Free Download Emotional Alterity in the Medieval North Sea World by Erin Sebo, Matthew Firth, Daniel Anlezark English | PDF EPUB (True) | 291 Pages | ISBN : 3031339649 | 7 MB This book addresses a little-considered aspect of the study of the history of emotions in medieval literature: the depiction of perplexing emotional reactions. Medieval literature often confronts audiences with displays of emotion that are improbable, physiologically impossible, or simply unfathomable in modern social contexts. The intent of such episodes is not always clear; medieval texts rarely explain emotional responses or their motivations. The implication is that the meanings communicated by such emotional display were so obvious to their intended audience that no explanation was required. This raises the question of whether such meanings can be recovered. This is the task to which the contributors to this book have put themselves. In approaching this question, this book does not set out to be a collection of literary studies that treat portrayals of emotion as simple tropes or motifs, isolated within their corpora. Rather, it seeks to uncover how such manifestations of feeling may reflect cultural and social dynamics underlying vernacular literatures from across the medieval North Sea world.

Examining writing by Native Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, and gay and lesbian Americans after 1968, Cyrus R. K. Patell compares and historicizes what might be characterized as the minority literatures within "U.S. minority literature." Free Download Philip Katcher, Richard Hook, "Elite 94: American Civil War Commanders (4) Confederate Leaders in the West" English | 2003 | pages: 67 | ISBN: 1841763195 | PDF | 11,0 mb Osprey's study of the commanders of the American Civil War (1861-1865). In the Western theater of war the Confederacy had the misfortune to face, with inferior resources, some of the outstanding Union leaders early in their careers. The Southern commanders who faced Grant, Sherman and Sheridan in these campaigns were of varied backgrounds and talents: some had been sent West in disfavour, others were foolishly quarrelsome, and after A.S.Johnston's death at Shiloh there was no single figure with the authority to dominate them. Some were nevertheless of the highest class: men like Joseph E.Johnston, the cavalry leader Nathan Bedford Forrest, and the little known Patrick Cleburne and Alexander Stewart earned ungrudging respect. This book details the careers, personalities and appearance of 24 generals of the Army of Tennessee and the other Confederate commands in the West. Free Download Elements of Newtonian Mechanics: Including Nonlinear Dynamics by Jens M. Knudsen , Poul G. Hjorth English | PDF | 2000 | 460 Pages | ISBN : 354067652X | 41.5 MB In the third edition a number of minor misprints that appeared in the second edition have have been corrected. Furthermore, 17 new problems have been added, at the end of chapters 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, and 14. The answers to these 17 problems have not been listed in the 'Answers' section at the end of the book. This will permit the problems to be used as hand-in problems or perhaps in mid-term exams. JMK €9 PGH Copenhagen May 2000 Preface to the Second Edition In the second edition, a number of misprints that appeared in the first edition have been corrected. In addition to this, we have made improvements based on the experience gathered in the use of the first English edition of the book in the introductory course in physics at the University of Copenhagen. A chapter introducing nonlinear dynamics has been added. The purpose of this chapter is to provide supplementary reading for the students who are interested in this area of active research, where Newtonian mechanics plays an essential role. The students who wish to dig deeper, should consult texts dedicated to the study of nonlinear dynamical systems and chaos. The literature list at the end of this book contains several references for the topic. Free Download Elements of Multivariate Time Series Analysis by Gregory C. Reinsel English | PDF | 1993 | 278 Pages | ISBN : 1468402005 | 22.6 MB The use of methods of time series analysis in the study of multivariate time series has become of increased interest in recent years. Although the methods are rather well developed and understood for univarjate time series analysis, the situation is not so complete for the multivariate case. This book is designed to introduce the basic concepts and methods that are useful in the analysis and modeling of multivariate time series, with illustrations of these basic ideas. The development includes both traditional topics such as autocovariance and auto correlation matrices of stationary processes, properties of vector ARMA models, forecasting ARMA processes, least squares and maximum likelihood estimation techniques for vector AR and ARMA models, and model checking diagnostics for residuals, as well as topics of more recent interest for vector ARMA models such as reduced rank structure, structural indices, scalar component models, canonical correlation analyses for vector time series, multivariate unit-root models and cointegration structure, and state-space models and Kalman filtering techniques and applications. This book concentrates on the time-domain analysis of multivariate time series, and the important subject of spectral analysis is not considered here. For that topic, the reader is referred to the excellent books by Jenkins and Watts (1968), Hannan (1970), Priestley (1981), and others.
