Poetics of Redemption Dante s Divine Comedy
Free Download Andreas Kablitz, "Poetics of Redemption: Dante s Divine Comedy"
English | ISBN: 3110634090 | 2021 | 250 pages | PDF | 1300 KB
The essays on Dante collected in this volume interpret his Commedia as the attempt of a renewal of the Christian work of salvation by means of literature. In the view of his author, the sacro poema responds to a historical moment of extreme danger, in which nothing less than the redemption of mankind is at stake. The degradation of the medieval Roman Empire and the rise of an early capitalism in his birth town Florence, entailing a pernicious moral depravation for Dante, are to him nothing else but a variety of symptoms of the backfall of the world into its state prior to its salvation by the incarnation of Christ.

Poetic Theory and Practice in Early Modern Verse Unwritten Arts
Free Download Zenón Luis-Martínez, "Poetic Theory and Practice in Early Modern Verse: Unwritten Arts"
English | ISBN: 1399507826 | 2023 | 352 pages | PDF | 18 MB
How did ideas about the poet's art surface in early modern texts? By looking into the intersections between poetry, poetics and other discourses - logic, rhetoric, natural philosophy, medicine, mythography or religion - the essays in this volume unearth notions that remained largely unwritten in the official literary criticism of the period. Focusing on questions of poetry's origins and style, and exploring individual responses to issues of authenticity, career design, difficulty, or inspiration, this collection revisits and renews the critical lexicons that connect poetic theory and practice in early modern English texts and their European contexts. Reading canonical poets and critics - Sidney, Spenser, Marlowe, Shakespeare, Puttenham, Dryden - alongside less studied figures such as Henry Constable, Barnabe Barnes, Thomas Lodge, Aemilia Lanyer, Fulke Greville or George Chapman, this book extends the coordinates for a dialogue between literary practice and the Renaissance theories from which they stemmed and which they helped to outgrow.

Poetic Logic and the Origins of the Mathematical Imagination
Free Download Poetic Logic and the Origins of the Mathematical Imagination
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031315812 | 173 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 11 MB
This book treats eighteenth-century Italian philosopher Giambattista Vico's theory of poetic logic for the first time as the originating force in mathematics, transforming instinctive counting and spatial perception into poetic (metaphorical) symbolism that dovetails with the origin of language. It looks at current work on mathematical cognition (from Lakoff and Núñez to Butterworth, Dehaene, and beyond), matching it against the poetic logic paradigm. In a sense, it continues from where Kasner and Newman left off, connecting contemporary research on the mathematical mind to the idea that the products of early mathematics were virtually identical to the first forms of poetic language. As such, this book informs the current research on mathematical cognition from a different angle, by looking back at a still relatively unknown philosopher within mathematics.

Poetic Language and Religion in Greece and Rome
Free Download Poetic Language and Religion in Greece and Rome By Garcia, J Virgilio(Editor);Ruiz, Angel(Editor)
2013 | 345 Pages | ISBN: 1443852481 | PDF | 2 MB
This volume contains twenty-five contributions adapted from papers presented at the International Conference on Poetic Language and Religion in Greece and Rome, held at the University of Santiago de Compostela on 31tst May - 1st June 2012. The book fulfils two principal aims: to highlight the impulse and continuity of a research field that combines Indo-European and Classical Studies, which has generally been recognised for several decades as a very fruitful collaboration, and to provide the academic community with the current results of one of the most important topics of Classical Studies. The first part of the book focuses on the Indo-European tradition, tracking its remnants, particularly in the Classical languages. The Indo-European poetic tradition can be traced through linguistic reconstruction (formulae, onomastics) and some scattered mentions in literary texts. In the second part, the focus is placed on the poetic language in Greece and Rome. The rich and complex tradition of Classical literatures makes a clear-cut description of the inherited or innovative aspects of the religious and literary development more problematical. Ritual or cultic poetry, onomastics, phraseology, paeans and hymns, oracles as divine language, and magic all receive deep and thorough treatment from a reliable ensemble of scholars.

Free Download Edward Hirsch, "Poet's Choice"
English | 2006 | pages: 448 | ISBN: 0156032678, 015101356X | PDF | 8,6 mb
Edward Hirsch began writing a column in the Washington Post Book World called "Poet's Choice" in 2002. This book brings together those enormously popular columns, some of which have been revised and expanded, to present a minicourse in world poetry; Poet's Choice includes the work of more than 130 poets-from Asia and the Middle East to Europe and America, from ancient times to the present-and demonstrates how poetry responds to the challenges of our modern world. Rich, relevant, and inviting, the book reveals how poetry both puts us in touch with ourselves and connects us to each other.

Pluralism, Justice, and Equality
Free Download Pluralism, Justice, and Equality By Miller, David(Editor)
1995 | 320 Pages | ISBN: 019827937X | PDF | 17 MB
The essays in this book by a group of leading political theorists assess and develop the central ideas of Michael Walzer's path-breakingSpheres of Justice. Is social justice a radically plural notion, with its principles determined by the different social goods that men and women allocate to one another? Is it possible to prevent the unequal distribution of money and power from distorting the allocation of other goods? If different goods are distributed by different mechanisms, what (if any) kind of social equality is possible? Are there universal principles of jusstice which apply regardless of context? These and other related questions are pursued in depth by the contributors. The book concludes with an important new essay by Walzer in which he reflects on the positions taken in his original book in the light of the critical appraisals presented here.
