Free Download Angola: Struggle For Peace And Reconstruction By Inge Tvedten 1997 | 176 Pages | ISBN: 0813384893 | PDF | 31 MB In this accessible introduction, Inge Tvedten traces Angolas turbulent past, with a particular focus on the devastating impacts that five centuries of Portuguese colonial rule and over two decades of civil war have had on the Angolan people. He analyzes how Angolas resources were drained through slavery and exploitation, discusses the role Angola played as a staging ground in the Cold War, and investigates how attempts to democratize collapsed when the rebel movement UNITA took the country to war after electoral defeat. Tvedten concludes by looking at the prospects for this resource-rich country to build lasting peace and prosperity. After more than twenty years of devastating civil war, Angola is slowly moving toward peace and reconciliation. In this accessible introduction to one of the most resource-rich countries in Africa, Inge Tvedten traces Angolas turbulent past, with a particular focus on the impacts that political and economic upheaval have had on the Angolan people. First, Tvedten reviews five centuries of Portuguese colonial rule, which drained Angolas resources through slavery and exploitation. He then turns to the postindependence period, in which the country became a Cold War staging ground and its attempts to democratize collapsed when the rebel movement UNITA, supported by the United States, took the country back to war after electoral defeat. Tvedten shows how the colonial legacy and decades of war turned Angola into one of the ten poorest in the world, despite considerable oil resources, huge hydroelectric potential, vast and fertile agricultural lands, and some of Africas most productive fishing waters. Finally, Tvedten argues that peace and prosperity for Angola are possible but constructive international support will be crucial. Free Download Analog and Digital Signals and Systems by R. K. Rao Yarlagadda English | PDF (True) | 2010 | 556 Pages | ISBN : 1441900330 | 15.5 MB This book presents a systematic, comprehensive treatment of analog and discrete signal analysis and synthesis and an introduction to analog communication theory. This evolved from my 40 years of teaching at Oklahoma State University (OSU). It is based on three courses, Signal Analysis (a second semester junior level course), Active Filters (a first semester senior level course), and Digital signal processing (a second semester senior level course). I have taught these courses a number of times using this material along with existing texts. The references for the books and journals (over 160 references) are listed in the bibliography section. At the undergraduate level, most signal analysis courses do not require probability theory. Only, a very small portion of this topic is included here. I emphasized the basics in the book with simple mathematics and the soph- tication is minimal. Theorem-proof type of material is not emphasized. The book uses the following model: 1. Learn basics 2. Check the work using bench marks 3. Use software to see if the results are accurate The book provides detailed examples (over 400) with applications. A thr- number system is used consisting of chapter number - section number - example or problem number, thus allowing the student to quickly identify the related material in the appropriate section of the book. The book includes well over 400 homework problems. Problem numbers are identified using the above three-number system.
Free Download Simon Roffey, "An Archaeological History of Hermitages and Eremitic Communities in Medieval Britain and Beyond: In Search of Solitude " English | ISBN: 036711061X | 2023 | 204 pages | PDF | 23 MB Many hermitages and eremitic communities are recorded throughout the medieval period, yet to date, there has been no comprehensive archaeological study. This richly illustrated book will consequently discuss a range of hermitages and introduce the reader to their architectural forms, spaces, location and environments as well as the religious practices associated with them. It will focus primarily on the British material but will nonetheless consider this within a wider comparative framework. Overall, it will offer an archaeological history of hermitages and presents a unique window into a lost world of medieval spirituality and religious life. Key related themes will include the earliest archaeological evidence for hermits (eremitic life) in India, China and East Asia, pre- and early Christian desert hermitages, cave hermitages, eremitic communities, saints and missionary hermits, life and diet, medieval mysticism and the contemplative tradition, secular and ornamental hermitages and hermits in post-medieval and contemporary society. Free Download Katri Ratia, "Alternative Spirituality, Counterculture, and European Rainbow Gatherings " English | ISBN: 1032209445 | 2023 | 294 pages | PDF | 13 MB This book explores the phenomenon of Rainbow Gatherings in Europe. These countercultural events form radically alternative temporary societies in the peripheries of modern states and manage themselves without centralized power, market economy or institutionalized forms of religion. The volume offers a vivid description of life in the Gatherings, analyses the main ideological tenets and places the meetings in historical and cultural context. It considers how the Rainbow Gathering tradition is rooted in networks of alternative spirituality and environmental counterculture but also reflects broader shifts in religion and religiosity.

Free Download A Theory Of/Cloud/: Toward a History of Painting By Hubert Damisch 2002 | 329 Pages | ISBN: 0804734402 | PDF | 35 MB This is the first in a series of books in which one of the most influential of contemporary art theorists revised from within the conceptions underlying the history of art. The authors basic idea is that the rigor of linear perspective cannot encompass all of visual experience and that it could be said to generate an oppositional factor with which it interacts dialectically: the cloud. On a literal level, this could be represented by the absence of the sky, as in Brunelleschis legendary first experiments with panels using perspective. Or it could be the vaporous swathes that Correggio uses to mediate between the viewer on earth and the heavenly prospect in his frescoed domes at Parma. Insofar as the cloud is a semiotic operator, interacting with the linear order of perspective, it also becomes a dynamic agent facilitating the creation of new types of pictorial space. (Damisch puts the signifer cloud between slashes to indicate that he deals with clouds as signs instead of realistic elements.)This way of looking at the history of painting is especially fruitful for the Renaissance and Baroque periods, but it is also valuable for looking at such junctures as the nineteenth century. For example, Damisch invokes Ruskin and Turner, who carry out both in theory and in practice a revision of the conditions of appearances of the cloud as a landscape feature. Even for the twentieth century, he has illuminating things to say about how his reading of cloud applies to the painters Leger and Batthus. In short, Damisch achieves a brilliant and systematic demonstration of a concept of semiotic interaction that touches some of the most crucial features of the Western art tradition. |
