Time and the Earth's Rotation
Free Download Time and the Earth's Rotation by Dennis D. McCarthy, John D. H. Pilkington
English | PDF | 1979 | 328 Pages | ISBN : 9027708924 | 12.7 MB
IAU Symposium No. 82, "Time and the Earth's Rotation", met to discuss modern research in the field of the rotation of the Earth with particu lar emphasis on the role of new observational techniques in this work. The use of these techniques has prompted a new look at the definitions of the traditional reference systems and the concepts of the rotation of the Earth around its center of mass. Specific topics discussed were time, polar motion, reference systems, conventional radio interferometry, very'long baseline interferometry (VLBI), Doppler satellite methods, satellite laser ranging, lunar laser ranging, and geophysical research concerning the Earth's rotation. Improvement in the accuracy of the observations is a key to possible solutions of the many unsolved problems remaining in this field. It appears that such improvement, using both classical and new techniques, is forthcoming in the near future. This will surely contribute to a better understanding of some of the long-standing questions concerning the rotation of the Earth around its center of mass and lead to an improved knowledge of the rotating, deformable Earth. This volume contains the papers presented at IAU Symposium No. 82 as well as the discussions provoked by these papers. It is hoped that it captures the principal points of the meeting and that it will contribute not only to a better understanding of existing problems, but also to future research in time and the Earth's rotation.

Triple negative breast cancers (TNBC) are a biologically aggressiveform of breast cancer and constitute approximately 10-15% of all breast cancerpatients. Distant metastasis, lack of clinically targeted therapies andprognostic markers, makes the disease difficult to treat. Till now not muchwork has been carried out on this deadly disease. This book provides an overview of TNBC etiology, its treatmentstrategies and prognostic markers to identify the outcome of standard therapies.Signalling pathways namely cell proliferation, angiogenesis, invasion andmetastasis, apoptosis, autophagy and others involved in complicating thedisease have been described in the chapters to convey an understanding aboutthe disease mechanisms. All the possible drugs either in pre-clinical orclinical stages have also been mentioned with data that depicts their efficiencyin targeting altered genes. The book also introduces the reader to herbalmedicine exhibiting high potency to target TNBC, their synthetic analogs usedduring chemotherapy and their ability to fight against chemoresistance. Theconcept of phytonanotechnology has also been discussed. The book helps createawareness among a broad range of readers about TNBC. It points to prioritizingthe upgradation of health care facilities and re-designing future treatmentstrategies to provide maximum benefit to breast cancer patients.

The Wisdom Paradox How Your Mind Can Grow Stronger As Your Brain Grows Older
Free Download The Wisdom Paradox: How Your Mind Can Grow Stronger As Your Brain Grows Older By Elkhonon Goldberg
2006 | 337 Pages | ISBN: 1592401872 | EPUB | 37 MB
The Wisdom Paradox explores the aging of the mind from a unique, positive perspective. In an era of increasing fears about mental deterioration, world-renowned neuropsychologist Elkhonon Goldberg provides startling new evidence that though the brain diminishes in some tasks as it ages, it gains in many ways. Most notably, it increases in what he terms "wisdom": the ability to draw upon knowledge and experience gained over a lifetime to make quick and effective decisions. Goldberg delves into the machinery of the mind, separating memory into two distinct types: singular (knowledge of a particular incident or fact) and generic (recognition of broader patterns). As the brain ages, the ability to use singular memory declines, but generic memory is unaffected-and its importance grows. As an individual accumulates generic memory, the brain can increasingly rely upon these stored patterns to solve problems effortlessly and instantaneously. Goldberg investigates the neurobiology of wisdom, and draws on historical examples of artists and leaders whose greatest achievements were realized late in life.
