Participatory Democracy in Brazil Socioeconomic and Political Origins
Free Download J. Ricardo Tranjan, "Participatory Democracy in Brazil: Socioeconomic and Political Origins"
English | 2015 | ISBN: 0268042403 | EPUB | pages: 288 | 0.9 mb
The largely successful trajectory of participatory democracy in post-1988 Brazil is well documented, but much less is known about its origins in the 1970s and early 1980s. In Participatory Democracy in Brazil: Socioeconomic and Political Origins, J. Ricardo Tranjan recounts the creation of participatory democracy in Brazil. He positions the well-known Porto Alegre participatory budgeting at the end of three interrelated and partially overlapping processes: a series of incremental steps toward broader political participation taking place throughout the twentieth century; short-lived and only partially successful attempts to promote citizen participation in municipal administration in the 1970s; and setbacks restricting direct citizen participation in the 1980s. What emerges is a clearly delineated history of how socioeconomic contexts shaped Brazil's first participatory administrations.

Paper Stories – Paper and Book History in Early Modern Europe
Free Download Silvia Hufnagel, "Paper Stories - Paper and Book History in Early Modern Europe "
English | ISBN: 3111154912 | 2023 | 454 pages | EPUB, PDF | 196 MB + 10 MB
This peer-reviewed conference volume examines paper and material aspects of the written word in early modern Europe. The collection is designed around three thematic strands, based on the lifecycle of handwritten documents and manuscripts and printed books: first, production of paper, second production of books and manuscripts and third, trade and exchange, and ownership of manuscripts and books. By tracing the history of paper, books and collections through case studies of historically important objects, the authors identify agents and hotspots of production, trade and ownership from both centres and peripheries of Europe from the late Middle Ages until the beginning of industrialisation. They thereby address material aspects of documents, manuscripts and books, as well as object biography, from an interdisciplinary viewpoint. By doing so this volume provides insight into actual practices of the past and the material history of written texts.

Pakistan's Tactical Nuclear Weapons Giving the devil more than his due
Free Download Inderjit Panjrath, "Pakistan's Tactical Nuclear Weapons: Giving the devil more than his due?"
English | 2018 | ISBN: 9386457601 | EPUB | pages: 154 | 0.6 mb
Amidst many developments in the constantly evolving Indo-Pak conflict paradigm, the latest and perhaps the most intriguing has been the induction of Tactical Nuclear Weapons (TNWs) by Pakistan. While nuclear sabre rattling is not new to Pakistan's strategy, this time around there seems to be a strong pitch among security analysts to project these as the proverbial 'Brahmastra' in its possession, foreclosing any sort of military retaliatory strike by India. This is significant at a time when sporadic Pak sponsored terror attacks on Indian soil continue unabated. For the Indian security analysts this raises some pertinent questions.

Pakistan Our Difficult Neighbour and India's Islamic Dimensions
Free Download Brig (Retd) Darshan Khullar, "Pakistan Our Difficult Neighbour and India's Islamic Dimensions"
English | 2014 | ISBN: 9382652752, 9384464295 | EPUB | pages: 232 | 0.3 mb
In this remarkably candid book, the author has taken a hard look at Pakistan, in his words our difficult neighbour and analysed the reasons as to why the two countries have never been friends and probably will not be in the future, at least not in the immediate one. The author attributes India's failure to neutralise Pakistan to its kind of near constant Gandhian (passive) approach to India's security interests. The author believes that the future of Muslims in India is bright and that it would be quite a lusterless country without them. It is a matter of time before India has its first Muslim Prime Minister but this will happen when the latter represents interests of all Indians and not merely those of the Muslims. His study of Muslims is spread of a wide range of inter related perspectives.

Pakistan Before and After Osama
Free Download Imtiaz Gul, "Pakistan: Before and After Osama"
English | 2012 | ISBN: 8174369090 | EPUB | pages: 312 | 0.8 mb
Explicating the pre- and post-Bin Laden Pakistan, Imtiaz Gul relooks at questions plaguing the nation: Why and how this country became home to the worlds most wanted terrorist? Bin Ladens escape from the Tora Bora Mountains in Eastern Afghanistan in December 2001 to his last hideout in Abbottabad, and to find answers to the dozens of questions surrounding his stay in Pakistan as well as the US blitz raid in the wee hours of 2 May 2011. Had the worlds most wanted person at all been living in Pakistan for all those years, how did he manage to stay undetected, together with his big family, including an eight-month-old son? Who from within the security establishment provided the safety network to the family? What stakes did the Pakistan Army and the ISI have at all if they were complicit in protecting him? Why did Bin Laden fascinate certain people and groups within Pakistan?
