 MB
Ideology played a momentous role in modern Japanese history. Not only did the elite of imperial Japan (1890-1945) work hard to influence the people to "yield as the grasses before the wind," but historians of modern Japan later identified these efforts as one of the underlying pathologies of World War II. Available for the first time in paperback, this study examines how this ideology evolved. Carol Gluck argues that the process of formulating and communicating new national values was less consistent than is usually supposed. By immersing the reader in the talk and thought of the late Meiji period, Professor Gluck recreates the diversity of ideological discourse experienced by Japanese of the time. The result is a new interpretation of the views of politics and the nation in imperial Japan.

Immigrants on the Threshold
Free Download Judith T. Shuval, "Immigrants on the Threshold"
English | 2006 | ISBN: 1412805759, 1138525774 | EPUB | pages: 268 | 5.1 mb
This first large-scale empirical work on the adjustment problems of immigrants in Israel is now updated with a new introduction by the author and a preface by Alex Weingrod. The extraordinary phenomenon of worldwide immigration to Israel has made this searching study of people in transit possible. "Immigrants on the Threshold" reports on the attitudes and behaviors of almost 2,000 people from twenty countries during their first year in Israel during the early years of mass migration. It is of particular interest as the phenomenon of integration becomes an issue for concern in many other parts of the world. "Immigrants on the Threshold" by Judith Shuval presents a theoretical framework closely intermeshed with rich empirical findings. No other work in this field approaches this study in either depth of theoretical analysis or in design and execution of data collection performed by conducting in-depth interviews and then using statistical analysis to quantify results in exacting and objective detail. It attempts to answer a number of critical questions: What factors in the immigrants' past and present condition their responses to the strain of transit? What is the role of commitment to the goal of the new society into which they must incorporate? What is the role of different social and economic backgrounds in determining patterns of acculturation? What factors affect the aspirations and mobility patterns of immigrants? The answers to these questions - the hypotheses formulated and the conclusions reached in "Immigrants on the Threshold" - contribute substantially to the fields of both sociology and social psychology. These answers, and the methods used to reach them, should be of interest to anyone in these fields and the field of applied social research, as well as those interested in Israel and questions of immigrant integration.

I, Light Bulb with Bonus eBook
Free Download Michael Patrick Leahy, Howard M. Brandston, "I, Light Bulb with Bonus eBook"
English | 2011 | ASIN: B00526ZKKW | EPUB | pages: 47 | 1.6 mb
New from Broadside Books' Voices of the Tea Party. I, Light Bulb: A Death Row Testimonial as told to Michael Patrick Leahy, demonstrates how the American economy has gone from free markets to politically correct, government controlled crony capitalism in the half century since Leonard E. Read wrote the classic essay I, Pencil. Leahy tells the story of the ban on the current generation of incandescents from the perspective of a condemned 100 watt light bulb. In the voice of the light bulb, Leahy points out the need for political activism to reverse this ban, arguing that it not onlyprevents an innocent incandescent light bulb from continuing a useful economic life, it also deprives every American of their own economic liberty and freedom of choice.
