The Yiddish Theater Stage as a Temporary Home takes us through the fascinating life and career of the most important comic duo in Yiddish Theater, Shimen Dzigan and Isroel Shumacher. Spanning over the course of half a century from the beginning of their work at the Ararat avant-garde Yiddish theater in Lodz, Poland to their Warsaw theatre they produced bold, groundbreaking political satire. The book further discusses their wanderings through the Soviet Union during the Second World War and their attempt to revive Jewish culture in Poland after the Holocaust. It finally describes their time in Israel, first as guest performers and later as permanent residents. Despite the restrictions on Yiddish actors in Israel, the duo insisted on performing in their language and succeeded in translating the new Israeli reality into unique and timely satire. In the 1950s, they voiced a unique among the Hebrew stages political and cultural critique. Dzigan continued to perform on his own and with other Israeli artists until his death in 1980.

The Whiskey Barons
Free Download Allen Andrews, "The Whiskey Barons"
English | 2011 | ISBN: 1897784848 | EPUB | pages: 130 | 3.1 mb
The success of today's whisky industry was based largely on the commercial drive and foresight of a select group of whisky merchants who took the business world by storm in the late-18th and early-19th centuries. As the manufacture of blended whisky took off, the likes of Tommy Dewar, Thomas Buchanan, John Walker, Arthur Bell and Peter Mackie all established brands that have remained amongst the top-selling whiskies in the world. These men had much in common: they were all Scots from humble beginnings, served long apprenticeships and ultimately set out on their own to build their own companies. This is the story of how these Scots changed the face of the world of whisky for ever, and in doing so became incredibly wealthy. The industry that they took by the scruff of the neck has never looked back and many of the sales techniques and the business culture they created are still in place today.

The Way of Lovers The Oxford Anonymous Commentary on the Song of Songs
Free Download Sara Japhet, Barry Dov Walfish, "The Way of Lovers: The Oxford Anonymous Commentary on the Song of Songs"
English, Hebrew | 2017 | pages: 289 | ISBN: 9004343199 | PDF | 4,1 mb
This extraordinary commentary by a late twelfth-century anonymous northern French exegete interprets the Song of Songs solely according to its plain meaning as a story of two young lovers and their developing relationship. The exegete pays attention to every detail of the text, offering many enlightening insights into its meaning, all the while expanding upon the "way of lovers" - the ways that young people in love go about their lovemaking. The French background of the exegete is made clear by numerous references to knights, coats of arms, weapons, chivalry, and of course, wine drinking. The edition is accompanied by an English translation and extensive introduction which analyzes the various linguistic, literary, and exegetical features of the text.
